Tyres that smell (!!!) -- With Lavender Scent

Just saw this on Engadget. Tyres that give out a lavender aroma. I wonder which marketing *genius* thought this up.

Quote:
File under "zomg finally!" -- KUMHO Tires is releasing its ECSTA DX Aroma line of car tires featuring "Lavender Scent Technology," which, to translate for the non-marketers in the house, means they smell. Don't fret if lavender isn't your bag, baby -- the company plans to later introduce models with orange and jasmine aromas (what, no new car scent?). To eradicate that embarassing "plain old tire" smell from your ride, you'll have to part with $119, $125, or $138 per tire depending on your choice of size.

Those coloured smoking tyres were produced by BF Goodrich & the idea faded away pretty fast due to the poor sales which were partly due to high costs. Let's see how far this idea goes since I don't see much appeal for it, after all how many people do burning starts on a daily basis? And secondly how many times has your modern car cabin been filled with smell from the tyres?

This part of your car's been brought to you by L'Oreal...

What's next - rose coolant, chocolate flavoured power steering fluid & engine oil with a hint of green apples?! ?

Really strange... doesn't make scents.

Just what's needed to attract dogs on a street so they can have a gala time marking these tyres with their heavenly aroma

Totally with you. Whats all this lavender rubbish, theres nothing quote like the smell of burning rubber after a spirited driving session. After parking, I actually bend down and smell the rubber (my family thinks I am nuts!!).
