Hunter Wheel alignment in Bombay?

Self explanatory.

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/techni...tml#post870212

This reminded me , anyone in Mumbai still has a Hunter alignment & balancing machine - anybody?
cheers

Tire Tech Information - Alignment

A performance alignment calls for the manufacturer's maximum negative camber, maximum positive caster, and preferred toe settings. While remaining within the vehicle manufacturer's recommendations, these alignment settings will maximize tire performance.

PS : Never had 4 wheel allignment for the Swift but Hunter says :

Here's what we do:
For vehicles with non-adjustable rear suspensions
  1. Angle readings are measured at all four wheels.
  2. The steering wheel is centered.
  3. Front wheels are referenced to rear thrust line and set to specifications.

How often do you guys get your wheels aligned/balanced and rotated?and at what price approx?

Are there trusted places to get it done for the BMW? or should i do it from the showroom only rather than these hunter machine equipped places?

Have always got my cars alignment etc done at JC auto in andheri...any idea if they use Hunter?

Tyre shoppe Noida charges around 100rs/alignment.
But they have another machine where they do 4 wheels alignment and charge 300rs/car
I presume its one of these more expensive machines?

I would think it would be a 3D Aligner. There is a shop in the Petrol Pump outside Great India Place that also has the same.

@sahil: I usually get it done approx at every 5000 kms & I belive thats what is recommended.

Yeah it takes around 150 bucks for wheel alignment, showroom costs more.

Hey man I get it done whenever needed , with my low budget cars and my driving style , I occasionally get it done even 700 km s after a perfect aligning and balancing job , but at least once in 1500 km , bridgestone recommend alignment and balancing every 2500 km at least .
It costs me 700 Rs at all the places I have been to.

Dealers should do a good job , but i have been let down and if there is a hunter system in town , would highly recommend it .

We will find out about hunter in mumbai soon.

DSP 600 is very similar to hawkeye. Hawkeye is the latest machine from Hunter. DSP 600 was the highest end machine from Hunter until december.

Hawkeye was introduced into India at the same time as the rest of the world. We revealed it properly at the Auto Expo.

About 3D wheel alignment, I will force my dad to sit and type out a reply tonight. Pukka.

I'll try my best according to what my dad told me.

In 2-D wheel alignment machines, you have this particular apparatus you fix to the wheel. It's quite bulky and inside this is a lot of electronics. This is connected to the other devices on other wheels using wires (or in later models, Infra Red). It is then connected to the computer(which runs the software) by wires again.

This device is easily damaged and most of the time it will not give accurate readings as they would have been mishandled by the technicians. You can never realise how wroing the readings are until you test it. To get back the accuracy, you need to recalibrate the equipment which is very cumbersome.

Even regular wheel alignment is not as simple and easy to perform. It can be accurate, only if the machine has been recently recalibrated and the equipment is handled with the utmost care. The sensors in this device shouldnt be damaged at all. Also, this has limitations.

So, anyway, the sensors and electronics in the device attached to the wheel capture position of wheel, etc and transfer this data to the computer where the software calculates and gives you the final readings. Castor, camber, Toe, etc...

The main limitation of this is that you can measure data only in 2 dimensions and so, whatever castor, camber, toe readings you get are not exact. The alignment may be done satisfactorily but it isnt exact.

3D wheel aligners are different.

There is only a plastic target mounted on the wheel. This plastic target has one reflective side. These targets are mounted on all 4 wheels. There are cameras (4 or 8 depending on the model and the company) which keep taking photographs of the targets. This is why the face of the target facing upwards has these reflective stickers.

This camera can measure in 3D. It is like a very slow framerate video camera. So, when you rotate the steering wheel(as is done in every wheel alignment procedure), the camera continues to take pics of the targets at different angles and positions.

Based on the photos, the software calculates the castor, camber, toe. This way, the final readings are got based on measurements in 3 dimensions.

Also, the camera is mounted pretty high and is not easy to damage. It is out of harm's way.
