My bad - I should have been clearer. BluEarth RV02 was an import which has been sold in India for ages, and is now rarely available if at all.

After Yokohama set up their manufacturing in India, they have started selling the locally manufactured BluEarth GT AE51, which is newer to our market than the UC6.

I have a similar query. Unable to find a direct answer - would request your inputs please

1) Will having 2 tyres of 205 /65/R16 and 2 of 205 /60/R16 be okay?

2) Will chaning all 4 from the existing 205/60/R16 to 205/65/R16 have any negative impact on fuel consumption?

It’s completely ok as long as the same size is on both sides of one axle.

In fact taller tyres would boost fuel efficiency slightly, wider tyres would have a negative impact. In this case you’re going taller without changing the width.

Thank you.

And the 205/65/R16 doesn't give any issues like touching or rubbing against the plastic / body while turning etc in the ecosport does it?

Just purchased a used 2013 Titanium Diesel and planning on getting the tyres changed so thought it best to check here before making a blunder.

The difference in rolling diameter is 3.14%, which is slightly over the recommended 3%, but should be ok as many BHPians are running with this setup without any issues

I have driven my vehicle around 6700 KMs after upgradation of the front tires.
1. There are is no issue of tyres scratching against wheel arches for 205/65/R16 tyres. Ecosport's wheel arches are big enough to accommodate 205/65/R16.
2. Visually it looks better than stock tyres. I will get 205/65/R16 for the rear as well when the time comes.
3. As per my calculations, there must be around a 3% error in the odometer reading with tire circumference increase. The odometer must be showing 3% less than the actual distance covered.
4. I have not experienced any ride and handling behavior changes.
5. No evident effect on Fuel Efficiency was noticed.

Re: Ford Ecosport : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Dear Friends,
I have changed all the four tyres with Continental UC6 upsize profile of 205/65/R16 in Titanium manual diesel 2019 model and run few hundred kms with it. I did this change of tyres and upsizing after taking in to consideration the advise received from some of our esteemed members. I'm happy with the change as the ride has become lot smoother, very less or negligible noise and comfort over pot holes. My ride is mostly on highways with occasional rough roads. My present stock good year has run 50k kms and started giving lot of noise and frequent punctures and also less grip with strain on brake shoes. I did this change from Lal tyres Kattupakkam Chennai and an established name in the business. The cost paid was Rs.27,000/- for Four tyres(Rs.6750/- each) including alignment & balancing. Date of manufacture is 2922 and it means week 29, year 2022(July 18 ) and just 1&1/2 months old. I did arrive to fix UC6 after considering Michellin primacy 4ST(not available or early 2021),Yokohama Gt-Ae51, earth1(hard compound ,tyre noise & less comfort)Bridgestone B390(noise,hard compound).

Re: Ford Ecosport : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Thank you for all your inputs gentlemen.

I picked up 4 tyres of Goodyear - 205/65/R16. They appear to be working well. Glad I checked here and took the 65 instead of the 60 - in addition to being cheaper I believe they will be slightly more comfortable too.

Re: Ford Ecosport : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Hi everyone.
I bought Continental UC6 205/60 R16 in December 2020 and have completed 59k km with them. Tyres still had about 6-8k km worth of tread left but i felt that they were getting hard and i got 3-4 punctures in the last couple of months. That and with the regular service pending, i thought i might as well get them replaced.
So i went for UC6 again, but in 215/60 R16. I wanted to get 205/65 originally but the difference in diameter was somewhere around 3.5% which, though i was aware of earlier, but made me look for alternative sizes. Now 215/60 is technically a size over what my wheels can accommodate (6.5 J) but the size variation is only about 1.8%, well within the 3% limit. I paid 34k for a set of 4, with wheel balancing, alignment, new valves and nitrogen thrown in for 'free'.
Anyway, the usual UC6 niceties apart, i haven't noticed any significant improvement or degradation in the way the car handles. The steering feels slightly weightier which i like and ride is a bit more pliant which could be due to the new tyres or the new shock absorbers or the increased sidewall (+5 mm) or all of the above working in tandem.
I don't think this was needed, tbh. But at Team-BHP we don't always listen to the head.. Right?
The improvement, if any, are too minuscule to be noticed at least by me. Steering feel was not bad by any means even with the stock size. The ride height has increased by 5 mm which is a step in the wrong direction for me..though dynamically it feels almost the same as stock setup. I think the Ecosport would be so much better to drive with a 10 mm drop in ride height, but that's a discussion for another day.
I'd stick to the stock size from now on..I think.

Re: Ford Ecosport : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Hello everyone, In our family run ecosport, we upgraded the tyre to 205/65 R16
What is the correct sir pressure to be followed, It has run around 750kms including 600km highway trip.
But in city roads over potholes and uneven surfaces ride quality is poor. The tyres are Apollo alnac 4g.

Re: Ford Ecosport : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

I want to change my Ecosport tyres. Current tyres are Bridgestone Ecopia 205/50 R17. They have served me 33,000 kms in five years. My running will be around 35,000 kms in next five years.

205/50s are notorious for giving a lot of problems, check out this thread - https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/tyre-...-r17-size.html (Ford EcoSport Facelift: Tyre bulging issue (R17 size))

I would suggest that you go for 215/55R17s, it’s only a 2.4% increase in diameter compared to the 205/60R16s and will not foul with the wheel arches.

You can go for Yoko BluEarth GT, Conti UC6s or Vredestein Ultrac Vortis in this size.

Thanks to RubberGuru1113 for helping me in selecting tyres for my Ecosport. I have replaced all four tyres with Bridgestone Turanza T001 215/55/R17. These are not brand new tyres but have done around 200kms. Manufacturing date is May’22 and paint mark is still visible. Checked bead region to make sure that there is no cut or bend. I paid Rs 7000/ per tyre whereas new tyre price is Rs 11500/.

Just adding on to Manish's post for the benefit of members. The tyres in question were removed from the Innova Crysta, whose higher variants come with 215/55R17, and it is common for a lot of people to go for taller 215/60R17 tyres as a "zero mile upgrade" on the Crysta, as the 215/55 profile is a little less for the Crysta, especially at full load when it can tip the scales at 2.5 tons. However, for the EcoSport it would comfortably serve the purpose, especially in comparison to the stock size of 205/50, which was prone to damage as highlighted earlier.

Another point to be noted is that when the dealer claims that the tyres he is selling have only done so-and-so km, there are a couple of checks that we can do as customers to easily ascertain if they are being truthful. Apart from the basic sanity checks - like manufacturing date, punctures, cuts on the sidewall, etc., one should also look for these markers:-

Ford Ecosport : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread-whatsapp-image-20221027-5.35.35-pm.jpeg

Name: Vents.jpg
Views: 1346
Size: 48.5 KB

New tyres (usually) come with a mark of paint on the tread region (highlighted with a red circle in the above image), this is used in various stages for traceability and sorting by the company, and also to differentiate between different SKUs for the same size and product (say for instance, MRF supplying 215/60R16 Wanderer Street for both the Kia Sonet and the Maruti Brezza - they would have a different paint mark). This mark would disappear after around 500 km of usage. However, with the advent of RFID and other traceability measures, usage of this system is on the wane, and these days it is increasingly common to see brand new tyres without any paint marks.

Don't fret - there's another identifier (marked with a yellow circle) - the vents (small holes through which excess rubber escapes during the moulding process). These can be small projections (like the first image) or simply circular impressions (like the second image). This is a marker which typically fades after around 1000 km of usage.

Apart from this, the tyres the dealer is selling you should have been demounted with a lot of care and the bead region (highlighted with green lines in the below image) should be free of any bends or cuts.

Ford Ecosport : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread-whatsapp-image-20221027-5.44.26-pm.jpeg

Even a minor bend or a small cut in the rubber like in the images below will lead to air leakage, and should be grounds for rejecting the tyre. Even if the dealer offers to use fevi-kwik to fix the cut (like what happened to another BHPian who reached out to me), refuse it by all means.
