Mini Countryman booked, need help with tyre choices

Hello all,

Finally after much deliberation I have locked and booked the new Mini Countryman jcw and delivery is expected in 2 weeks. Now while the car is perfect for my needs, I would like to escape the nightmare of run flats and just change to normal tubeless plus new all black alloys on day 1.

99% of my drive will be in mumbai with tyre repair guys at a short distances! Plus India spec mini also has a spare tire space so I will buy 5 tyres. Please suggest if this is the right call and if yes which tyre (size, brand, spec) do you suggest. My focus is comfort without giving away any handling or grip. Looking forward

Hi Amit, if you really want members to answer you'll need to provide some context such as the current specs and brand of the OEM. tyre. Not everyone has the Mini Countryman tyre specs memorized.

No wonder there no replies on this thread, even though it has accumulated 400 views.

Fair point. However, my car hasn't arrived yet and the dealership doesn't know which tyre will come on the car. The spec sheet says - 18 inch JCW Grip Spoke with runflat tyres. That is all I know. Apologies if I posted too early.

Hi Amit, Nothing is too early when planning for a new car .

Your variant will probably have 225/50/18 as per this review:
https://www.overdrive.in/reviews/202...d-test-review/

This is an odd size and Michelin India doesn't seem to have this in their range. Better push the dealer to provide the exact specs so you can start looking.

I was trying to find my older posts here or in some group, can't recollect. Your worries are genuine and in the past, Mini have used on 17inches Hankook run-flats which are useless.

I got mine with 17 Inch- 215/45R17 which I changed in PS4 but found it too loud. Had to change to Primacy4 for more comfort. My local tyre guy was helpful and paid a fair price for the RFT that came along. Apparently, there's a high demand for the OE RFT as many people want to stick.

Your's will be 205x40x18, Pirelli or Goodyear, you can change it with something from Michelin. This is a odd size, check this person- 9971099239 - Karan. I have got tyres and rims on multiple times and also many other members have used him. I plan to add him on the directory.

There is also a shortage of RFT's in the open market ..at least a few months ago. When I went to replace tyres for the Cooper S, I switched to Primacy4. Big difference for the better. One RFT had bare 5000km one and another was half worn. I sold them to my neighbour before I left the tyre shop for 10k, the lot!

Re: Mini Countryman booked, need help with tyre choices

I have a Mini Cooper Countryman, although previous generation. After 5 years of usage, I changes from the RFT s to Michelin Primacy 4 ST last year.

The ride on the RFT s was too harsh and I was expecting a substantially smoother effect after reading all the reviews. However, personally I have not felt a big change, may be just about a 20% increase in smoothness on daily usage.
I feel I was expecting much more by changing it.

My usage is only inside the city so I didn't go for a space saver or full tyre and stuck to the 4 pieces. My generation does not have a place for an extra tyre in the trunk. The new generation might have.
