Avoid goodyear... there are lot better options available for the price. Look for Michelin Pilot Sport/Precedas. Much better tyres. However the ride is going to be really harsh if you put 17" rims.

the michelins he quoted was about 8.5k per tyre compared to the 5.5k of the good years and so the difference is a little too much, and i know the ride quality will be quite harsh but then in 16" theres alot of availability issues of the tyres as well as rims because the price diffence between 16" n 17" upgrades is almost nothing thats why demand is much more for 17"..also will i have problems if the car is loaded with say 4 people will the tyres touch the arches?

Do you need to check offset even if you keep the rims the same and upsize only the tyres? I am planning to do this so do I need to look at this too? Complete newbie here.

no you do not. just make sure that the tyre is not too wide for the rim.

@ nos_nitrous - Don't go for 17". Indian roads are not suitable for 17s. Get 16s instead.

exactly personally i wanted to upgrade to 16" but there is hardly any choice available in bangalore for 16" for the rims as well as tyres..and supposedly there are many civics which have 17" put on them and theyre running fine..im going today to check out one of them.

Nos - These are the correct upsizes for a Civic:

205/55-16
215/55-16
225/50-16
205/50-17
215/50-17
225/45-17

The last size is apparently quite a hit with Civic owners moving on to bigger wheels.

As for the GSD3's, well they are ok tyres, nothing special and there are better tyres available out there. But, they are cheap (grey imports) & quite good VFM so the average consumer prefers them. If you're on a strict budget go for them otherwise see options from other companies.

But shuvd, I think upgrading from 15s to 17s will decrease the FE of the car. If its OK with you then surely i suggest 17s for your car.

hey i had another doubt...when changing frm stock 195/65/R15s to 225/45/R17s wont there be an odo error as well?...cuz i did my calculations and the outer circumference of the 17s is more than that of the stock 15s...and hence in reality more distance is covered by the 17s in one rotation compared to the 15s but probably the odo is set to calculating distance with the 15s..
