I would suggest you go for Michelins.
I feel Bridgestones are not really made for India.

Which are more comfortable xm1 or a drives ?
How wide can i go on the stock rims ?

I may not vouch for Michelin, I have XM1 s on my WagonR and our Baleno.There is no doubt that ride and grip is ecellent but in my WagonR it started wearing out so fast (as early as 6K kmts). Still struggling with Michelin to get the warranty. I have done only 15K kmts since I changed the tyres it will be good for another 5K kmts max. But 20K kmts is too short.

There's not much to choose between the two. Both are equally good.
165 is the max i would suggest on stock rims. 155 would be a safer bet. IMO

Depends on lots of things.
Even then a set of XM1 should last a minimum of 30k kms in indian condition.

I agree with most here.
I changed my MRF ZVTS at 3000 Kms,and got Rs.900 per tyre.My car is now 14,500 Kms old,and with the Michelin shoes,driving is very much a pleasure,braking is confident,speeding is damn easy(rolling resistance of Michelins are the least! -kpzen can confirm please).

Cooldude dude,decide first whether you want performance or comfort.Michelin XM1 was Rs 2350 each IIRC,so it might well be within your budget.

After covering 53k Km, one of the tyres of my WagonR ended life yesterday. I noticed that the tyre got damaged, while 2 others were considerably weared!

This resulted in a very quick decision to go for new tyres. This time it was tubeless. I had a passion of alloy wheels for quite sometime and was waiting for a chance to go for it. Here came the time with justification to go for alloy.

I quickly researched on the options browsing various posts in this forum and calculated for possible upsizing along with their effects. I finally zeroed on Michelin 155/65/R13 tubeless and Aura D6350, 13"x5" 100 PCD, normal finish.

I picked up Aura wheels from Aura distributor, MV Enterprise, at Kalasipalyam, at 14800.00 for 5 wheels (they do sell single wheel, if requested for) and got the tyres from Saiyengar, lalbagh road, as being referred to by wheel vendor. Millivision offered 2550.00 for each tyre with balancing, alignment, fitment cost of 500.00 as extra for all 5 wheels, while Saiyengar offered 2600.00 for each tyre including fitment.

It was my fault that I did not make things clear with them about the tyre price. They charged me around 15k+ for 5 tyres! They took 500.00 additional for balancing, though alignment and nitro-filling were free, while added 12.5%, in the name of VAT, over 13000.00 (2600.00 x 5) during billing, escalating the overall 15k (3000.00 per tyre overall).

I am very happy on how my non-human family member is looking like; but pretty unhappy on how the tyre deal went. I did not really understand tyre vendor's price jugglery, before taking it! I am pretty sure that when a price is quoted for something, it includes VAT, as in case of Aura alloy wheels and tyres from Millivision.


I will call up these wheel and tyre guys and ask for clarification (of course, without any expectation for refund). However, the wheels look pretty good and tyres are perfect for quiet and comfortable ride.

My bridgestones are also ready for replacement, which will be the best? i will be keeping the stock steel rims, but would love tubeless, is it possible and for how much?
The grip levels should increase, the FE should not decrease much, should handle high speeds (excess or 140 kmph) nicely.
I really dont know much about tyres, so all help will be useful.

The Michelin XM1s of my WangoR are still having very good thread even after 26000 kms. The grip is simply great both in wet and dry. They would definitely come for another 10k km easily before replacement needed.

Well, the first choice could be Michelin XM1 155/65 (going for 165/65 is not recommended as it may touch car body on shocks or sharp turning). Michelin provides quieter ride with excellent road grip.

Second choice, difference is marginal though, could be bridgestone Potenza GIII 165/60 with slightest error in odo/speedo (OEM is 145/70 ie. 145x.7=101.5 while 155/65 is 100.75 and 165/60 is 99). Bridgestone potenza GIII is known for sporty drive and a tougher tyre. 165/60 will provide a very wide look and may be projected out from the car body (some people like that as it adds a sporty look).

To my understanding, Michelin is for comfort and quiet; so, I went for them. Slight upsizing like this will not increase any sensible FE. I went for alloys, known to be lighter and stronger, simultaneously and expecting a better FE. Simple rule - the wider the tyres, the more stable the car is, with little compromise on fuel average.

Please double check with real cost (cost to buyer) and any hidden cost before taking them.
