re: Maruti Suzuki SX4 : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Guys, my wife's SX4 had a tyre burst today- its running on original JKs and has done about 30K kms.

SHould I get all 4 tyres changes or just replace teh burst one with a new JK Vectra?

if I need to change, which is a good option- I am inclined towards a tyre that is more puncture resistant rather than low noise or high speed grip, since the SX4 is driven by her only in the city- we have an SUV for our highway drives.

I got tyres for my sx4 changed to michelin plc yesterday. Paid rs.9200/- per tyre for 4 tyres. Got buy back of rs.200/- per tyre for only 3 tyres as one had got bent.

re: Maruti Suzuki SX4 : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

I wanted to go for cpc2 but they are not available anywhere because of government new policy.

APOLLO ACELERE- Rs.6100/-
Yokohama es501 - Rs. 8100/-
GOODYEAR ASSURANCE -Rs. 6700/-. But are available in 215. no size in 205 for next two months.
Bridgestone g3- Rs.8300-8500. As sx4 already has a bumpy ride didn't want to go for them.

re: Maruti Suzuki SX4 : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Hi guys,,,
I want to change my sx4 Vxi tyres 195/65R/15.
Im currently on mrf zv2k. Have clocked 25k with these.

Kindly help me to make a choice between these :

MRF ZV2K
BRIDGESTONE POTENZA GIII
MRF ZSLK

Im terribly confused by researching,

50% of my driving is on rough terrains...and other half maybe divided into high speed and normal highway drives...
I do not have any city rides...

MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCES WITH MY KINDA DRIVIN AS ABOVE :

MRF ZV2K :
VERY TOUGH, LOW LIFE , ROUGH RIDES, VERY RELIABLE, NO PUNCTURES AT ALL, NEVER STRANDED ME...

BRIDGESTONE TURANZA ER-300 : ( CAME AS OE )
SMOOTH RIDE, LOW LIFE, GETS CUT OFF VERY QUICKLY, HAS HAD MANY PUNCTURES, A COMPLETE NO NO FOR ME...

BRIDGESTONE POTENZA GIII :
YET TO TRY , HAVE HEARD A LOT...EXPECTIN INPUT FROM ACTUAL USERS...

MRF ZSLK :
YET TO TRY, NO IDEA AT ALL

Thanks in advance...

re: Maruti Suzuki SX4 : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Hello everyone

I have a bit of a problem here.. well actually it been driving me crazy :P
I am getting a Sx4 this week and want to change my tires on day 1, but i cant find seem to find anything nice.
Here is what is confusing me. The Sx4 is sold in 2 variants and they both have different tire sizes.

Sx4 Vxi - Ground clearance 170mm and tire size of 195/65 R15
Sx4 Zxi - Ground clearance 180mm and tire size of 205/60 R16

Is there any difference in the two apart from the tire size ? anything different in suspension setup etc to accommodate the larger tires for the Zxi ?
The reason i ask is because according to miata.net tyre size calculator the right upsize for the respective variants is as follows.

Sx4 Vxi - Stock 195/65 R15 - Recommended upsize is 225/50 R16. Error is 0.5 %
Sx4 Zxi - Stock 205/60 R16 - Recommended upsize is 225/55 R16. Error is 0.2 %

Attached screenshots of the above configs..

Sx4 Vxi - Stock 195/65 R15 - Recommended upsize is 225/50 R16. Error is 0.5 %

Sx4 Zxi - Stock 205/60 R16 - Recommended upsize is 225/55 R16. Error is 0.2 %

Now here is the problem. I can get Michelin PS3's in 225/50 R16 but i cant find a single good tire apart from the Bridgestone Potenza G3 in 225/55 R16.

What tire would you choose guys ? Will 225/50 R16 work on a Zxi ? I know i will get a lower GC if i use the 225/50 R16 ( 170mm - same as the Vxi) , whereas if i use the 225/55 R16 i get 180mm of GC ( same as the Zxi )

Here is what miata.net tyre calculator says if i use the Zxi tire size as default and upsize to 225/50 R16 ( recommended for the Vxi )
Stock 205/60 R16 - Upsize to 225/50 R16. Error is 3.2 %

So guys i need help as you can see
Will it be ok to run Michelin PS3's in 225/50 R16 on the Zxi or should i stick to the Bridgestone G3 ? Please do suggest other tires too in ultra high performance if available too
Thank you tons in advance everyone !
Cheers and kind regards.

I am running Yokohama Decibel series 225/55R16. Have clocked about 21k kms on them.
Absolutely fantastic tyres. They are true to their name - after running the crappy noisy JK Vectras, these will make you feel like you are floating. No issues whatsoever.

re: Maruti Suzuki SX4 : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Thank you for the quick help guys
Umm both the Yoko db and the primacy LC are more comfort/silence oriented tires. I am kind of hoping to find something that is a little more sport oriented.
I can get the Michelin ps3 in 225/50 R16 and the bridgestone G3 in 225/55 R16.
Goodyear also has the new eagle f1 directional 5 listed on their website in 225/55 R16 but I can't find that tire at all either.
If I can fit the Michelin ps3 in 225/50 R16 on the zxi then I'll do it.
If I can't use the Michelin in that size on the zxi then right now the only other high performance tire I have available to me as far as I can tell is the bridgestone G3 in the recommended size of 225/55 R16.
Is there anything better than the G3's in that size?
Thanks a ton in advance guys..
Cheers and kind regards

Well, I might not be able to give you feedback on acceleration and cornering performance of my Yokohamas as I have not yet driven them on the track.
However, I can surely tell you that the braking on the Yokohamas are excellent. I have braked real hard on a couple occasions and they did not break traction - Vectras did break traction under similar braking conditions. So, braking performance is definitely better.

re: Maruti Suzuki SX4 : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

I upgraded to Yokohama noise less tyres when i had my SX4 and the tyres ran smoothly for over 25K Kms. Even after i sold the car recently, they were just perfect without any issues.

re: Maruti Suzuki SX4 : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

I need to change the tyres of my SX4 Zxi soon. Looking for something that gives slightly better grip yet is tough. My stock Vectras have lasted more than 45K km, don't want to keep changing tyres every 15-20K.

The Primacy LCs will have better grip but is much softer.

You can consider Yokohama in 215/60-16. Technically the wrong upsize but works well on the SX4 to a large extent. Also, it is reasonably tough.

Both of these tyres will last 35-40k.

GIIIs will not be that much better than the PLCs. The PLCs may be comfort oriented but grip really well.

The PS3s are absolutely brilliant if you can find them and afford them. 225/50-16 is a wrong upsize for the SX4, but it isnt too bad. You can manage.

Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3s are good but have a very short usable life.
