I wanted to upgrade to Acceler but its not available for the size, upgrade was important for my Ladakh trip, but now that the trip is over, I will wait for its availability. I think Acceler is good for price

Guys,

Today I got my sx4 tyres changed. I had driven 44K k.m. in 3 years with stock JK tyres. I had enough noise and many times flat tyres with them. Finally decide to throw them out.
Purchased Michelin Primary LC size 205/60 16 and I can see a lot of difference in ride quality. I have decided to stick to stock size because it is recommended by most guys here. I can feel tremendous difference in the smoothness, mainly while crossing speed breakers, small potholes. Thanks a bunch to each and every team-bhpian who gave their valuable inputs in this forum.
I am planning for a long drive in Karnataka soon that forced me to change the tyres in ASAP mode

The shop name is "Syper Tyretec" located in JC road. He charged 8.7K for each tyre. I tried a lot for Yokohama in many shops in Bangalore but nowhere stock exists.
Anyhow I finally got much better tyres I guess.

But only sad thing is, I got very less amount for the old JK tyres. Just 150 rs each :(

For more details about the shop refer this forum "Bangalore tyre shops"

Happy driving!!

re: Maruti Suzuki SX4 : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Hi Guys,

Taking delivery of my SX4 Zxi tomorrow. Having read various opinions and having had a poor experience of Michelin after sales in the past, I am tending towards CPC2 tyres - same size as original - 205/60/16. I have been quoted Rs. 6900 per tyre and the dealer will give me Rs. 3900/= each for the old tyres. This means an additional cost of Rs. 12,000/= for 4 tyres.
How are the tyres for comfort and grip?
Please confirm that this deal is OK.
A quick reply would be much appreciated.

Regards,
SS

re: Maruti Suzuki SX4 : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

I got my SX4 zxi early this month. Before that I had already scouted around in Goa for changing the stock JK VEctra 205/60R16 to either Michelin or Yokohama. I had Michelin XM1 on my previous Baleno, and loved the fabulous quality of the tyre.
No dealer in Goa had stock of the Michelin Primacy LC that I wanted. Some of them promised to get them for me, but would not take back the stock tyres. Finaly I contacted dealers as far as Kolhapur and Pune to get some acceptance of the JK as buy-back.
As a last resort I contacted Apex 2000, a local accessories dealer, who informed he had just started a tyre dealership and gave me an offer of Rs 2500/- per JK on fitment of Yokohama ES501 tyres. The new tyres are uni-directional, that is, they have to be installed to rotate in a particular directions, which means left and right side tyres cannot be swapped. Hence I opted to change only 4 tyres, and kept one OE tyre as the spare.

The difference is tremendous, the ride is soft, the tyres are super-silent and yet I feel fully in control of the vehicle. It feels like driving a limo! Highly recommended for anyone wanting to do the same.

Hi Filcord,

Good to see the positive feedback on the Yoko's.
However, you have not stated what size you got.
When I was looking for Yoko's they could only give me a 215 size tyre which is one size up from the OE size (205).
Please let me know what size you got and if 215 then any issues with touching the body or fenders of the car when turning?
Also has the size affected your FE to a great extent?

Regards,

SS

Best VFM option for SX4 Zxi
205-60-16 Apollo Acelere - Rs 5700/- per tire.

Re: Tyre suggestion for SX4, economical solution

Can you share your experience on the tyres you bought to replace the stock JK ones? How much did you pay and where did you buy it from?

any other inputs/suggestions you would like to share with others looking for advice?

Re: Tyre suggestion for SX4, economical solution

Apollo Accler - 205/60/16 is available but got some feedback of frequeent punctures on this one.

Bridgestone Turanzas are not available for 205/60/16 instead I got an offer for 215/60/16, will there be scraping or any other issue while replacing 205 by 215?

Potenzzas are available for 205/60/16 but with the high noise feedback from many T-BHP members, I don't want to go for these.

Is upsizing from 205 to 215 with same 60/16 rating acceptable? Will there be any difference in handling or side effect on suspension, mileage?

How are the other tyres rated, e.g MRF, Ceat etc compared to Bridgestone, Yokos?

Appreciate your advice and valuable feedback.

Shankyz
Get the aceleres. They are the best VFM tires available for SX4.
Every tire will have one bad review somewhere.
IMO, Sx4 zxi already has an oversize tire. I wouldn't suggest 215.

Going from 205 to 215 with the same 60 profile on a 16 inch rim will lead to speedometer error.

Re: Tyre suggestion for SX4, economical solution

Buy the Jk itself. They are also value for money. I replaced the JK with JK itself in my SX4 simple reason being They lasted 55k Kms and no punctures. A known devil better than a Unknown Angel. Or look at Any Good year they are also tremendous VFM

re: Maruti Suzuki SX4 : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

This query is for my SX4 VDi,
Stock Size = 195/65 R15

Wanted to upgrade to ZDi specifications (205/60 R16) but tyre calculator link suggests that if I upgrade to the ZDi spec "You have a 2.82% difference in diameter. Your speedometer will be 2.74% too slow."

Then playing on this calculator I found that the least error was with 205/55 R16 (You have a 0.41% difference in diameter. Your speedometer will be 0.41% too fast.)

So ZDi specification will create issues with the speedo reading, hence ruling it out,

Now my queries if I upgrade to 205/55 R16 -
  • Which will be best tyre brand for this specification (I have a budget of Rs. 6500 and less per tyre)
  • My intent to upsize is to get the ZDi ground clearance, will this specification solve my purpose
  • I often travel to the hills which sometimes have bad/broken roads, do the steel rims are more stronger as compared to the alloy wheels

I would appreciate pointers since I am planning this change tomorrow

There's a huge possibility that the speedometer caliberation of the ZDI and VDI would be the seem, because IIRC a 6% error in the speedometer figure is legally acceptable.

So if this is true then go ahead with the ZDI spec!

Issue is not legally, incorrect speedometer may void the warranty

re: Maruti Suzuki SX4 : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

205/55 R16

Potenza G3 - Rs.8000 per tyre
Turanza ER300 - Rs.5500 per tyre (grey market)
Yokohama A-Drive (R1) - Rs.6500 per tyre
Pirelli P7 - Rs.5700 (mrp Rs.8500, getting this at dealer price)

My current setup (Apollo Accelure) are being bought back for Rs.22500 (Rs.4500 per tyre + rim)

Alloy options -
Plati (Platinum) - Rs. 19500 (set of 5 alloys)
League - Rs. 23300 (set of 4 alloys)
OE alloys from Maruti Showroom- Rs. 23000 (set of 5 alloys)

Guys please help me select the tyres,
my main motive is to increase GC, and reduce tyre noise.
