I recently had replaced the front two tyres with stock 175/65 earth1 tyres and found them to be quite good.Quiet and the ride quality has improved, not facing the issues you are even with 32psi.
Im so happy with them that im going today to swap out the rear tyres as well, even though they have some life left.

I think 186/60/r14 are closer to the stock size but Im not sure how much of a difference in ride quality it makes. Maybe owners who have upsized with 185/65 can help you out.

Re: Yokohama Earth-1 Tyres (designed for India)

Have been using the Yoko Earth 1's for about 25,000 Kms now on my Ford Figo ZXi, almost done 18 months or so. Have been very happy with the tires so far. In fact did the Ladakh Trip where there are non existent roads in some places without any sidewall damages or anything of that sort.

However, one of the Earth 1's have been damaged due to Sudden Hard Braking whereas a Flat Spot has been created on the tyre. There was a lot of rubber burn (with white fumes) from the front LHS Tyre as the LHS wheel got locked while braking whereas the RHS wheel did not.

Though not much visible to the eye, but yes it is damaged. Sharing a picture:

The story of the incident has been narrated in my Ownership Thread as per the link provided : (Check Post # 35)
http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/test-d...-update-3.html

Have replaced the damaged tyre with the spare tyre for the time being and shall replace it soon.

Re: Yokohama Earth-1 Tyres (designed for India)

I upgraded my Civic shoes to the 205/65 R15 Earth 1s and I've asked this on another thread as well. Am still searching for a good input on the correct tyre pressure to be maintained. I started off at 32 PSI, moved it down to 31 for comfort and now 30.

But according to this site the ideal pressure works out to 28 PSI. Any suggestions?

It is up to you to find a decent balance of fuel economy and ride comfort. I'd probably stay at the 32 mark for in the city. Do inspect the sidewall closely and ensure that there is sufficient air pressure to avoid excessive flex, as that is the primary cause for tyre bursts on highways.

Thanks Viraat. I did some more research & talked to a few folks. Am going to settle with 32 & come down to 31 if the ride seems too harsh.

Update: I just got my second set of Earth 1s for my swift, replacing the XM1s (185/70/14) along with the set already on my Civic (205/65/15). This is truly an excellent bit of rubber. Super value for money & good to run for around 40-45k kms.

How many kms have the Earth 1 on your Civic run? Can you please rate it terms of silence, dry and wet grip?

I've run them about 12k so far on Delhi & Mumbai roads.
Silence : Outstanding on Tar, good on cement.
Dry grip is excellent: have done a few huge swoops without them even squealing.
Wet grip: adequate for my driving style. I never push the car in rain/fog/etc.
Hope that helps!

The price varies from 4200 to 4500 based on logistics and the quantum off take from dealer to dealer. I suppose you are getting a fair deal

I use 28 PSI on my Civic. Was running 28 even on 205/65-15 and now on 205/55-16 I still maintain 28.

To be honest, for tyre pressure, there is no "perfect" tyre pressure. It is like asking how much sugar is perfect in a cup of coffee. Everyone has a different taste.

Even with pressure, everyone has their own sweet spot. A higher pressure gives you slightly better fuel economy and a lighter steering. Maybe a slightly stiffer/harder ride quality (too low can also give a hard ride as there isnt enough air in the tyres to act as a cushion). A lower pressure might make the steering a bit heavier which might be appreciated by some people. Also a softer ride is usually the car. Car grips better at a lower pressure.

So, my suggestion is always this: Try various pressures on your car ranging from 28-34 to see what you like and then stick to it. It may take you 5k kms to try out everything but it is the best way of finding your own personal sweet spot.

Thanks for that input Nikhil. I like the comparison to sugar in coffee. I'm playing with 30-31 for now with 32 for the highway. Just my limited experience, but 28 on 55 profile tyres may cause excessive wear(?)

Maybe, but surprisingly, I have easy access to tyres! So, it's not a concern for me.

I value the feel of my car much more over 5-10k of tyre life!

Re: Yokohama Earth-1 Tyres (designed for India)

Changed my Yoko C drives (185/65/R14) to Earth 1. C drives had soft sidewall, very comfort ride, good braking and excellent wet driving. Earth-1 looks very sturdy and appear like they will last longer. Ride though not as comfort as C drives, does appear planted. I had considered Michelin XM2 and factor that titled in Earth-1 favour was the sidewall.

Re: Yokohama Earth-1 Tyres (designed for India)

My stock goodyear tyres on my vista qjet lasted only 33k km & then changed to earth 1 , amazing grip & great braking distance , earth 1 lasted 70000 km , that too without any puncture and i drive on some very rough roads , amazing vfm tyres , i must say.

Re: Yokohama Earth-1 Tyres (designed for India)

Hey Gurus,

Please advise what will be an ideal fit for Honda jazz 2011(2nd Gen)

Confused between--- Yoko Earth one or Michelin xm2

Please suggest Tyre size too for best performance.

Thanks
