Responding to an earlier post on tyre choices for 15" rims:
- Yokohama AVS db's are silent. However, note that they're asymmetrical
- Yokohama C drives offer an excellent blend of silence, dry/wet grip and durability in addition to being symmetrical. However, globally they're being replace with C-Drive II's and the writing is on the wall for this model in India.
- Yokohama Earth 1 tyres are positioned between the A and C drives. They carry over many of the benefits of the C drives with hardier sidewalls well-suited to what-pass-for-roads in Bangalore in addition to highway drives

I recently moved from 195x65x15's to 205x65x15's for my Laura. My first choice was the C-drives. I also had the Michelin P3 ST's on my shortlist, but was leery about their durability given my driving pattern.

Given that I drive over an equal mix of bad roads and highways, my dealer convinced me to go for the Earth 1. After about 1000 km's over the past week on (dry) highways and Bangalore traffic, I feel that the Earth-1 has been a very good buy. I highly recommend it.

Fitted Bridgestone Turanza AR 10, 205 65 R15 on my civic yesterday. Costed about Rs. 6350/unit. Car has been running just fine!

Also it turns out that ER 60 and ER300 are essentially the same tyre. The nomenclature differs based on the country of origin of the specific unit. This was communicated by the creator of www.changemytyres.com and i have not checked its veracity elsewhere.

After going through multiple threads in Team BHP and few other websites, I had gone for Michelin XM2, 205/65/R15 for my Civic one year back. It costed me a total of Rs. 25,000 (for 4 tyres including Wheel Balancing and Alignment).

Immediately after getting the tyres, I could feel a reduction in road noise. These tyres are also supposed to have lower rolling resistance and I could feel a difference there as well.

My Continental CPC are pretty close to running out under 30K. Dunno if its the bad roads in my area or because of my driving. :P

So given the bad roads in my area (which is worse than the bad roads in Bangalore) what is the suggestion. Had 205/65/R15 and likely to stick to that size.

Questions:

What is the experts suggestion given bad roads?
Shops in Bangalore that I can buy from also appreciated.
What about unidirectional tyres? Worth the try?

I upgraded to the unidirectional Yoko db550 in 205/65/15 and it has been absolutely worth it.

I have my share of bad roads and bumps, but not even a single puncture in nearly 10,000 km of driving.

The ride quality and noise levels have also improved significantly. Would definitely recommend

Just replaced & upgraded my 40K old Bridgestone Tyres to 205/65/15 Michelin Energy XM2 from B. K. Tyres, Lajpat Nagar (after forum's much reco) for 26.5K for all four including Rs.300/- cash back for old tyres with nitrogen & balancing included.
Overall a brilliant experience at the Tyre shop.
So far the drivability feels a lot better.

yes, 225/45 R17. With 50 profile, the circumference difference should be around 4% which is well pass the 2% threshold upsize recommendation. In any case, with 50 profile, it would be a tight fit in the wheel wells too and certainly would scratch the top wheel arch. If you have 17", there is no other option than 45 profile.

I finally changed to Yoko C Drive at Madhus Enterprise. 24K for 4 of them. Road noise is very less. Need to check my brakes though. Being an automatic am sure my disc is gone bad..

I am looking to change tyres in my Civic. I have Primacy LCs that have done 43k. They are very silent compared to Turanza on a friend's Civic or A drives on my other car. PLCs have given no major issues so far, my drives are 90% on tarmac. I am leaning towards Michelin with an upsize (195 to 205). P3ST seems the equivalent for what I have. But they don't come in 205. In that size, my choices are XM2, Earth/C drive or Turanza. I understand that XM2 and Earth are a notch below 3ST, C drives perhaps at par.

Is the 205 upsize that significant not to choose 3ST? I am OK with 195. So, the choice for me are:

1. P3ST in 195*65
2. XM2/Earth1 in 205*65
3. C drive in 205*65
4. Any other?

Kindly advise. Do @iraghava @nikhil stroll on these grounds these days?

205 is a good upgrade. Gives better ground clearance and my personal opinion bit more stability. I liked the C Drive. Good grip and quiet. I had the Continental CPC before. Though they were good, but they wore out fast, atleast for me.

If ground clearance is a major issue, stick to 205/65-15 in Earth 1 or XM2. Both are good. Pick one based on your preference.

C Drive is also good but a little soft.

P3ST would be the best overall but not suitable if you dont want 195/64-15.

Thanks Nikhilb. I have finalized on P3ST 195s. The quote is 6100 (while XM2 is 6300; Earth is 5600 both for 205*65 profiles). P3ST slots right in between, is a better tyre than both and the right replacement for my current PLC.

Any comments on the price offered? 30.5k for 5 tyres, with balancing, alignment, nitrogen free.
