re: Maruti Ignis : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

a little late to the party. how much overkill would a 205 50 16 be on the Ignis? i have an extra set with me.
mostly city driving with a max of two people on board.
should i,
a: just replace the 175 65 15 set with these. 1.25% difference.
b: trade in the 16's for 15's and get 185/195 width rubber.

any inputs would be appreciated.

I think 205mm of width will be too much for a car like this. The suspension will be strained and you might also manage to damage other parts due to this setup. If you have to mostly drive in city, where the speeds are generally low, why are you considering a change? I think 175 65 15 are decent in terms of low speed performance. If you are too much tempted to carry any upgradation, I will suggest you to invest in good 16" alloy wheels and go for decently sized tyres.

Hey nitin, thanks for the feedback.

the only reason why i asked this was because i have a set of 16" momo revenge with 205/50/16 yokohama A drive r1's. they have run about 15k kms and are just lying around. i also intend to swap out springs and dampers at some point.

i shall post pictures here once the deed is done. cheers.

re: Maruti Ignis : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

so, the deed is done. have a slight clearance issues on the front between the suspension and the tyres. will try to get this resolved tomorrow or else will roll back to the stock setup and get 195's for the 16" rims.

does anyone else have clearance issues on the ignis with 195's?

here are some images. it looks really good now. wheel arches have filled out nicely.

Momo revenge 16 x 7j
2 yokohama A drive R1 205/50/16
2 Kenda kaiser ( temp replacement for 2 dead A drives) 205/50/16

re: Maruti Ignis : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Update,
have switched back to the stock setup as the 205's were too tight a fit in the front. the culprit seems to be the front shockers, they have a band around them which compromises clearance.
will update this thread once i get 195's.
will miss how epic it looked. oh well.

re: Maruti Ignis : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

I took delivery of my Ignis Zeta MT yesterday and immediately changed the tyres to 195/60/R15 Yoko Earth 1s. However I later realized that these are 5J alloys and the max recommended tyre width is 185 on them. Will this be a hassle ?

I don't think there will be any issue with 195.I am using the same set up from past one year with almost 15k km's done. Its performing great except for tyre noise above 80.

I was trying to find the width of Ignis rims, but could not find it. Would you mind sharing the source of this information?
And are you facing any issues in running 195/60 on the ignis alloys?

Running 195/60 Earth1s. No issues faced till now. Tyres do not rub even at full lock while turning.

The black alloys along with the tyres look too solid for my taste. I was trying to fit a rubber rim lip on them but could not manage because the rim edges curve at some places. Has anyone tried to fit rim lips ? I had those fitted on my Esteem and they looked really well. Attaching a photo for reference.

re: Maruti Ignis : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

I have a 8k kms run Zeta petrol. The noise from the Ecopias is too much for my liking. Also I believe moving from 175 to 185 would bring a little more grip without compromising any other aspects.

If anyone is running on identical setups, please let me know and also how much width can the stock alloys hold without much hassle

You can run 195/60 or 185/65. I would personally run 185/65 because I feel it’s not too wide and will also give you a better ride quality.

Hello shebin/ rdas,
Just for curosity sake, did you people also changed the stepney to above said size? If yes, was the upgraded tyre able to fit the stepney well? Was there any effect of tyre upsize on cars mileage?
Thanks in advance.
