Hi Everyone,

I have a safari Dicor 3.0 and its time for its tyre change. If any of you guys would like to sell your OEM B/Stone tyres for exchanging it with other brands please let me know. I am in Coimbatore,TN.

Thanks

I have ordered a set of 5 Yokohama Geolander AT tires for 5800 each, to be fixed on Monday. Is it a good deal ?
I should be getting about 1000 per tire for the old shoes in exchange.

I also saw the Michelin latitude Cross at 6900 a piece. The tread design is good but the sidewalls were too soft for my liking and more expensive too.

The old OEM tires have run 43.5k kms. However the dealer has said that the 1k /tire as promised will decrease if he finds cuts. I hope he has sore eyes on Mon.
It also includes free rim service(must be cleaning i guess), wheel alignment and wheel balancing. I shall have to pay for any extra weights.

Jay,

Is 5800 the price after taking into account 1000 for the old tyres or will your net cost be ~4800? When I checked last, the Yokos were in the higher 6000s and the cheapest decent brand were the Hankooks for 5900.

Good choice of tyres btw. Had taken my Safari off-road over the weekend into places I personally never thought I'd go with the heavy weight and long wheelbase but it did pretty good. Yokos took the thorny sections pretty well though had to spend 15 mins pulling off all the thorns from the tyres after reaching civilization!

The 5800 excludes the exchange cost. Post exchange it should cost me 4800/tire.
I did enquire with many dealers and all quoted 6300 and above.

Maybe he is giving me OLD STOCK !! But since Yokos arent very old in India, maybe the OLD STOCK too maybe not very old. Will let you all know the final outcome of the deal anyways.

For my usage i need a tire with good sidewalls. Apart from the Yoko's its BFG. But BFG is hard to find in Bombay and I can do without the tire noise as reported by ADC.
Yokos come across as jack of all trades.

Will post my feedback after I dirty my shoes.

Cheers,

Jay

That's a very good deal for Yokos, check date of manufacture and condition of tires, if all is good then I must say you have an excellent deal on your hands. Happy driving.

I liked Michellin or yoko for Safari for normal use. For serious offroading I guess continetal or something similar will do the needful.

I have completed 4000km in 7 months with Michelin AT tyres. They are very good!! I have driven them in extreme jungles and mud roads. My drivers have crossed 130+ kmph very easily in 4 lane highways and vehicle is very well planted on the road!

I am getting good FE too! 15 inch michelin types 7 months back I have paid around 5500/- INR per tyre including fitting/balancing etc.. Considering that for 16 inch tyre 5800/- is good deal since yoko and michelin won't make much difference I feel! and Michelin is always on the higher side and it is worth for the money!

Regards,

Ravi.

Ok friends !!

Got 5 new tires. Yokohama AT/S. 235/70 R16.
1 tire = feb 2010 and 4 tires March 2010 manufactured.

Rs.5860/tire.
Got only 2k for the five old tires. They were in terrible condition. 2 tires had big patches inside and the other 2 were terribly cut. One tire was with a cut, bubble and multiple punctures.
Alignment & balancing free. Weights cost 350/- and 500/- for 5 new triton valves.

Total damage = 28100/-

Will post pics of the old and new tires tomm.

Thanks everyone for their advice and inputs.

Regards,

Jay

Congrats Jay, happy motoring on new shoes, well 2k for old tires is realistic, was surprised you were offered 1k per tire earlier, please post pics of the triton valves as well.

Well the dealer would have offered me 1k per tire. But when he took them off the rims and showed me the damages, cuts, bubbles, punctures and patches, i agreed that 2k was probably realistic for all of them.

I dont have pictures of the triton valves. it looks like the regular valve of a tubeless tire. Dealer said they have a copper seat blah blah and are better than the usual and more reliable..

Looking for new tyres,

Hi Guys, Good work Jay.

What amazed me is that, they pay some money for the old tyres, I am looking for a very good deal around Coimbatore and the price they offered me so far are not soo good. My brother works in Bangalore and the price difference is around Rs700 less even for Bridgestone.

Coimbatore Bridgestone 235/70R16 : 6300 from main Dealer
Bangalore Bridgestone 235/70 R 16 :5500 from some tyre shop.

Also they are ready to offer me 300/tyre for old ones.

Yoko,Michelin, Continental are all the same story. I am planning to ask my brother to purchase and send the tyre through some transport company.

YOKOHAMA geolander AT/S REVIEW.

Drove about 100 kms on the new Yokos on Mumbai tarmac = almost offroad.

Immediate noticeable difference compared to the OEM Bridgestones.

Seemingly better grip with somewhat EXTREME handling.
Almost no tire noise in comparision to the bridgestones at 30psi at all speeds.
Ride is SOFT in comparision. maybe because of the 9mm tread on the new tires.
Braking has improved noticeably.

Will post the offroad review after a OTR session.
