Since the beginning of this year, I have been looking for a car in the 15-18L price bracket to replace our 2018 petrol verna. The fuel economy is too low and the car is not too great for highways.
I don't really care about any features. If the car is good to drive, everything else becomes secondary.
Besides that I needed a huge boot for work so a pickup seemed the most sensible.
Comfort was not a priority as we already have two honda cities (we love the city and have owned every edition except the 3rd gen), an Innova Crysta and a Mercedes C200 for city drives and highway trips.
The Hilander was initially out of my budget (22L on the road) but I still went and checked it out.
The SA mentioned a 5L discount on a 2022 manufactured hilander. I managed to get another 90,000 off. And with a little more discount on the insurance, the final amount came down to 16L on the road. Booked it instantly and took delivery within a week.
The truck is quite barebones and didn't come with a lot.
So far I've added the following
1. Pioneer z5290bt head unit - A small 6.5 inch screen with Android Auto/Carplay and provision for a reverse camera. Truck came with 4 speakers, we added 2 more basic speakers.
2. Basic reverse camera - It didn't need one as parking sensors are more than enough but my father finds it important as he doesn't trust our drivers to reverse carefully without one.
3. Seat and Steering covers
4. Led light bulbs 4200K - The original lights were too weak for highway runs.
5. Door visors
Going to add the following within this week from Bimbra 4x4 in Gurgaon
1. Bedliner
2. Tri fold bed cover
3. Hamer Roll Bar
4. OEM fog lamps
Besides this I'm looking to upgrade the wheels to make the truck look a little muscular.
The current size is 245/70/r16 111S on basic steel rims.
This is where I'm confused and need your help. I don't know much about tyres.
I like how 265 section tyres look on the truck on offroad steel rims but I'm not sure about the consequences of changing these.
My requirements
1. Truck must be able to do long highway trips with a fully loaded bed. 111 load rating is nice, I don't want to compromise on that. Speed rating can be improved if needed.
2. I do not want to make it too noisy or too bumpy
3. No offroad at all. Maybe road trips to Ladakh/Spiti which should be fine on highway tyres.
All I want is the Truck to look aesthetically muscular and retain most of its dynamics.
(I've attached pictures of the truck straight out of the showroom with no modifications. I don't like it's stance and want it to look a little more butch)
Update:
Got negative offset steel rims and yokohama geolandar g015 AT tyres (265/65/17 112H)
I would've preferred highway tyres but apparently there are none in this size.
The dealer assures me that these are relatively silent but they will affect the fuel economy.
Congratulations on the purchase, great color too. Quick question, where did you purchase pioneer 5290 from and what's the ongoing cost?, can't seem to find this anywhere in Delhi.

265 width tyres should be absolutely fine. If these are A/T then expect a little more road noise than H/T spec tyres. FE will drop a bit, and turns may need that teeny little more effort. If the tyres jut out of the sides, then a little more reduction in FE will happen, + a little more noise.
A/T tyres should be hardier than H/T tyres.
Remember that 16" tyres are less expensive than 17". So if you are cost conscious, then you can continue with the current rims and upgrade just the tyres. Else it would 17" rims + 17" tyres (again, add a little more to the price of tyres as compared to 16".
Speed ratings are not an issue, since even the regular tyres are rated to take more than regular high-way speeds.
Hope this helps.

16L OTR is an awesome price for that

Thank you! This was the only color in stock at that time. Although I don't mind the colors but this does look nice.
I bought the pioneer head unit from Accessories the Shoppe in Palika Bhawan car market, New Delhi. It costed me about 19000. They had other pioneer and sony models in stock.
I just like hard buttons more than those capacitive buttons. That's why I chose 5290

Thank you so much for this information. Do you think a stick-on plastic fender accessory would help with the noise and fuel economy?
The 265 tyres seem to jut out, just a little bit.
I chose the yokohama g015 tyre which was the most highway biased AT tyre according to the dealer

If you can get something specifically designed for the V-Cross then you can try that.

search for images of Modified V-Cross.
I have been using G015 A/T on my Storme - moving into my second set after 54k (the tread is still good, though one puncture gave up and hence had to start the change process).
Hi brother!! I have the same Isuzu Hi Lander in dark grey colour purchased last month after getting the March discount benefits. I have added following accessories so far-
1. Bed liner
2. Tri-fold cover for the deck
3. Head unit from Mega Audio
4. Additional speakers in the rear doors
5. Seat covers in Malaysian leather
6. Door visors
Planning to add following in this week-
1. Roll bar
2. Tyre upgrade (may be alloys too)
2. Dash cam
3. Sun control film on the front windshield only
Could you please post some picture of your steel rims with the Yokohama 265s. I am also planning to go for Yokohama but just not sure if I would want to change my rims too.

Hi
Great upgrades. Congrats on the new car.
I would not recommend changing to offroad steel rims. They look great but they're not the most stable riding rims. The car just shudders after 80kph despite proper wheel balancing and alignment.
They touch the metal parts of the body as well so it's always making some noise or the other.
I made a mistake
Let me share some pictures with you
