headers uses 185/70/R13 on his Accent CRDI and he's pretty contented with them.
He upsized from his earlier 175/70/13

you can either use the size nitrous suggested or here is list that will suit the car just fine,

175/70-R13(stock)
185/70-R13(+2% speedo error)
185/60-R14(stock again on petrol highest variant and perfect upsize)
185/65-R14(has +4% speedo error.)

if i was you i would put the 185/65-R14 tyre on a wider alloy, but since budget is a constraint, this size will just do fine on the stock steel rims from hyundai, they are 14X5J rims, and for the 185 profile any thing below 5J(rim's width) will mean poor handling and misfit!

the 65 profile of the side wall will ensure better comfort levels, hence the suggestion, this size is more for comfort based cruising kind of driving.

if you are seriously looking at the cornering and handling factors then get at least 6J rims/alloys for the tyre to stay put, also the 185/60-R14 will be better for this purpose.

and as for the tyres you can look at bridgestones in these sizes, or may be michelin XM1+ range has these sizes, they are both good brands and have the prices ranging from 2700 to 3800 per tyre depending on the sizes given above.

Thanks rider60 for the details. I will inquire about the 185/65/14 on my stock steel rims. I am going to a dealer today. I will update the thread with the outcome

Your stock rims are 13" and 185/65-14 are 14" tires. U cant 14" tires on 13" rims.

Yup and that what the dealer told me. I went and inquired both B'stone and Michelin tyres. Here are the quotes

THe B'Stone shop is not a retail shop but the distributor for Karnataka. He is related to a close friend of mine. He pointed me to a couple of retail outlets where I can get these tyres fitted.

The Michelin inquiry was done at "Tyre Professionals" near south end circle (opp shanti sagar). The sales guy was pushing hard for me to buy the 185/70/R13s. I told him that I will have to get back to him.

Also I was told by b'stone guys that I can put the t/l tires on my stock rims only after inspection was done by the retail guys and if they are satisfied. However, the michelin guy said that he can fit the t/l on my stock steel rims without even taking a look at their condition (even I know better than that)!

Are the quotes reasonable? or do they seem to be on the higher side?


P.S> Both dealers confirmed that the prices have gone up 4-5% since sep1st 2008.

I am getting Pirelli P6 195/60/14 at 3.1K per tyre,found this tyre a steal as compared to others

also getting 185/60/14 for 3K

I am thinking of going with 195/60,is it a good deal for pirelli's?

Hey Rex, let me know what you go in for. I am also planning to upgrade the tyres for my ikon from the standard tubed Zvts but want to stick to standard 13" rims. Dont want to go in for alloys right now.
I am looking at 175/70/R 13. Any ideas if Yoko's are available in that size ?
if so which ones are worth going for ? I am basically looking at comfort and less tyre noise.Dont really rip too much so purely high performance tyres are out.

Sure. My stock too is 175/70/R13. Planning to keep the steel rims and go for tires of same size. Michelin is my preferred brand. I was not sure whether Michelin has XM1+ in 175/70/R13. Then, I saw post in this thread listing that.

I'm not very sure of the Yokos availability in this size. Some body can comment.

Rex, not yet. Planning to do this over the weekend. Last weekend I went on a zoo trip with family to mysore so couldnt get it done. The ride was bad. I could feel a lot of the road.
This week will do it. BTW I called up a shop near lalbagh main gate (located at the junction where the road splits towards west gate and minerva circle. He was quoting 500 less for all the tyres that I listed before. I think I will make a sortie there before I decide.

I went through my notes. The shop I am referring to is Millivision (080-26563863). The person's name is Govind.
He also mentioned that used tyres will be bought for Rs100-500 depending on condition.
