World's most expensive car tyres sold for Rs 4 crore in UAE

DUBAI: Embedded with 24-carat gold and specially selected diamonds, a set of four tyres made by an NRI-owned firm here was sold for more than Rs 4 crore, setting the Guinness world record for most expensive set of car tyres.
The first and only set of tyres of this kind, the gold-plated tyres were developed by Z Tyres in Dubai.

They were decorated by the world's most exclusive jewellers -- artisan jewellers in Italy -- and designed in Dubai, the company said in its website.
The application of gold leafing was done in the UAE by the same craftsmen who have worked on the new presidential palace in Abu Dhabi.

The tyres were included as "World's Most Expensive Set of Car Tyres" in the Guinness Book of Records, the company claimed.

They were sold for 2.2 million dirhams ($600,000 or Rs 4.01 crore) at REIFEN trade fair in Dubai, it said.

The company will donate the money to the Zenises Foundation.
"We've always treasured the outstanding skills and dedication involved in developing our Z Tyre range so we thought what better way to celebrate this achievement than with a record-breaking special set of tyres especially commissioned for a unique buyer," Harjeev Kandhari, Founder and CEO of Zenises which owns Z Tyres said.

"In keeping with the spirit of the holy month of Ramzan, Z Tyres will donate all profits from the $600,000 sale to the Zenises Foundation which focuses on improving access to education across the world," he added.

Gold plated & diamond studded tires, really?

I could still digest gold plated and diamond studded high end cars being bought in Middle East, but this feat is indigestible.

That someone bought it shows that in spite of the rock bottom prices of crude oil, there is no change in the flamboyance and show off.
When it comes to mind boggling and stupid flamboyance, just for the heck of it, nothing beats the Arabs, what with the Lions and leopards as pets, to gold plated cars and now tires.

That's a new low.

What is the protection for the gold and diamonds when parking it at a shopping mall? And even if they can have guards all the time, how do they ensure that these do not fall off during one of their show-off stunts?

Real waste of money for flamboyance.

I doubt people purchasing this would want to take this car to a shopping mall. It will just a show off ride and back to the garage. Also if someone has purchased the tires so expensive, then he/she ought to have even more expensive cars too and I seriously doubt such people visit the malls themselves anyway

However, I am still not sure, for which car these tires would have been made or are they "just made" for the sake of it without keeping any particular car in mind? Any ideas?

How does it make any sense to add Gold and Diamonds to a tyre?
Even if they did, the small patches do not justify such an enormous $ amount.

Unless they studded several 'huge' solitaires on the tyres, I fail to understand how each type reached a 1 Cr. price tag?

One word comes to mind - STUPID.

Might as well have used powered gold and diamonds as filler for the rubber compound. That way the owner can do $1000 Gold coloured burnouts !

P.s. Mr. Kandhari if you do read this thread and take my idea and of using gold / diamond as filler in your next tyre design, you owe me 1% royalty!

If one observes carefully, its not the 'value' of the tyres but of the gold and diamonds which are anyways expensive.
So be it sandals, shoes, watches, mobiles, etc. if someone adds gold and diamond it automatically be very very expensive.
Next would be most expensive wiper blades, Keys, etc.
