No Neeraj 5j rims will also work without any issues...Infact with 5.5j rims the chances of fouling would increase.

Advise for tyres/rim change for Zen

hi All

Please advise whether i should go for alloys and tubeless tyres 155/65/13 for zen which is currenly using 145/80/12 all stock

it has done 45k and still some rubber left but thinking of changing it in december as the road noise has increased a lot
  1. please suggest whether going for 155/65/13 is the correct upsize or not
  2. also give me ideas from where i can buy alloys and how much will it cost me ?
  3. any idea abt second hand alloys ?
  4. also what will be ideal rim width of the alloys that i need ?
Thanks in advance

165/60/12 is wrong upsize for the zen. That said, have been using the size and more than happy with it.

Bridgestone Turanza's are also a great choice in the 13" category.

My friends zen has been running them for 25,000+ since August 2006. Lots of hard driving and off roads in Coorg. Its still holding up really well.

This is probably the only bridgestone I would vouch for here in India.

1. 155/65-13 is a correct upsize.
2. Lajpat Nagar, Karol bagh or Noida. 13" alloys start from 2.5k per piece.
3. No
4. Any alloy with a width of more than 5j is not recommended for zen.

Thats a good deal.
Are u on a budget ? If not then u can also consider Michelin XM1 Rs 2200 per tyre.

i was earlier considering XM1 only but then read some reviews about the silent nature and gud tread pattern of Acelere's so i thought lets think about them also.

another query

all the alloys except from AURA are having 5.5 J width in 13",so where can i find 13" alloy with 5 J

Please help regarding this cos i dont want to compromise on ride quality/handling/FE.

Thanks

I think only Aura and Neo brands have 13", 5j alloys.

Another member for tire change!

Team:

My 2005 zen has recently completed 35000 kms and I guess its time to change the tires (one of the tires had an uneven wear!). My current set of tires are the MRF ZVTS on rim size 12 and I was wondering if I could go in for the same set of tires or move over to Michelin/Apollo or some other tire brand. I really don't have any idea about tires and I am following this thread for the same reason.

Primary concerns are as follows:
  1. Good grip on wet/dry tarmac
  2. Fuel Efficiency should not be affected (I am getting 14 kmpl with the ac in mumbai city)
  3. Tire noise shouldn't be too much
  4. Pricing (I don't want to change the rims)
The factor which i observed is no one, literlly no one spoke about the MRF tires which are good in my opinion.

Please advise and help on this.

amtak, go for Bridgestone Turanza ER60 145/80R12 tubeless tires.
IMO, that is the best tyre/ size for ZEN with 12" steel rims.
Expect an increase FE too as these tyres are lighter in weight by 650grams!
The tyre+rim combo at 30psi air pressure weighs around 9.15kg , the stock one with tube at 24psi weighs 9.78 kg
Mine 155/65/13 +13" esteem rim weighs 10.8 kg at 30 psi ( I am waiting for a reply from Akroy for his AURA9350+ michelin xm1 combo)

So, when we talk about low unsprung weight of the vehicle ( which acconts for better FE, good pickup etc.) TURANZAs
outscores all combinations.

Thanks Breezy. I normally maintain the tire pressure of 28 on all the 4 tyres. Also, any idea how much would these tires cost me??
