Re: Tata Safari : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Guys a Quick Question-

Can we use a 245/70 R16 tire on the stock Alloys of the Storme without any issues?

Navpreet - not much diff between 235 ( stock) and 245. Width wise, not a problem.

Ideally, the stock rim may be a little narrow than recommended width for 245 section tyres.

Re: Tata Safari : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Great!

So I've narrowed down the Goodyear Wrangler AT/SA in 245/70 R16.

Hopefully should be a good tire. The tread design is different than the ones in 17 inch sizes though. It does not have the middle Rib.
Another point that I found out was that the same tire has Kevlar lining in the USA and not elsewhere.

Re: Tata Safari : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

I upgraded to the 245/70 R16 Yokohama Goelandar G015 tires.

The tires are good. Both on and off-road.
Had a massive puncture a few days back when a metal strip cut the tire and it completely deflated while doing some spirited driving on some very winding roads.
I have to give an applause for the engineers at Tata who have made such a superb handling SUV. Not once did I loose control and infact had to swerve a couple of times to confirm that it was indeed a full puncture.
What a car this one is!

Re: Tata Safari : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Recently I did a exercise on the stock steel wheels of my 2014 Safari storme, which thought to share here. Though its a pure cosmetic DIY, but I am reasonably happy with what the result came out at the end.

Mine is a strome EX model which comes with normal steel wheels and with aging its one heck of a sore point in the overall looks of the beast. But, most of the aftermarket alloys come with substantial negative offset, which I don't like on the strome ( but looks good on the Dicor, IMO) and if you need to buy the OEM alloys from TATA dealerships, they are insanely costly, in comparison of their simple design and looks.

So, was thinking to give the stock steel wheels a bit if jazz, with the chrome paint bought from Amazon at Rs 300.

After the spray painting, the results came out, looking like a pseudo alloy :

Re: Tata Safari : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Need some help/suggestions, yesterday changed all 4 tyres on the car and after alignment the steering is tilted towards the left slightly.

The tyre shop now says that this is due to steering play and to check with Tata ASC to tighten rack to reduce play.

Tyres are stock size .. 235/70 R16

Any suggestions

Where did you get the tyres ? And where do you get your alignment normally done ?

You can get the alignment done again at a good shop.

Thankfully the steering wheel mis-alignment was rectified at New Bharat Tyres, Trivandrum. This was rectified by aligning settings for "Toe" while the shop where tyres were changed only aligned the "Camber" and "Caster" settings.

Bridgestone Duellers (86500 Kms) were replaced with MRF Wanderers (mfg date on tyres- 0721) in stock size.

Total Cost = Rs 27536

4 tyres x Rs 6500 = Rs 26000/-
Initial Alignment - Rs 600/-
4 valves x Rs 50 = Rs 200
Steering mis-alignment rectificatio - Rs 736

Re: Tata Harrier & Safari | Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

My 2015 Safari Storme 4X2 needs tyre change. Should I go for AT or HT ? Any particular brand that is value for money? Factory fitted tyres are Bridgestone Dueler H/T and have run for 48k KMs.
I am not sure how long I will keep the car and hence i do not want to invest more than what's needed.

I am getting Goodyear H/T at 6600/tyre and A/T at 7200. Is this a good option? I can leave the spare wheel as is right i.e.the 7 yr old tyre?

I have used Michelin Latitude and Yoko Geolandar G015. Take either of these. Conti is also popular.

Since you plan to sell it, not really a question in this situation. Check prices of these compared to Bridgestone/Goodyear. See which one you want to get. I have given my suggestion above.

Spare should not be sitting there, but instead be used as part of a 5 tyre rotation. The rubber would have got hard now, and hence more prone to damage.

If I am correct, this would be your first change ? If yes, keep the spare. Normally I would have said to use the best of the other 4 as spare and phase out the old spare.

Thanks for the quick reply and the suggestions.

The Yoko option you suggested is A/T. So should I prefer AT now to replace the factory fitted H/T?

Though I asked the service center to rotate the spare wheel, i think they have never done that. This means the spare wheel is old but with full treads. This should still be OK right to keep this as spare?
