Hi Nikhil I have to change the tyres on my F30 in Mumbai. The options I have received are changing the size from stock 225/55/R16 to 225/60/R16 in Michelin but getting the same stock size in Perfinza.
Would be great to have your opinion or if any other options are available which I'm missing.

Try calling one of the authorized dealers. They may have the size in stock.

Today I changed the stock 50K run Apollo Alnac 195/55 R16 to MRF Perfinza 205/55 R16. Also, I opted for sensairy TPMS. Tyres and fitment costed me RS: 34600. TPMS RS: 7.5K

I am in Hyderabad and I checked with 2 MRF dealers and to my surprise one of then had a 28/20 stock and the other had a 34/21 stock and they say there's no production done in 2022, I am not happy with the manufactured dates so planning to switch to plan b, Continental UC 6 195/60/R15 for my Honda city.

Is it ok to go ahead with a 34/21 at this time?

Mine was manufactured 34/21 too, but I fitted those tyres few months ago. 34/21 is not bad, but get the fresh tyres if possible. There are three types of MRF dealers and I think MRF T&S is the top of their dealer line up. So check with T&S dealers in your city.

Called 2 T&S and 2 exclusive and all have 2021 tyres, seems like I have to either make peace with MFD or go with Continental UC6, I am still biased towards Prefinza, tough decision to make and live with for next 5 years

I'm trying to get the Perfinza's and the dealers in Bangalore seem to have stock which is 34th or 36th week of 2021. That's almost 10-month-old tyres!!

All of them are saying no production of Perfinza in 2022, and they also end up saying that the Perfinza's are fast-moving. This is completely counterintuitive to the claim that no production for a fast-moving product.

At this price point, the Yoko's seem to be the best alternative, but I'm not convinced.

Are 10-month-old Perfinza tyres worth it?

Here is an anecdote. A bit long winded but it involves Perfinzas.

I encountered a bad tyre sidewall cut in early May because of some construction debris on the road, on my Michelin Pilot Sports 4 - 205/55/16 which I’ve been using on my Cooper since Sep 2020.

Since Michelins are generally very hard to come by, especially in rim size 16 because of the GOI embargo on all imported tyres below 17 inch rim size, while putting in a request to Madhu’s for help, I had also made some backup arrangements with my friend from MRF, for a set of 4 Perfinzas in 205/55/16.

Because as per all the feedback I have read as well as recommendations from various friends who use Perfinzas, these are a very worthy replacement for Michelins.

As it happened Madhu’s were able to get me 2 Michelins of the size I needed so I was able to replace my torn tyre and keep the intact old one as an additional spare. In fact when I had bought these Michelins in 2020 there was a tyre insurance scheme for which I had signed up. And this scheme ensured that I got nearly full compensation for the damaged Michelin. Sadly this tyre insurance scheme no longer exists.

In all of this I suddenly found myself the owner of a set of 4 Perfinzas too and in the same size 205/55/16. These were manufactured in week 39 of 2021. And they felt soft and pliant to the touch. I picked them up from Sapthagiri Tyres (special delivery) in Chamrajpet one Saturday morning in May.

I then rang my Dad in Madras and told him I ll give him the Perfinzas and we can change out his Yokohama Earth tyres on his Glanza.

Incidentally the Glanza was bought in 2019 June. And as soon as we bought it we changed the OEM 195/55/16 Apollo Alnacs immediately to Yokohama Earth 1 205/55/16. We got a decent value of Rs 14000 for the Apollos and paid 10000 to get the Yokos. So the Yokos were in great shape having done only 12000kms in 3 years.

So I loaded the brand new Perfinzas into my Gypsy, asked my Dad to drive down to Vellore and meet me halfway so that I could trans-ship the Perfinzas into his car for him to use. We did that and the next day he fitted up the Perfinzas and gave the 4 Yokos to a tyre dealer for Rs. 8000/-.

(Incidentally even my Gypsy runs on Stock OEM Spec F78-15 MRF Estate Cross Ply Nylon Tyres - only MRF and CEAT make this size and type of tyre and generally these are only available in rural markets - so here also my friend from MRF came to my rescue and I picked these tyres up locally (special delivery) in HSR Layout at Grand Tyres)

A couple weeks later he drove down to Bangalore from Madras on his new Perfinzas. And pronounced these tyres of a high quality in terms of feel, pliant ride, greatly reduced road noise, greater grip around sweeping curves and definitely better braking as well, owing to their softer compound and performance oriented tread. He had mentioned the same feedback after driving a few days in the city too.

My first experience with these Perfinzas tyres was last Friday afternoon, when I drove his car on the NICE road to visit IKEA and again when we drove his car for a joyride to Halli Mane Restaurant on the BLR- Hassan Road last Saturday morning for breakfast.

There is absolutely no doubt that these Perfinzas are very very good tyres. They will be a worthy replacement for the Cooper, when my Michelins either wear out or age.

I am really happy that MRF is addressing the softer more pliant performance tyre market in this manner.

So in conclusion, basis my own experience above, I d say don’t stress too much. Get those Perfinzas. They are better than the Yokos.

Thanks Shankar, I'm currently running Michelin Primacy and expect that the new tyres don't take away the Michelin experience. And all feedback so far points to Perfinza being that alternate. Anyway, I guess I have to make peace with the 10-month-old tyres and go ahead with the Perfinza.

To set you further at rest, I am using Michelin Pilot Sports 4 and these are truly lovely tyres in terms of grip and feel and overall pliance and performance on the highways. They inspire huge confidence at higher speeds and in wet conditions and during braking. If they have a fault it is that the softer rubber silicone compound is prone to damage and destruction on our debris filled Indian roads both urban and highway.

Considering the state of the nation at this moment, with GOI having banned all imported tyres of 17 inch rim size and below, if one now wants to go for a high performance soft compound tyre then basis my experience it is only the MRF Perfinzas which fit the bill and which can be considered as a worthy successor to the Michelins.

I have checked this with Mohsin of Madhu’s as well and he echoes this opinion. Apart from him there are several friends of mine using Perfinzas some of them since 2020 and all of them speak highly of the softness, pliant ride, noiselessness, grip, braking performance and drive in wet conditions. I think it is all due to a superior Rubber Silicone compound and good engineering including flexy sidewalls.

Whenever I have to replace the tyres on my Mini Cooper, I shall be replacing them with these Perfinzas - also because by then there will be absolutely nonstock of Michelins available in 16 rim size.

I even checked out the Michelin LTX AT Trail tyres for my Thar. These are lovely tyres indeed and have a very good tread. But when I felt them by hand I found that they were softer and more pliant than my OEM CEAT Czar tyres. I felt that they would be much more damage prone than the Ceats so am holding off on these for now. I think it is fair to say for the majority of use cases and daily applications in India for my Thar, it is best I stick with the tougher compound tyres from our Indian manufacturers.

All the above are my own opinions based on my experiences except where otherwise mentioned.

Shankar thanks once again to explain to me in detail the merits of Perfinza. I echo the same as my previous tyres on the Palio and the Abarth now are Michelins and they are truly superior. If they were still available the decision would've been a no-brainer.

I'm sold on the Perfinza's as I have heard only good things and have mentally pictured the Abarth shod with the Perfinza. So the heart and most of the head are all set. My only concern was the 10-month-old tyres as I have to live with them for at least 5 years (given the current miles that I clock). But I think I've come around to this and will go ahead with the Perfinza.

I've already spoken at Madhus and they are expecting stock next week. So until then, I shall enjoy the Michelins.

My friend first told me about how good these Perfinzas were. He upgraded to these on his Fiat Linea ThunderJet 1.4 litre 90bhp Petrol in 2020 and was very happy with their performance on highways and all.
Fiats are great cars. Well set up. Good weight and heft and feel on the road. They definitely deserve the best shoes available to enjoy them fully.
While it is in a way sad that even a customer who is ready to pay, cannot get access to certain imported performance tyres of certain sizes, owing to this whole Make in India GOI push, one can at least be happy that our domestic manufacturers like MRF are steadily upping their game and giving us good quality substitute options.

After all that dilly-dallying, I went ahead and got the Perfinza's on my Abarth. They were all 3621 manufactured tyres. I had also written to MRF (just like that) to see if they can arrange for 22 tyres. And I got a call from their DM who confirmed my exact requirements and called back to say that the spec that I was looking for i.e the 205/55R16 was not a very fast-moving one and there were no 22 manufactured tyres. He also said he can immediately arrange for the 195/55R16 or the 205/60R16, 2022 manufactured tyres. I wanted the 205, but the 60 profile tyre would've added almost 5% error, which was too much, so I settled for the 21 tyres. I was also pleasantly surprised to hear from the DM that MRF is watching & reading Team-BHP threads and they had picked up the post here about my queries. I'm super impressed that they actually called and genuinely tried to help. They just earned a ton of brownie points.

I also did an 800Km trip that saw all sorts of road conditions and the tyres performed very well. The tyres are quite silent, and offer good grip and handling, almost on par with the Michelins. Happy to have got the Perfinza's on my car and look forward to 3-4 years of a smooth ride.

Can anyone share the full list of Perfinza sizes please? The MRF site doesn't have the option to list all tyres. It's instead trying to match with the make & variant.
