Re: The worst-looking OEM alloy wheels?

As much the design is important, right tyre size is important too. You can have sexy looking alloys but a puny tyre will make it look ugly! Same way a wide tyre with okay'ish alloys will actually standout . I find the alloys in my Crysta too plain, though not ugly/overdone. When I was in Cochin I saw Crysta running stock alloys with probably 225/235 section tyres and and the alloy was given grey paint treatment. The looks, stance of the car had completely changed and looked damn cool.

A look at plain jane stock alloy.

TATA Safari Storme. The most inappropriate alloys I have ever seen on any car, they are an instant turn off on an otherwise good looking car.

Re: The worst-looking OEM alloy wheels?

The most awful OEM alloys I have seen are those of Renault Scala. The tyres seemed puny too for a otherwise large car.

Re: The worst-looking OEM alloy wheels?

I never thought I would say this but honestly speaking and putting it mildly, I don't like the alloys on our Audi Q3. The design is just not impressive and nothing like what Audi offers on it's other cars and even on the facelifted variants of the Q3.

The worst-looking OEM alloy wheels?-unnamed.jpg

It was a compromise we had to make while purchasing the car. The GLA was too small. The X1 F48 had not launched. Q3 was the best in it's class and we went for it.

The silver lining though is that the ride quality is really supple with those 16 inch alloys. The higher sidewall of the tyres has also let us explore the Quattro offroad capabilities of the car without worrying too much about damaging the alloys.

The diamond cut design trend is certainly 'in' right now, but these numbers are just coincidental. Most of the above 10-15L cars offer alloys in that pattern and they are often good-looking too.

What sinks the boat is total lethargy of the designers making them. As a fellow BHPian earlier said, alloys can make or break the look of the car and I agree with it.

Coming to the awful oem designs, the new topper in my list is the Ecosport Thunder Edition.

All blacked out to make it look more sporty? Instead they end up looking like shiny wheel caps. I'm amazed to see how hard Ford is trying to mess up its most popular car.

Surprised that this one's not made it yet.

I don’t think there is any other thread on this issue.
Incidentally, there is a thread: https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/india...-20-lakhs.html (Best OEM Alloys offered in cars <20 lakhs) which has been made by you, sir.

P.S: The Q3 and Ecosport Thunder edition alloys do look like wheelcaps (no offence meant to respective owners).

P.P.S: As has been repeated often on this forum, an alloy can make or break a car’s looks. Just went to the homepage and was surprised to see the “Most timeless cars” thread and this one together! But I guess that’s Team-BHP for you.

Re: The worst-looking OEM alloy wheels?

Looks like eventually only the cars which does not offer alloy wheels at all (like New Santro) will remain absent from this thread

Re: The worst-looking OEM alloy wheels?

“One man's food is another man's poison”.

Alloy design of cars is subjective is what I feel. Yeah there are designs that catch the eye and those that are an eyesore or grotesque.

The abhorrent alloy designs to me are that of the previous gen S-Cross, pre-facelift Baleno Hatch, Tata Harrier, Tata Hexa and the latest gen Ertiga.

Also the latest 2017 Honda city alloy design be it 15’ or 16’ are unsightly as compared to the 2014 version. I have the 2015 version car and apprise the design. It is practical and easier to maintain with character two fold than that of the latest one.

So as said above many on Team BHp find the 2014 Honda city repugnant but to me it is the opposite.

+1 Terrible design and the gloss black makes them look like wheel caps for sure.
Now I have a new found admiration for the S-cross alloys

A design I absolutely hate even on something used as a humble beater!
Completely agree on this one. I really hate these bland looking wheels. The ones on the new Honda City are much better than these.

Re: The worst-looking OEM alloy wheels?

Oh! The 4th Generation Honda city default alloys on V and VX variants!

They were such a disappointment on an otherwise beautiful car!

I beg to disagree with you as the 2017 Honda City, especially the ZX variant uses 16 inch diamond cut alloys made by Enkei in Japan.

I'm sure we all know Enkei's reputation in the wheels industry is far and beyond any of the in house designs as seen in the 2014 City.

I own both variants and I can tell you that the 2014 wheels are truly a sight for sore eyes. In the international market for the same model year Honda had released an aesthetically better design.

I'm attaching the pictures here for reference.
