Re: Toyota Innova Crysta : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

What's the average life span of the tyres on an Innova Crysta? Will there be a decrease in life span if its used extensively in the hills?

I know why you're asking this. I'd say that instead of changing tyres 10 times they should just change the driver once. Especially since we are paying for it. In my knowledge I have not come across a single Crysta with such miserable tyre life in hills or plains. When others are paying for expenses rubber be damned.

This particular vehicle sees heavy footed driving. Wearing out tyres and brakes.

Guys! How is the ride on bad roads (read near off road conditions) on the 17" rims.

A cousin of mine wants to upgrade his new GX Auto from 205/65R16 size to 235/55R17 tires on after market rims.

The OD size is similar on both 215/55R17 (O.E. ZX Variant size) and 235/55R17 upgrade size.

Hence the query.

Thanks

Rishi

I don't know about 235/55, but 215/55 misses the extra cushioning offered by 16 inchers. I also feel more confident in 16 inchers in bad roads and can drive faster. On the flipside, 17 inchers have an upper hand when it comes to good roads. I also feel the wallowing effect is lesser in 17.

Re: Toyota Innova Crysta : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Dear Team Members,

I’ve a ZX 2.8 AT with 17 inch rims, June 2016 manufacture. I’ve faced lot of issues with respect to the rims due to the thinner side wall.

With Stock Tire : 215/55 R17

1st Incident: Both left rims bent when encountered a pot hole on highway. Rims got replaced under warranty.

2nd Incident : This time it wasn’t a pothole but a joint on the bridge. Rim got a bend but to my luck the air wasn’t going out of it. That rim is doing the duty of spare tire.

With Different size tire : 225/55 R17

3rd Incident : Again a bridge joint, this time it was a minor bend ( which I didn’t notice till I got ‘Rim off’ comment on Quality Control Report from service advisor)

I’m planning for a long trip (2,500kms ) in Jan and was hoping to fix two issues once and for all
1) To rectify rims
2) Avoid Rim bend

The only option I can think for now is changing my rims to 16 inch and fit them with 215/60 R16 ( I have a height restriction due to stack parking )

I would request the members to share their inputs.

Thanks.

Re: Toyota Innova Crysta : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Innova 2.8 GX has run 55000 kms on Michellin Primacy 3st. Changed them on day 1 of delivery.
I had to change 4 tyres all in between this 50k due to side wall breaks. All were my mistakes of having taken the MUV on broken roads.

Now, contemplating Continental MC5? Size is 215/60/R16.

1. Is this is good?
2. Planning to buy from online tyreport? Any feedback?

Look forward to your response.

Regards,
Benny

Re: Toyota Innova Crysta : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

If you are ok with 215/65/16 there are a lot of options - Michelin Primacy SUV, Michelin LTX Force, Yokohama Geolandar, Continental Crosscontact etc and the the variation is just 1.9% compared to stock which is within acceptable limit. I have used Primacy SUV in this size before uprading to 17. These tyres would be better over broken roads than Primacy 3ST.

Avoid Yoko Blueearth- ride is very hard. Taken to inflating the tyre 2 psi lower than recommended

I’ve tried P4ST in two sizes, one in 225/55/R17 avatar and another in 215/60/R16. Compared to other tires I’ve found this tire of giving more grip especially in wet. You may experience little stiffness in steering wheel while manoeuvring at parking speeds.

Re: Toyota Innova Crysta : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

We will be getting delivery of the ZX AT in a few weeks of time. I am really worried about the 17 inchers and the issues with bends or tyre bursts. The dealer says these issues were present in the initial batches of the Crysta but fixed later. Can anyone throw light on this since I see the tyre size has not changed. Are the issues still present and what could be some measures that can be taken to prevent these tyre incidents? Would having a slightly higher air pressure help? I even checked the option of swapping to the 16 inch rims if they are more reliable but I couldnt convince the dealer to do it. Hence I am asking for some help and suggestions regarding the same. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

My In-Law's Innova has run 10K KM, bought in 2019 Dec. No issues so far. We did a trip to Bangalore-Dhanushkod-Pondi-Bangalore with 6 people and luggage on board, did not face any issues. There were some really bad patches and we did some good speed. Personally I prefer these tyres over my 16 inchers because the 17 are more stiffer and handles better. On a bad patch though 16 inchers offer better ride. That said low profiles in general are more prone to cuts/punctures and you have to be a little more cautious while driving on bad sections.

Also do note 17 inchers have lesser life/mileage compared to 16. The case is similar in some other cars as well(Ecosport/Hexa).

Hi, I have changed my car’s alloy from 17 inch to 16 inch with 215/60 R16 rubber after living with 17inch for 3.5 years. . The difference is significant. Ride is better and small bumps are absorbed better.

Reason for changing:

1) Don’t want to be always careful when I see a pothole, irrespective of tire pressure I kept.

2) Had minor bend in my rims so wanted a permanent solution

3) Also, the 17 inch tire is ₹2000-3000 expensive then 16 inch tire.

I’m currently running the 16inch on Primacy 4 ST.

About 16 inch rims availability you can check at M2M car care and accessories. They are based out of blr. They can probably trade your 17 inch to 16 inch.

Hope this helps.

Found a Crysta 2.8Z with 235/65 R17 tyres. It actually looked oversized.I also suspect the tyres may be rubbing against the wheel wells.Toyota Innova Crysta : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread-img_20200125_140626515_hdr.jpg
