2) Why is this happening? Is it normal?

Definitely does not look normal. After how many kilometers is this happening? Did you drive on very bad terrain/loose gravel on under-inflated tyres?

This would have happened after around 10000 kms .
Tyre pressure is maintained at around 34 psi. I drive on 95% good roads...with the occasional bad stretch. One thing ,...yes is there are lots of stones on the road, the ones they use for road laying. The michelin guy says it could be because of that.

what do you guys think?

If fact I think i should post pics of the other tyres .

re: Michelin XM2 Tyres in India

Guys how is the ride quality with these tyres? Are they available in 165/65 R13 size?

I need to change the tires in my chevy spark. I have read on the forum that Michelin tires have issues of sidewall cracking. Does it happen even this tires?

Yes they are available in that size. Check out the website-

http://www.michelin.in/Home

They are good tyres. Have not experienced any side wall cracking after 14000 kms.

That is definitely not normal. I urge you to write to Michelin and keep us posted. http://www.michelin.in/Home/About-Michelin/Contact-Us

Is this connected to that circumferential groove missing from the new tyres?

I don't know about the upgrade size for your spark, but I have been using Michelins XM1+ for my Zen; stock size R12- 145/80. Changed about 1.5 years ago, and done about 6K kms. What I have noticed that they are extremely silent and offer a good road grip. This was after I changed from my OEM JK Ultima XP tyres.
I have not encountered any sidewall cracking as of now, and in fact the tyres are in pristine condition. Agreed that the mileage is low, but its more than 1.5 years too. Not even a puncture on them!

Regards,
Saket

re: Michelin XM2 Tyres in India

Guys,

Need to upgrade shoes for my Verna CRDi (2009) which is currently running 175/70/14.

I am thinking of MRF ZLO (195/60/14), Yoko C Drive (185/65/14) or Michelin XM2.

I want decent sidewalls, soft ride and less noise. I am not a performance kinda guy.

What is recommended?

My current B250s are going strong at 45k kilometers.

Your requirements are the very strengths of the XM2 tyres. Do you still need any more recommendations??

I was in a similar dilemma as you some months ago but am very happy with my XM2 set which are still almost lyk new even after 10k kms.

re: Michelin XM2 Tyres in India

Hello guys

I need suggestions and advice from you guys on tyre upgrades. I own a 2nd generation (Year 2006) WagonR LXI which has now clocked 75000+ kms. The stock tyres were JK Steel Tube tyres 155/65 R13 which got worn out when i completed almost 38000 kms. in the year 2010. I upgraded to Goodyear Duraplus tubeless 155/65 R13 which claims that these tyres will last 1 lakh kilometers. But to my surprise its been now hardly 35000 kms since i upgraded and these goodyear already started getting worn out. Thanks to Bangalore roads which are full of craters and potholes now since ages. I dont do wheel alignment, balancing and rotation in M.A.S.S but give it to the trusted tyre service center in JC Road. The same service center recommended that i can drive max. 3000 -4000 kms. more on these Goodyear and then i need to upgrade for sure, else it will start giving me troubles.

The JC Road tyre service guy recommends me to upgrade to 165/65 R13 Michelin XM2 and to compliment these dimensions asks me to buy steel rims of width 4.5J x 13 meant for WagonR or buy steel rims of width 5J x 13 meant for Maruti Baleno. The current width of my stock steel rims are 4J x 13.

Now for my question - Does the above upgrade suggestions sound sense or you would like to suggest better specifications for tyre upgrade? Also the price these guys are quoting for Michelin XM2 is Rs. 3350 per tyre. Is this the best deal?

Please advice and thanks in advance for your replies

re: Michelin XM2 Tyres in India

Hi guys, I have a Swift VDi, done 46k kms, and one of my stock MRF tyres got deformed, so the car was wobbling like an alcoholic.

Changed it with the stephny, so driving fine right now, but need to get her some new footwear. Can you guys suggest some brands/sizes with the price in Bombay?

Thanks in advance.

I have also upgraded to XM2s on my new Amaze and am happy with their performance. I would second S2!!! 's views on the XM2s.

As for the functionality of this, i believe this is to minimise irregular shoulder wear.

Well, funny. All the 4 tyres are 12/12.

That's very weird. You sure the groove is not there on the other side right?

It's there on the front wheels but not on the back ones. Very weird. Is one set fake?
