Indica Vista : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Members,

I wanted to ask the experts here if the Vista has been right sized with its 175/65 R14 or if it is undersized?

I am highly considering to purchase the Vista before the end of November [just waiting to get my home loan through first and also see if hyundai i20 might debut by then] and wanted to see what upsizing I need to do, so I should include those costs against my total purchase consideration.

Me and my colleague [and tbhp member Sreenivas] feel the 14" inchers look ok but that the wheelwell can safely accomodate 15" wheels. What I do want to confirm, is if it will be safe to put in a 195/60 R15 or is it just best to put in a 195/55 R15? I am thinking that the 19/60 R1 tyres might scrape on full load.

I may be wrong but I fear that 175 width woudn't be enough for highway runs [over 300kms]. FYI I had a 185/60 R13 [goodyear + aura alloys] on my previous Indica DLS, and they gave a good grip and didn't scare me on an emerygency drive from Chennai to Mysore, a year and half back.

Also, how good are the Yokohama S drive tyres? I am looking for good overall grip [dry & wet] and comfort as most important critetia, along with least noise levels.

I am being quoted Rs.4300/- per tyre for the Yokohama S drive [without any bargains].

Welcome all your suggestions

[i know this post must have to be in the 'tyre & alloy' section, but for some reason, I'm unable to post there. Hence, put it here since it's for Vista. Please move the thread if required]

I think the 175/65 R14's are ok, and like you said, you can go up a couple of sizes, but the 195's may scrape. I myself want to try 185/60 R14's.

The 175/65 R14's have been doing duty on the Indigo's also.

Condor, thanks for your response.

Are you saying 195 width might scrape or that 195 width on 15 inch tyres might scrape?

I doubt 195 will scrape on 14 inchers but I cannot say the same for 195s on 15" wheels. But I wish I can go for 195 on 15" wheels, since the Vista is now larger and wider, I feel 195s will provide good stability. Not sure about comfort and silent ride on 195/55s.

i think 195/50 r15 would be the right upsize. you can get s-drives in that size. they will give you good grip and decent comfort levels.

If you do 195's, you will go for lower profile, so that the overall dia does not deviate too much from stock. But it's going to be much more wider, so will possibly scrape.

With the Vista, 15's would definitely look good. That's what I felt when I saw the car.

Generally, it is safe to do up-size by one step, from the stock size.

If the stock size is 175/65/R14, then the optimum balance between ride and handling would be 185/60/R14.
If you need bling, then if available 185/55/R15 (very rare)
or 195/50/15 (quite common)

The Indica Vista is not a very powerful hatch. Keeping that in consideration, a 185 patch is the most you should opt for. Anymore will slow the car down as well as compromise its agility. However, if you are inclined toward 15 inchers, then a 195 it is.

Thanks everyone for your response.

I'm not too keen it has to be a 195, but I was thinking that since the vista is larger than the previous Indica, I thought an upgrade to 195 [I had 185/60 R13 on my previous car] would be ideal [to aid more stability and grip on dry & wet conditions].

Since I don't want to lose the good ride, can you all comment on if 185/60 R15 would be ideal for the Vista?

Also, would it be SAFE to upscale to 195/60 R15? Or would it be too much and scrape a lot?

FYI stock tyre on vista is 175/65 R14. Criteria is I don't lose the good ride quality totally [which is why I got thinking of a 60 profile sidewall].

Thanks
ak

60 profile on 15" tyres will be too much. i suggest you stick to, at most 195/55 r15 though even that has a slight chance of scraping.

185/55/R15 is present in the Maxxis MA-Z1 catalogue that I have. But, I don't think Indian importer carries that size.

For 195/50/15, here's a link:

Sorry for bringing this one back alive but I've been looking around for the right tire upsize for the indica vista. So, I decide to make up a list of all the wheel sizes the vista can take. While making the list I put the maximum limit for an upsize at 4%. That's because I felt that the vista with its gigantic wheel wells can take that much.
After that I looked through the online catalogues of Michelin, Goodyear and Bridgestone and made a shortlist of all the tires that fit the bill with a size 15" and above.
This is what I came up with.
Items marked with a star may cause scraping because of their size.
First column is the tire size, second column is the percentage difference from the original and the last is the final diameter.

Btw, what is the PCD, offset and rim width on the stock wheels of the vista?? Can anyone who already owns the vista answer question please???

Are there any other notable tires from other brands which I should look at?? How do the tyres listed above perform?? And what might be their prices?? I need to find a balance between the price and the performance because I'm a little short on the vitamin M. I have little practical knowledge of tires and I could use some pointers from more experienced members.. Thanks in advance.

i have a basic question here:

would any 14" Alloy wheel accommodate both 175/65 R14 and 185/60 R14 tyres or do I require different alloys for them?

I was thinking of going for Alloys for my Vista first (for the 175 tyres) and then upgrade to 185 tyres later. can i use the same alloys in this case?

if not, i better wait and upgrade to alloys and 185 tyres together (wallet permitting)
