Re: 4th gen. Honda City : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Dear FireBug ,
Since you have installed wider 195mm width tyres against the OEM size of 175mm width tyres, are you experiencing heavy steering than with the earlier 175mm width tyres?

1. MRF Perfinza - 5600
2. Conti MC 5 - 5300
3. Yokohoma Earth 1 - 5400 and
4. Michelin P4ST. - 6700

My main requirements were
1. Comfortable ride
2. Lesser noise
3. Better braking ability of course

My running is limited to around 10K per year. My City Vs highway running is 60:40. I may not keep the car beyond 2-3 years. So I was not looking for long term durability necessarily.

Michelins were too costly and hence rejected. MC5 was out of stock. Dealer told me that they are getting UC6 stock rather than MC5 and are better than MC5. Did not consider Yoko's because I saw reviews that they get harder after 20k. Did not consider MRFs as I was not sure how noisy and comfortable they were compared to UC6.

After changing the tires, drove back to my home for around 15 km. So cannot give proper feedback. But initial impression is that its definitely silent and also comfortable. Overall characteristic of the car has also seem to have improved. Couldn't drive on highway.
Hi Everyone, I am looking at 195/60/ R15 Continental UC6 for my 2015 Honda City. How's the long term review on these tyres?

I assume these will fit on the stock Steel rims without any issues right?

Also, I got a quote of which is 800 more per tyre in Mumbai. Have the prices gone up, or do i need to shop around more.

Also, please suggest if there are any other models to consider. My priority is best grip and comfort. Running is low so wear is not a concern. Don't want to repeat Michelin as mine was a very negative experience (Tyres started cracking after 3 years only )

Re: 4th gen. Honda City : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

I have a Honda City 4G and plan to upgrade the stock tyres (175 65 R15) with something better.
Noise and Mileage are my primary concerns and my first preference is the Michelin Primacy 4ST due to its low noise.
What size should I go for ?

In my experience you should go for the stock size. That is optimal in most ways, cost, fuel efficiency and stability. The Primacy 4ST should have better road grip than the stock ones too.

Re: 4th gen. Honda City : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

I contacted a dealer here in Chennai and he has the Primacy 4STs but they are 195/60R15, he mentioned they don't come in 175s also if he were to get them for me, they would be old stock from 2019.
I can live with voiding my suspension warranty for better tyres but I'm not sure if unused tyres degrade with age. Is it safe to get these old ones?

I have not had good experience with old dated tyres on my Tucson with Nissin Tyres. The tires started chipping off after 5000 km or so.

I do not think its a good idea to get very old tyres.

195/60R15 is a perfect upgrade for the 4th gen. You will find multiple reviews on this thread after upgrading to this size.

Re: 4th gen. Honda City : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Good evening fellow members,

I am currently using Honda City 4th Gen VX with OEM Bridgestone Ecopia EP150 185/55 R16 tyres. I am facing two major issues with them, High road noise and Jerky ride due to the low (and thus hardened) 55 width of the tyres.
To sort the above issues out, I am on a look out for replacement and I am interested in Primacy 4STs.

- On exploring the Michelin site, I noticed that for rim size 16, only the 195/55 and 195/60 sizes have ST written along side them. So, does this mean only these 2 sizes are optimal for sorting out my road noise issues?

- Secondly, only the 195/55 and 195/60 sizes have XL (Xtra Load) written along side them, so does this mean that these tyres will have hardened sidewall and will not improve the ride comfort add all?

I am particularly interested in the 195/60 size, so, ST written in front of it makes me happy but XL written along it makes me doubtful. Thus, I request you all to enlighten me on this topic please.

THANKS

Re: 4th gen. Honda City : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

I have booked ZX CVT 5th gen and getting it delivered this month end.

For tyre change (mostly bridgestone along with new car)

1. Should I look for the same manufacturer (Bridgestone to Bridgestone)

Or

2. Can I exchange with any other like Michelin, Continental etc

3. What is the difference in price for the new tyres payable in case it is the same manufacturer, if that is a point to be considered for better pricing? (I would be exchanging soon after delivery of the car)

4. Any recommendation of tyre dealers in Chennai. I live in T.Nagar.

5. I prefer 195/60/R15 - after reading the thread.

You can go for any manufacturer. However you have to drive to the tyre shop immediately after taking delivery to get the highest exchange value. Call the tyre shop in advance and get the quote and schedule the visit. Call multiple dealers in advance to get an idea on the difference cost.

Re: 4th gen. Honda City : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Hello everyone!

I'm currently planning to upsize my 2016 City's tyres to 195/60 R15 from the existing 175/65 R15. I wanted to go for the Yokohama Earth1 tyres after looking at reviews but the tyre shop guy has recommended the Continental UC6 instead. I am looking for a quieter ride with better grip and handling with this upgrade.

Prices of both is similar (around 6300) but I need advice on from experienced members which one should I opt for! Please suggest!

The UC6 is a better product than the earth 1 any day - it is a modern, globally sold design.

Re: 4th gen. Honda City : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Hi Everyone,

So I have a Honda City Vx 2016 which has done 18K kms and is still on factory fitted Goodyears (175/65/R15). Though there is still decent amount of tread left in the tyre, the ride feels bumpy above 40 Kmph. The tyre shop from which I got the Wheel Balancing done says that the tyre rubber has become hard due to age.

Is this be a valid reason ? I know ideally we should get the tyre changed around 4 years but the car hasn't seen much use lately.

I did however got a quotes from nearby shops for replacement of all 4 tyres -

MRF ZVTV 185/65/R15 - INR 4700
MRF Perfinza 195/60/R15 - INR 5600
Yokohama Earth 1 185/65/R15 - INR 5000
Bridgestone B290 185/65/R15 - INR 5500
Apollo Alnac 4Gs 185/65/R15 - INR 4500

Car is mainly going to see mix usage of city roads (Delhi) - 60 % and nearby highways - 40%. Expected milage per year ~ 3K Kms a year and driving style is sedate. Which one among these would be best suitable for my use case ?

Thanks.

5 years is the ideal time to change tyres. Tyres will get hard as they age and develop cracks. I would suggest the following tyres: MRF Perfinza, Michelin and Yokohama. Please don't go for MRF ZVTV or Apollo or Bridgestone. These are mostly fitted when the car comes out from factory and are not very good tyres.
