So finally talking everyone advice and getting them replaced with 185/60/14 on i20 alloys (5.5J) XM1+.
I am going to pay 1000 more for each tyre. I hope it works this time.
SOS
Very weird indeed.

I'm pretty sure, offset of the alloys is the culprit here and i really doubt if upgrading to 185/60-14 would solve the issue.
Do check everything before shifting to 185/60-14.
Good luck

First u will have to find out which tire and where it is scrapping.

I think only one rear tire must be scrapping.

Yes i did got them replaced.
same 185/60/14 on the same 5.5 J i20 alloys.
they were quite smooth.
But since my front bumper was damaged i immediately gave it to Hyundai for job work.
will get the car on Monday evening.
Pics with final review will be out soon.
I am sure my episode will give final words for other member going for similar upgrades.

So finally my i10 is back on move with new shoes.
Let me tell you exactly.
I have got 4 i20 alloys and 1 swift rim (14 inches) 5.5 J --Cost 10k--BK Tyres Lajpat nagar New Delhi.
Got 175/65/R14 Michelin XM1+ 5 tires for 17K after reducing 2k for my old damaged tires.
after running for 3 days i realized that tires are scrapping at fast speed in case of a bad road. After lot of discussion in the thread and considering everyone's advice.I again got the tires replaced after 3 days .
New tires
185/60/R14 Michelin XM1+ they were comparatively expensive and end up paying 1k more for each tire after depreciating 250 rs for each tires for 3 day run.
Finally i payed --27000+4000=31000/-
I just drove From New Delhi to Agra 200 Km and results were really good.
1.Very Stable at high speed.
2.Not that bumpy on bad roads.
3.Comparatively a smoother drive.

Pics below.

Congrats! Looks really cool. From where did you source the i20 alloys ?

I have heard that Hyundai does not sell its parts outside.

Looks very, very neat indeed. I liked it. I would have preferred it in black though..

Probably someone must have exchanged his i20 alloys at a dealer.

@ para
Yes Cartman is right.
just like people like me have urge to move to 14 inches...
there are people with i20 with a urge for more....
i got these brand new i20 alloys since those guys had some connections with Hyundai.
So people must be coming directly to them after purchasing new car.
anyways thanks for comments.

Hey Shobhit ur ride looks pretty neat with new set of footwear. Keep it rollin' buddy

Personally I hate seeing Cars with Skinny feet. I am pretty sure many things have changed other than just the ride quality.

Hi,

I have seen that almost all people who want to move away from stock tyres also get alloys. I have a i10 which i would like to upsize to 175/65/R14. Is it possible to get steel rims instead of alloys when upsizing ? If yes what will each rim cost?

i10 has stock tires of 155/80/R13.

175/65/R14 would give you a 0.85% difference in circumference and appropriate speedo/odo error.

If you want to upsize, i would suggest 175/70/R13 (-0.52% diff) or 185/60/R14 (-0.1% diff).

You can get almost new steel rims cheap at aftermarket dealers - courtesy people like me (and a lot of tbhpians) who changed to alloys at day 1. But please check whether the steel rim width is enough to accomodate the larger tires.

Thanks for your reply. I am worried about too wide tyres scraping the body. I have read few user reports in tbhp who have done such an upsize but to be honest i am bit skeptical. Is there any other 14 inch tyre that i can go for?

Also, how problematic is fitting a 14 incher in the boot?

Hey Shubaham I would personally suggest you to go in for set of 4 Alloys!!

HERE'S WHY: I had 13" alloys with 175/65 rubber initially on my ride which I had upgraded to 14" ones with 185/60 rubber. I made a mistake of picking up set of 5 14" and could never fit the 5th one in the boot and trust me Santro has a big boot but the space for the spare wheel is just about accurate for a 13" !!
Now I am running on set of 4 15" Alloys with 195/45 rubber and a spare 13" rim and 175/65 rubber as an emergency in the boot.
Also, Alloys are any day better than Rims in Longivity and Looks. Since you would have the spare wheel only as an emergency, retain the best(or unused) wheel of the 5 which you got with your I10 and exchange the 4 rims for a set of 4 Alloys.
Its my Personal Opinion.

Okay if i have a spare 13", wont it be a problem when i replace it with a flat tyre. Will i be able to drive the car for, let us say, 50 kms on a highway? If the 14" wont fit in the spare tyre space can it still be carried in the main boot?

Although i do want alloys ultimately, i want to split the purchase because of budget constraints, so i was planning to spend about 15-17K (4 tyres + rims) followed by another 15k (6 months later) for alloys.

Another factor is that i like to keep on adding some stuff to my car every now and then rather than having every thing at one go.
