None at all ! I appreciate you being candid and also for thinking about the environment. Wish everyone did the same.

About the JKs - I see both kinds of reviews
1. Ohh they are so noisy change then ASAP and enjoy the bliss
2. Hmm they aren't bad; I don't know what all the fuss is about.

I guess I will need to make up my own mind on whether I need to change the tyres or not. On second thoughts I could start a poll and see what the majority of the SX4 owners say!!

@mail4loys: I guess you could PM some SX4 owners from B'Lore and get inputs from them. They might be able to help you out. Couple of persons that I know of are digitaldragon and nurni76

It's actually very simple. If your SX4 is going to be chauffeur driven ALL the time with the driver doing sedate speeds and no crazy driving, then you really need the upgrade. Sure, you could upgrade for better ride quality to Michelin Primacy LCs, but not necessary.

IF however you are going to drive the car yourself and enjoy a spirited drive once in a way, then the JKs are going to let you down sooner or later. The JK Vectras arent as bad as the tornadoes. Also, the 205 width makes up for the inadequate grip the rubber compound provides.

Hmm I fall in this category. So I either bank on the 205 width despite JKs or go ahead and upgrade. Still confused!

Im reposting my post from the earlier page, hoping for some replies and opinions on this

Quote:
A little off topic but dosent anyone feel that the SX4 is slighty overtired? Even the civic with 130 HP or the cedia with 115 come shod with 195 width tyres on 15 inch wheels. SX4 had only 100 HP, now improved to 103 of course but the ZXI comes with 205 width on 16 inchers which will reduce ride comfort to a certain extent as well as affect FE. Wouldnt 195 have been sufficient?

Well, it is over tyred. But then if you want 16", you cannot get anything smaller than 205. For some reason in India, the bigger the rim, the more bragging rights you have.

In this case, with the SX4 being a sort of crossover car, I think the Ground clearance is very high. And you would have to give it to 16" rims and high profile tyres. The ride quality in this car is not dependant on the tyres. 205/60 is a very high profile tyre. 123mm of rubber in the sidewall is quite a lot. And in 16", this is pretty much the only option.

If you gave it 15", then you are stuck with 195/65 R15 as the maximum size(VXi SX4).

Ideally though, I agree that 195 section tyres is more than enough.

Yes i mean overtyred thanks :P Anyway thanks for the reply nikhil, i was thinking the same, some better quality 195 section rubber would both improve FE and ride quality IMHO

Hey, did you finalize anything in this regard? I think Iam in the same situation where you were some weeks back. I will be getting delievery of my Sx4 VXI in few days and want to replace stock ones just after taking the delievery.

I am considering YOKO ES501 and B.Stone Potenza GR-3 for the same.

@ Hearsh.

I went for the VXI precisely because i found it to be noticebly better in ride comfort than the ZXI. Also, the 15 " Bridgestone Turanzas were quiter than the 16" JKs. The jury is still out on whether they are also better for FE.
I changed the stock steel rims to alloys though. Seriously consider sticking to stock tires (and rims) unless you are a racing enthusiast!

The ER300 tyres that come OEM with the VXi model is waaaaaaay better than the JK which comes on the "premium model".

If you get an SX4 VXi, you dont need to change the tyres at all! The BS ER300 are superb tyres. Unfortunately, they come only on 2 cars. The SX4 and the Altis.

It is ironical that "premium" model is coming with JK and VXI coming with BStone. I am getting ZXI which comes with JK's and in Dilemma to exchange stock for good tyres or not. I have talked to few tyre dealers and they are giving me Rs. 3700 for stock tyres if I bring it to them rite after showroom.

Now am in Dilemma to go for change or not , Let me tell you my driving:

> Everyday Driving of 50 KM (30 % Highway and 70% City)
> Quarterly Trip to Himalaya ( My Home )
> Calm Driver but ocsssional adrenaline rush.

What do you guys suggest ? How much difference will replacement of tyres benefit me. If there is huge diffrence in driving experince then only I will go for the Kill.

Thanks Guys...!
