The government of India is planning to implement 'Star Rating' of tyres. A new Automotive Industry Standard, AIS 142 is being prepared that would evaluate tyres for rolling sound emissions, adhesion on wet surfaces and rolling resistance. The new test track will be used to test tyres according to the new safety standards.

The test facility is expected to enable Apollo Tyres to reduce the time to market its products and reduce the testing costs.
