Want to upgrade my Mercedes E-Class LWB wheels from 17" to 18" size

Hi Guys,
Was hoping to get some direction on :

1. Rim + Tyre options for a 2019 E220d LWB in black as I find the stock rims and 17" a bit too small. Want something unique and mean, but in a low key kind of way. Was thinking of black rims but thats as far as ive gotten! Any recommendations on size/tyre combos would be much welcomed!

2. Garages / Leads to order and install the above in Bangalore- which are the best places both in terms of knowledge as well as price and honesty in Bangalore to order the install the package for me

Thanks!

Re: Want to upgrade my Mercedes E-Class LWB wheels from 17" to 18" size

This is coming from a German car owner who goes on a lot of road-trips, so trust me on this = Stick with your 17" size. Within 17" itself, you can swap out your alloys for a better design (or paint your existing ones black), and get fatter tyres.

Do NOT change them to 18" or 19".

- Sole benefit = good looks

- But you will crack your wheels on road-trips

- You will damage your tyres

- Your ride quality will become noticeably firmer

- I spend 10 grand a year just repairing my cracked rims

- Bought an extra set of 4 rims from OLX as I intend to keep my 10-year old 530d for a few more years, and I cannot repair the existing rims beyond a certain number of times. They lose their structural strength.

- Your replacement tyres in 18" size will be more expensive.

Don't worry, be happy, stick with 17s . I would've moved to 17s, but am not sure if there is clearance for brakes and more importantly, I need 275 mm tyres at the rear due to the 650 Nm of torque.

Thanks for this. So you recommend keeping on 17"- can recommend a good rim + tyre spot to get new ones? I want to change them to black for sure. Also reg thicker tyres, what size would you recommend?

Re: Want to upgrade my Mercedes E-Class LWB wheels from 17" to 18" size

A while back I literally saw a black 2019 E220D on a used car portal sporting after market potentially AMG replicas and they looked pretty decent (barring the red stripe):

Regarding size: As GTO pointed out - upsizing to 18" with to lower profile tyres will just corrode the ride, with higher risk of damage (The 18" are around 10% lower sidewall height compared to the 17").
If you're a careful driver who slows down for potholes and the like, you should be fine (I managed with 18s on the F30 3 series); otherwise it would be an added expense everytime it sees some damage + replicas will not have the same quality as OEM alloys.

As an option, you could consider an off size like 235/50R18 though there will be limited options in that size; it could be expensive; it could void warranty; and being a little bigger than the stock tyres (overall diameter), it could foul with the wheel wells on a full load when tackling speed breakers, etc.
But these would meet your under-tyred look requirement, and not be as prone to damage as a lower profile (225/50R18, 245/45R18, etc.).

Hi Nirav, upsizing your wheels is purely a heart over head decision. It will completely transform the way your car looks. I'm leaving a few pictures of wheels on the W213 that look good IMO.

Honestly, on a German car most BBS wheels look good!

As for places to install, I've heard Madhus Tyre Centre is the best place to get tyres in Bangalore
