Re: Tyre upgrade for the 5th-gen Honda City

This is how the 5th Generation City looks on 205 55 R16 Michelin Primacy 4ST:

Should help those wondering how this tyre size would 'sit' with the stock 16" wheels. In my opinion, this size looks perfect on those wheels and in that wheel arch.

Upgrade to 16 inches is not necessary. You will incur double the cost and loss in exchange. I have the V CVT too , the sidewall height is pretty good and doesnt risk a damage unlike 16" alloys. Upgrading the tyres to a better brand should be just fine.

In case you are interested , my recent upgrade on 15 inch with a better set of tyres from Continental CC6 below is the post.

I’m at the tyre shop as I write this. The person here judged the wheel well and said 205/55 will scrape under full load. Can you please help me confirm if you notice any tyre scrapes with this size under heavy load.

Re: Tyre upgrade for the 5th-gen Honda City

Did anybody try the ideal upgrade of 205/50/R16 on Honda 5th Gen ZX CVT? I wish to know if it caused any issues?

Or should the upgrade rather be 205/55/R16 as this is the size that I keep reading on various forums.

Also, is there a mention in any official document/ owner's manual regarding tyre upgrade voiding the warranty?

I swapped the stock tires to Michelin Primacy 4 205/55/R16 and they are perfect IMHO. I haven't driven it with full load, but with 3 fairly heavy big adults and it had no problems at all. It increase the ground clearance by quite a bit and there is still 3 inches or more left in the wheel well so it should be okay. I also love the way it handles, brakes and rides now, not to mention quieter too. I posted pictures in the main Honda city tire change thread, so don't want to repost here.

The stock car is grossly under-tyred.
Will Michelin 205/50/R16 be good?

By no means should you go for 205/50R16. It is a notoriously injury prone tyre size. Yes - the calculations show that it matches the diameter of the stock 185/55R16 tyres (which in themselves are pretty bad). There’s an entire thread dedicated to BHPians’ woes on the 205/50R17s which used to come as stock size on some variants of the eco sport-

https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/tyre-...-r17-size.html (Ford EcoSport Facelift: Tyre bulging issue (R17 size))

Please go for the 195/55R16s or even the slightly taller 205/55R16s even though it increases the diameter by more than the recommended 3% - many BHPians are running with this setup without any issues.

Another downside of 205/50R16 is that it’s an odd size, which means it is hard to come by outside metros and expensive to replace.

For both 195/55R16 and 205/55R16, the options I would recommend are the Continental UC6, Vredestein Ultrac/ Ultrac Vorti and the Yokohama BluEarth AE51

Re: Tyre upgrade for the 5th-gen Honda City

I'm considering buying a Honda City (5th gen) as my next car. The value for money V variant comes with 180/60/15 tyres.

What is the rim width of the V variant, could anyone confirm? Is 5.5J or 6J?

Hello. The V Variant comes on 6Jx15 rims with a 53 mm offset. For future reference, wheel-size.com has a very accurate list of tyre and wheel specifications of all global car models.

So, 205/55R16 should be the size of choice for the Gen5 City in my book.
Hi Shreyans, hows's your car and your experience with the bigger tyres? My 5th Honda City came with stock 185/60 R15 tyres and highspeed stability and cornering is quite under confident. I am looking to upgrade to 205/55 R 15 for better stability with a deviation of .66%

What is the real world impact gonna be in terms of mileage and handling performance?

Re: Tyre upgrade for the 5th-gen Honda City

Mine came with 185/55/r16 tyres. However after reading the lot of posts around the OEM slim tyres getting burst, I got them upgraded to 195/55/r16 Conti UC6 the same day I took the delivery.

Spoke to a nearby tyre shop and got a good deal. Upgrade is within the limits and I'm mentally at peace while driving now. The dealer told me to expect much better grip when at higher speeds and sharp turns, is something I'm yet to explore. Routine rides have been at an avg 50-60 kind of speeds thus far.

Hey Vipul, nice upgrade.
Can you please share pictures with steering fully turned towards left or right. Wanted to check if the tyre is touching the inner fender while turning fully.
Also, please share if it scrapped the fender when the l car gets fully loaded. Anything you noticed which might be a cause of problem.

Re: Tyre upgrade for the 5th-gen Honda City

Hi Guys. Thanks for all the suggestions here. I took the delivery of my Honda City ZX CVT (2022 stock at a fairly good discount) 3 days ago. Been on a short trip of 400KM and concluded that the stock Bridgestone Ecopias are pretty bad. They are noisy and don't inspire much confidence at highway speeds. So went straight to my tyre dealer and swapped them with the Conti UC6 tyres. Also upsized the 185/55 R16s with 195/55 R16s. The difference is night and day. UC6s are much calmer and the grip is commendable. Also, I have noticed a slightly higher sidewall, resulting in a better ground clearance. These should've actually been the stock tyres.

Re: Tyre upgrade for the 5th-gen Honda City

I just got my City V MT delivered and the stock 180-60/15 tyres look bad. No word around that. I'm planning on upgrading my stocks.

1. Option 1 is to change to a 16 inch alloys with 205-50/16. Final Deviation is 1.35 % with a Ground Clearance Change of 4.1 mm. This means I'll have to shell out on the alloys and tyres.

2. Keep the current 15 inch alloys and upgrade just the tyres to 205-55/15. Final Deviation is 0.67 % with a Ground Clearance Change of 2.0 mm. Best option to my pocket.

Inputs appreciated on stability, comfort and fuel efficiency changes.
