hi guys,

i need to change the tyres on my lancer sfxi. its currently running on the OE tyres 185/60 R14 bridgestone potenza RE88 on alloys.
im looking to change it to 195/60R14 turanza ER-60 or G-III. i was also considering 195/65R14 G-III but the bridgestone dealer said this is too big for the car.
the HM service guys say anything more than 185 will touch the body whilst turning.
the glx model of lancer comes with 175/80R13 which is a much larger diameter compared to the 185/60R14. the 195/65R14 are very close to this model whereas the 195/60R14 are jus slightly more than the OE 185/60R14 on my car.
pls. advise as to which size i should go for.

P.S. i do not want to change the current 14" alloys.

195/65-14 is wrong size for lancer....its very tall n will touch....Dont go near them

The problem is u want to upgrade to wider rubber with stock 14" alloys...U already have 185 rubber with 60 profile n if u go for 195 rubber the profile will decrease n also the ride quality....Mind u, 195 rubber wont give u anything extra than 185 rubber....

My suggestion would be go for 185/60-14 good performance rubber GIIIs n it will do the job the job as well as 195 std rubber n without the ride quality being hampered

the thing is the current 185/60R14 dont offer great ride quality. its actually quite poor. i figured 195/60 would offer a lil more cushion compared to the current setup as the profile would go up by half an inch. the bridgestone guy suggested turanza ER-60 instead of G-III as they offer better ride quality and lesser tyre roar. so shud i go for 195/60.
how will the profile decrease with the 195.
195/60 = 117mm
185/60 = 111mm
will the 195/60 touch?

spoke to the bridgestone guy here and he recommends the turanza ER-60 as it has very less tyre noise compared to G-III as well as RE88. the lancer seems to have an inherent problem of poor sound dampening which results in very audible tyre roar.
so shud i go for the turanza 195/60R14?

vid6639,
we have a lancer with 195/60R14 Goodyear Eagle Ventura and so far there have been no problems with it.
Just go for them but get either the turanzas or the GIIIs.
Cheers

The Turanza er60 is a new tyre with side protection against cuts which GIIIs are quite prone too.....also these are quite bcos of their their thread pattern....But there's no substitute for GIIIs grip levels.....yeah its noisy....
Now u got to choose what u want.....Both tyres are good...Dont look beyond them in Bridgestone

thanks guys, guess ill go for the turanzas 195/60R14.
im guessing the turanzas will offer better grip than the current potenza RE88 which should be fine.
the trade off for the quieter ride and side protection versus grip should be worth it. my current RE88 developed a few cuts on the side-wall.
im not lookin for grip at the cost of ride comfort.
thanks.

i went to they tyre dealer here today and checked out the potenza g-III as well as the turanza ER-60. i have decided against the G-III for reasons mentioned in previous posts.
but i also saw the michelin certis available for the same size 195/60R14.
any info available for these tyres and their performance on the lancer.
cudnt find much on the net either about these tyres.
pls. advise. thanks

Vid - Instead of the Certis I would recommend you to look at Michelin Energy Xm1's. They are a great set of tyres & I am currently running them on my VTEC. I earlier had RE88's & then Goodyear Eagle F1's & these are superior to both with nice grip, superb quietness & good comfort. Road noise is very very low compared to the RE88 & F1's.

Since your primary requirement is good ride comfort the XM1's would be perfect for you!

Other than that the Turnaza's are also a good choice.

the bridgestone shop here has given a price of Rs.3475 per tire for turanza ER-60 and Rs.3350 for the potenza G-III. im surprised a performance tyre is cheaper than a comfort tyre. are these prices ok here in bangalore?
what abt the michelin XM1's how much are they approx per tyre?
and finally wot do i do with my old tyres!!!

Mine in 185/65 R14 cost me 3100/- per tyre so 195 should be around 3200/- or so.

And as for your old tires are they completely worn out?? Or there is some tread life left. Either way you won't get much for them. The tyre dealer itself will buy them from you.

nope they arent completely worn out at all they have quite a bit of life still left in them the HM service engineers claim they can go on for anothe 8K Kms. they tyre guy says there are some ppl who will buy them which he will arrange but claims the tyres will fetch a 100-150 bucks for each tyre even though they are hardly worn out. im just changin them as on the lancer these tyres hav a lot of tyre noise which is becoming annoyin over time.

yep, i would suggest the michelins. i am currently running on XM1s & they are a dream...else you could go for Michelin Pilot Precidas, if you want the sporty look.

did you buy the car 2nd hand ? if so, the tyres will look good, but the rubber is old, that is why the noise. but you should get 500 per tyre, which is what i got for my rubber when i changed a couple of months back.

nope the car isnt second hand jus sparingly used and never driven on the limit. so they tyres hardly wore out. the noise has always been there from before as this is a known issue with the lancer and the RE88 tyres.

ok, so ive narrowed it down to
1.Turanza ER-60 195/60-14
2.Michelin Energy XM1 195/60-14
3.Michelin Energy XM1 185/65-14

need to decide amongst these 3.
i was thinkin for atleast 500 bucks per tyre for my old set as well. looks like i need to visit jc road and try my luck there.

does anybody know of any good michelin dealer here in bangalore?
