Went to Madhus and they had stocks for both P3ST and P4ST, priced the same. According to them, they had received very good feedback on the P3STs from their customers, and expected the newly launched P4STs to be better. So took the plunge and went for P4STs. This is what I observed after about 1500 Kms:

Noise: Quite silent. My older stock tyres were making a racket above 80Kmph, and the P3STs are very silent. At much higher speeds, I couldn't really make out whether the noise was from the tyres or the wind.

Steering feel: Almost the same. The older tyres had made the steering quite tight. The new tyres brought it back to stock form. Unfortunately, there is no improvement in high speed feedback. The steering still is a little vague at unmentionable speeds.

Ride and handling: Ride is much better. The older tyres were harsh on bridge/concrete joints and potholes, the P4STs are are much much better. The handling seems a little better too.

Dry grip: No change

Wet grip: Excellent. Had to break suddenly once on a slippery downhill slope + curve, and instinctively I expected a skid and the ABS kicking in, but was extremely happy and relieved when neither happened.

Do note that some of the negatives of the stock tyres could have been due to them being older. Especially the steering becoming tighter.

What was the cost for the tyres? I am changing the tires on my verna fluidic soon. Will go for 195/55/16 size. The 195 size already causes lots of water splash on car doors from front tires. Wont upsizing to 205 cause more splash? Also what is the change in fuel efficiency.

It was around 9.3k per tyre. Unfortunately you won't get this in 195/55 R16. I didn't observe any noticeable change in fuel efficiency, but I also didn't check too much in detail to be sure either way.

Regarding more water splash, well, that's a new one . Never thought/observed anything on this.

Just booked a set of 4 PRIMACY_4ST 195/60 R 15 for Rs 26,580 via an e-tailer. Should be getting them fitted tomorrow or day after.
I'm really interested to see/feel exactly how much better are these compared to the 3ST's.

I visited my trusted tire guy today. According to him, P4ST has a reinforced tire side wall, while P3ST has a non reinforced tire side wall. The ride may not be as plush as it is on the P3ST, but it should address the soft sidewall issue of the earlier tire. The rolling resistance is lower at around 9.something according to BS6 norms, which the P3ST also met.

There seems to be some confusion.

The "ST" suffix means it has a stiffer construction. Not just the sidewall but the rest of the tyre too. What is called the "casing".

The Primacy 3 ST, the Pilot Sport 4 ST and now the Primacy 4 ST are all designed to be stronger to deal with the bad conditions of India, China, Indonesia, Thailand and other Asian countries.

Hence, the ride on the P4ST should be as good as the P3ST.

ST suffix in P3ST or P4ST stands for SILENT TUNED.

For lower tyre noise and quieter cabin in comparison to their Energy series XM2.

Doesnt matter what it stands for. It's just marketing-speak.

They arent going to compromise their marketing by saying ST stands for Strong Tyre, now are they?

Energy series are always their entry level brand and everyone knows that the Primacy series will be more premium than the Energy series.

I've changed my tyres from XM2 to Primacy 4ST upon suggestion from Nikhil. Completed close to 5k kms post upgrade. So far, very happy with the tires. No qualms about that.

Hey Binod. I too changed my tyres yesterday to the primacy 4 195/50/R15 with usual 33PSi. The ride was bumpy in bad roads yet quite. I was told to fill 32PSi in general and when the load is full 33PSi.

And the Primacy 4 is definitely a bit harder than the usual Michelin’s.

Michelin is treating this particular size as a complete orphan for some reason. Ever since the stocks of PS3 finished off, this size is missing from their portfolio although there should be many inquiries given that many Jetta/Octy owners upsized to 225/50.

Only available brands seem to be Falken and Continental, neither of which are star performers for this particular use case.

I'm getting the size 225/50/Z R16 in Pilot Sport 3, and in Primacy 3ST too. Although it's not on the site. The price for both is the same about 12500/- a piece after discount.

That is not the perfect size as overall circumference increases and causes speedo error which is otherwise zilch in 50 profile.

So my dealer had confused between the Pilot Sport and Primacy 3. I knew something was fishy, any way I got PS3 yet again, my third set, fourth overall including the factory supplied Goodyears.
My tyre change journey has been:
Original set life > 42000 km
First PS3 life > 40000 km (changed sooner as I bought wider wheels)
Second PS3 life > 45000 km
Third PS3 > Should take me to 175000 km mark. Currently at 125000 km on the odo. I'm hoping the new set lasts at least 50K kms. Tyres start losing grip and I wasn't comfortable post 40000 km life.
I still wish I got the Primacy as I wanted more life out of the tyres and had heard that the Primacy 4 has improved grip in wet. Sole reason for the PS3 was the size, I couldn't downsize for sure as I'm too comfortable with 225/50/16 & it's wetland grip. It's a wicked tyre but tad bit expensive for my aging Octy.
