Upsized my 40k run stock Bridgestone 175/65 R14 to Earth 1 185/65 R14 on my Vista QJD. The ride has become very silent on tar roads and car feels more planted. Done around 500 kms on my daily drive. Compared to stock tyres, they are definitely better!

I'm only speculating here, it might be a positioning gambit by Yokohama. Plant the Earth 1 in A-Drive territory and bring in the C-Drive 2 - a.k.a Blue Earth to replace the C-Drive series.

If they bring in the C Drive2 then it will be awesome! I am using C Drive on i20 and i am very happy with the tyre in-terms of grip and silence!

I wonder why they are taking so long to bring in the C Drive 2? It is launched pretty long back and is available in the international market.


EDIT : Just went through Yoko's Euprope website. Blue earth and CDrive 2 are independent sub types. And i doubt they would bring Blue Earth to india since it is available only in 15 inch and above. CDrive 2 has a wide range of sizes

Changed my Potenza GIII(185/65/14) to Earth 1(185/65/14) on Figo tdci.Now ride is extremely silent and soft.braking also improved.G III was very noisy and vibration was felt on the steering when it clocked 50k.Earth 1 got for 4300/tyre.

I just got Palio Stile 1.6. I need to change tyres since the stock tyres had hardened though just run 25000 kms since 2007.
My priorities in order are
1. Better sidewall and overall more robust since road conditions in our area is from good to not so good and bad.
2. Better wet grip and breaking
3. Reasonable ride and handling blance
4. Reasonable noise
5. Fuel efficiency, I am not worried.
6. If they serve for 30000 kms its sufficient
Use will be on highway and town also.
Can Earth1 satisfy the above criteria.
Any good model From Bridgestone, Michelin, Yokohoma or Goodyear.
Preferring 185/65 R 14 or if suggested185/60 R 14 also. Odometer error is no worry.
Waiting for suggestions.

I am using 185/65/R 14(previous tyres were G3 potenza) Earth 1 on my figo tdci.almost 1k covered with this tyres&are extremely silent,ride is comfortable,braking is good.wet grip not tried out.About durability it should last 30k easily.it's a real vfm product.

Time to change the shoes for my Figo. Thinking of Earth 1 with 185/65 R14, i just saw a review comment in changemytyre.com, saying these tyres were not comfortable and very harsh on bumpy roads. Im not going with this one comment but likes to know the feedback from fellow bhp-ians on these tyres, esp'ly on bumpy road conditions.

Sidewall strength is one of the USP of Earth 1
Haven't tested on wet roads, but tread pattern hints at decent wet weather performance.
Ride quality was good
Noise was also reasonable, but I have experienced humming noise at speeds on broken tar roads,
Has to do with steel rims I guess.

I am currently searching for options in 185/70/R14.
I would have gone for Earth 1, but it is not available in 185/70/R14

Japanese tyre manufacturer Yokohama inaugurated its first production facility in India in Bahadurgarh, Haryana.

The plant has come up at an investment of Rs 300 crore and can manufacture 2,000 tyres per day. This can be escalated to 8,000 per day.

Initially, the plant will manufacture the Yokohama Earth-1 tyres, that cater to the comfort and economy segment cars. Apart from manufacturing the Earth-1 range, Yokohama will continue to import other tyres it sells in India.

First phase of commercial production will begin in the second half of 2014. Right now, the plant in undergoing the trial production phase and employs 100 individuals and this will eventually grow to 300 employees.


The Yokohama Earth-1 tyres have been “Designed for India”, says the company, keeping the diverse road conditions in mind and will cater to most of the cars in B, B+ and C-segments. Yokohama India currently has approx 600 point of sales which also includes 22 Yokohama Club Network (YCN) and this number is set to double by the end of 2014.

Fitted the Earth-1 tyres on the Altis last weekend from Madhus.

Initial impressions are very good. Moved from OE size of 195/65-15 to 205/65-15. This has caused the ride quality to improve dramatically. Ofcourse the old Bridgestones were 47K kms and 5 years old so the ride/handling had pretty much gone for a toss.

The other advantage is the increase in ground clearance. No need to worry about bangalore infamous speed breakers. The car now looks visibly raised. Some may not like stance but wider tyres with larger dia fill the wheel well completely. I love that.

Tried a short highway stint and was impressed with braking and road noise. Cabin now has very little road noise vs before and even dad appreciated the silence in the cabin. On the highway it performed very good at speeds upto 110kmph. After that I felt some lightness around centre position which I found a bit strange. Since this was on day 1 I will check this out again. Braking is vastly improved. Even on slippery wet road the ABS did not kick in when braking for a hidden speed breaker. Earlier the ABS would go crazy in the rains.

My driver came and told me the new tyres are so smooth that you don't feel anything on the road and they are so silent. Even he loves it.

195/65-15 OE Turanza on the left and the 205/65-15 Earth 1 on the right. The turanza seen here is the spare and had almost full life in it so changed only 4 tyres. No sense in throwing a good tyre away. The spare will only be used in emergencies now.

Lucky you, I wanted these tyres but alas earth 1 is not available in 185/70/R14.

Could you please post closer pics of the tyres fitted on the rims, the sidewall and the tread pattern ?

Looks nice! The Yoko have very square shoulders, the tyres will look the widest for any given size. How much is it retailing for?

OT: Is that grille from the Diesel Altis?
