JK,

I remember reading somewhere that 235s are fine with as much as 7 to 7.5J though typically people tend to match their tyres to their alloys.

Finally, Switched to NEXEN 235 Roadian AT II tyres. Costed 5500Rs with Tubes.
I was opting for Michelin or Yoko. when i suddenly saw the tyre, asked a bit about it from shopkeeper and straightly decided to try it. The sidewall letter's are already WHITE. I am going for Kumbh trip and let's see, What NEXEN have made??

You seem to be the first to try out this brand. Keep us posted on how they perform! Surely quite cheaper than the Michelin/Yokos.

Cheers,
Adi

Hearing for the first time- looks like it is a Korean brand. Their parent site didn't open in Firefox, however, USA site has some info:

products : Nexen Tires

Anyone having info about its dealers in Pune and also about "tubeless" range for R16 (and R13)?

Finally its almost time to change my tires at 43k kms. The OE Bridgestone Ht's have just about 20% tread left in them... and a lot of cuts and punctures.
I have been looking around for tires in Mumbai and this is what ive found.
Stock size 235/70 R16
JK ELanza > 4900 > tread design looks good and dealer says its a high mile tire with no great features.
Yokohama A/T > 6400
Michelin A/T > 6800
The dealer days that the A/T tires start acting noisy after 10-15k kms.

Now here are 2 more options from an unheard of brand;
Marangoni - Maxo > 5400 > Italian tire > Dealer is offering full replacement GUARANTEE for 3 years against any cuts/damage/ explosion due to glass, blades, knives or any damage to sidewalls. It will be mentioned on the bill.
The tire looks like a soft compound tire.
Here is the link : Marangoni Group. MAXÒ

Achiles > Some Indonesian tire company > its a 255/70/R16.
Will this oversize tire fit ? and will it foul with the insides of the mudguards ?
I dont want to make any modifications to the vehicle.

Please advise.

Hi Jay
Jk Elanzo is one horrendous tire. Do look up my review. If you are using it on good roads its fine, otherwise, it will be nothing but trouble. BTW it costed 3700 a year back or so.
As for A/T tires, I am very happy with continental cross contact AT. They have done 20,000+ on real bad terrains, and are still going mostly good. Of course there is chipping and damage here and there, but no serious bulges etc., They can handle tough usage like yours very well.
Due to their non bulging sidewall they are good for rocks etc., but a little problematic in show.

Regaring 255/70, stay away. It will make the diameter much bigger. Correct upsize is 255/60 as opposed to 235/65 for the stock tire

I suggest you stick to stock size only for best results.

Jay; stay with stock size as you off road a lot IMHO.

Guys I have done 42 K on my stock tires. I have noticed that the back tires are balding faster then the front tires. WHY IS IT SO? IS THIS NORMAL? Planning to get the tires rotated.

Yup. So I am guilty.

Guess a simple rotation will do? The tires are still good for another 5 to 8 k.

A small question just out of curiosity ,
A little search on this forum throws few old posts ( some 4 years old) where people recommend bridgestone HT as an upgrade to stock (At that time they were not stock on Safari)

Today when Bridgestone HT are stock on Safari a common factor in recommendation is that it is something else which is not Bridgestone.

So is it just that something other then OEM may be better thing, or did any changes in bridgestone ?

I am not looking for any Tyre change as of now but just educating myself no offence meant to anyone here.

I play it safe - I rotate every 10k kms; this vehicle is too darn heavy & 15k kms is too long an interval IMHO

Amit, the Bridgestone stock H/Ts are good tyres but these days people are leaning more towards the A/Ts; the 'Stones do not have an A/T option in 16 inchers. I guess that's why you see so many non-'Stone recommendations.

4 years ago, not too many were opting for A/Ts (those opting for them were still going the non-'Stone route).
