How do I find the manufacturing date of MRF tyres? I read somewhere that this will be based on a number following the letters DOT. For example DOT xxyy3907 will mean that the tyre was manufactured in the 39th week of the year 2007. Now I didn't see this DOT anywhere on the tyres of the Chevrolet Spark that I was shown recently. Hence I was not able identify the manufacturing date of the tyre. Even my Dad's car which has MRF tyres do not have DOT xxyyNNNN on it.

All tyres must be having the manufacturing date on it. I have seen the DOT on some other cars in my company. I think JK tyres, Apollo tyres etc. have this DOT. It is some kind of international standard.please: tell me if you know the answer to my question.

I think on the MRF's there'll be a 4-digit code stamped seperately in a circular kind of space which'll say something like 3907 which will denote the manufacturing week & year. Do look around once again on the tyre for such a mark.

Yes Iraghava is right,MRF and most Indian brands have a oval stamping on the tire which has the week and year of manufacture. It will not be preceded by DOT.

Check the other side of the tyre. It should be there I've seen on most Verna's the Mfg number is on the inside side of MRF ZVTS. U may have to put the car on the lift to check it out or will have to remove each tyre..

Aha, that makes sense! It has to be on the other side!! I thought of that possibility, but it didn't make sense to me that only one side should be having the manufacturing date. But Now that you have confirmed it, I will check the other side.

I will have to crawl under the car though. But that's OK. As long as I find the manufacturing date.

lol: good observation iraghava. I had even forgotten that I had mentioned that in my profile. My dad has the 95 model zen.
I checked the spare tyre in my Dad's zen and found it to be a 95 spare tyre. Ha, I must have found a proper antique!! Way back in 95, the tyres had the month written on it as OCT95 on it, and not the week/year format.

As per information from sources, MRF doesnot follow DOT date system, may be they are not exporting car tyre:confused:
As far as i have been told ulike other companies MRF uses individual tyre serial it ia 10-12 digit no.
Some kind of coding:confused: XXXXXX5649 this means tyre is manufactured in (56)-(49)=7 i.e.2007. Altough i am not too sure about it.

Apparently, dad only changed 4 tyres, so the original spare tyre is still in the car!!

I have seen this 11 digit code on outer side of the zen's tyre, so that means that the manufacturing date is on the outer side. That also makes identifying the manufacturing date easier. No need to crawl under (whew!).

I see how 05-00 makes it 2005. But how do I determine the week of manufacture from the above 11 digits.

05-00 means manufactured in the 5th week of the year 2000.
