Toyota Corolla : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Thread title says it all. Which one to choose ? Don't want to change the size which is 195/60/R15.Cost is not a deciding factor.Comfort and reliability.

1. Bridgestone ER60 (One dealer said these are too soft)
2. XM1+ (heard they are too soft)
3. Yokohama - Dealer is pasting this one. May be more margin.

I have my Spare tyre (RE88) in tact, never used.

1. Can I just buy Three tyres and use the Spare tyre as fourth (On Rear wheels) .Dealer said no problems.Will keep any of old tyres as Spare.
2. or Buy four Tyres and continue with the same spare, use only occasionally.
3. OR Replace all of them.

Does Mixing of these brands or within same brand create any problems, whereas the profile/size is exactly same.

Yoko A-drive R1 are good tyres for the Corolla

Def buy 4 new tyres, use let the spare be as is.

Does profile upsize to 65 make sense on corolla ? ER300 is available in this profile which is coming stock with Altis ? What are pro / con's ?

can i find 205/65 or 215/60 tyres for my 2010 corolla altis. and will they be compatible?

my requirement is a smooth, comfortable drive with minimal tyre noise.

Both the sizes you have listed are inappropriate for the Altis. Most popular (and recommended) upsize is 205/60 R15. Retains the ride quality and, if you get get a good tyre, the dynamics will noticeably improve.

I have an old model Corolla which came with 195/60/15 O.E. size. Now, the ride quality of the car is bad, can an upgrade/change to 195/65/15 help matters or should I stick to size 195/60/15 & opt for better rubber?

You can fit either size on the older Corolla. The 65 profile tyres will give you more ride comfort at the expense of handling behaviour.

What ever you do please dont go in for the BS Potenza RE88...they're very ordinary tyres. Change over to the BS Turanza ER30/ER300s.

Thanks for the advice. Have had poor experience with RE88 but they were tubed, thought maybe tubeless would show improvement.

In size 195/60/15, we get: Turanza ER60

For size 195/65/15, there are Turanza ER30, ER300 & B250.

Now don't know the basic difference between these tyres & which one would suit best keeping in mind ride comfort!

Per the tyre experts here, the Turanza ER300 is a more 'advanced' version of the ER30. I'd recommend the ER60 for the older Corolla. Stay away from the B250s.

I had the ER300 on my Altis (OEM) and they were good. I changed over to Michelin Primacy LC after 2 of my tyres' sidewalls were cut by a rock back in March this year. What a difference the Michelins make! Seriously..silence is golden but it comes at a premium of about 12-15% over comparative models from other tyre manufacturers.

Why dont you take a look at Continental CPC2?

Guys even I have a 06 corolla,the car has run 55k.The OEM potenzas have worn away now.Which tires from yokohama would you all suggest?A drives or S drives.Im not going in for ES100s as the car is mostly used by my grandparents.Please help.Thanks for you replies in advance.

Get either Turanza ER60 or Yokohama DB series V550.

Both are equally good. Turanza is a bit more robust to take on the bad roads.

R2D2, on reading various suggestions, Im inclined towards ER60. Could I know the price of ER60 in profile: 195/60/15?

Primacy LC will be avoided because road conditions are not good & a soft side wall won't help.

CPC2 are biased towards wet handling, the conditions usually remain dry for most part of the year, leaving the 2 monsoon months.

Thanks KP, I got a similar quote of 4.3k/- from local dealer. Availability is a concern though, will have to source it from nearby places.

Another issue, one of the alloys(O.E.) is bent, don't know how that happened. Is this correctable? Also, initially when I got Balancing done, Toyota mech. inserted weights to the side of the tyre from outside, this caused Alloy surface to get chipped. This was done because the dealership was out of stock of stickable weights. Would air leak from the chipped surfaces?
