hey guys which tire size is better for zen (better in the sense: wont affect the shocks, dont touch car's body and dont vibrate on 100+ speed)

165/70/12 (available in Kumho/ Hankook)
165/60/12 (available in Yoko)

For trouble free experience choose any of the following.

12"
145/80-12

13"
155/65-13
165/60-13

Note: Rim width also play an imp role. 5j in 13" would be the best.

Folks,

I'm running Good Year GPS2 165/65/13 its almost time to change them.

Its my "city" car (my only car ) don't plan for any long drives. Will take my dad's or Bro's diesel for that.

I want something cheap I guess.
Grip/Comfort/Mileage I don't care at all. Only thing is this car will be my track toy on a track day. (No mods well except for the FFE + stock muffler and a strut brace.)

I drive it maybe 150-500 Kms a month. Maybe less.

Since my car is a non PS I'd like to go with 155's this time.

Any suggestions ?

I am using Michelin XM1+ 145/80R12 in my Zen .I found them not up to my liking. They tend to loose grip much earlier even compared to the crappy GPS2.Only XM1+ is better in smooth ride , low noise.Even in braking XM1+ tend to lock up sooner .

I am not happy in performance front from Xm1+/
I feel Turanza would have been better.
I always run at 28psi.

I'm seriously surprised as I run my 2001 Zen on the Michelin XM1+ (145/80 R12) maintain 30psi and have done 20000 kms on them already. Been on a few long trips as well and they have only wow'ed me. Grip levels are just good and I can corner at pretty brisk speeds (and I am no slouch behind the wheels as well). The best thing I like about them is the noise levels.
I have a feeling there might be some alignment issue with the chassis. Have a friend who complains of the rear of the car trying to step out towards the right and the problem was later diagnosed to a slightly bent chassis on the left.

Hey guys.

I am planning to change the tires on my 2003 Zen Lxi. I read through the complete thread and the options that I am considering are :

1. 195/45 R14
2. 165/65 R13

I calculated the speedo error to be around the same for both. My friend who is running a 195/45 R14 on his car haven't added spacers but he said the tire hits the sidewalls when he turns the steering to either side completely. I was doubtful about the comfort of the ride with such a low profile but the guy running the 165/65 R13 told me that he found the 195s far better than his when it came to comfort. What is everyones opinion on running the 195/45 R14? Is there any other similar profile available?

Nithin,
What is your requirement ? Comfort, handling or bling bling looks ??

Comfort - 145/80-12 (stock size)
Handling - 165/60-13
Best of both worlds - 155/65-13

Looks - 195/45-14

For a 7 yr old Zen i would suggest u to stick with stock size or get 155/65-13.

Actually 165/65 R13 would work better. At least in the theoretical world. Because the difference from 145/80 R12 is marginal.

KP, any problems with 165/65 R13? Meaning wheel arch scraping, etc?

With 165/65-13 one of the rear tire will scrape against the quarter panel while going over the bumps and front tires will touch the wheel well during a full turn.

Handling would be a high priority. I would want it to look real good as well not so bling blingy but pretty decent. People keep saying that comfort isn't much compromised with the 195/45 and that is how those rubbers came into consideration. I was actually planning to go for the 165s. I am currently running the stock 145/80 R12s. And the price factor is also a concern. I am not sure how much the prices are in Chennai for the tires. I haven't got a chance to go check them out.

I have decided to go for Yokohama A539's 175/60 r13 for my carb Zen. Sanghi tyres Vashi has quoted Rs 2860 for the same. Yokohama is also giving away free caterpiller glares worth around 3k with 4 tires. I am holding on as i have not finalized the alloys yet. Can someone recommend a good 5 or 6 spoke wheel design? I am basically looking for durability more than looks.

Btw this is the number of the Mumbai representative of Yokohama 9987035030 ( Rajeev ), saved a lot of time for me to narrow down on a dealer.
