My SKODA Octavia running on stock Eagle NCT 5 205/55 R16 tires did 53k on the odometer. From the look of it the tires still had some juice but the they were making a lot of noise and I could feel all the road imperfections inside the cabin.

Was looking to get the Michelin but there was no stock with the dealer due to the import ban. Other option was Bridgestone 290 and Continental UC 6.

I replaced all four tires with Continental UC 6 205/60 R16 as I have previously used the Continental Cross contact and pretty happy with their performance. Plus got brand new stock 0221 stamped.

The ride is obviously smooth, but I will not rate the tires on that since my last memory of the ride quality is on the Eagle NCT 5. By that comparison any new set of wheels would perform really well.

The tires are really silent and braking is good. Ride quality is much better and it seems like a new car altogether. I really like the 3D print on the side walls (picture attached).

Good to see Continental making hay while the sun shines with their Made in India tyres . Nice printing on those tyres, looks very upmarket. Also noted that Continental (like Michelin) removes the vent spews (tyre hairs) during final finishing to give it a smooth finish.

Just one question is did they not have the UC6 in 205/55? Of course, the 60 profile should give you a cushier ride with maybe slightly more body roll.

205/60 was readily available and for some reason the dealer said it is cheaper by a grand per tire compared to UC6 205/55 R16.
205/60 gives a more cushy ride and there is no body roll noticed as the Octavia is a pretty heavy sedan. Also you get a marginally higher ground clearance which saves the underbelly.

UC6 looks like the best option for those who are not able to find P4ST. How much did you pay per tyre ?

I am also looking to change my car's tyre - Polo 195/60/r15 in Bangalore.

I was searching for P4ST but hard to find. Pirelli Cinturato P6 was 2019 stock and thereby advised by few to check for UC6. Request to guide me to a good showroom/workshop predominately in South Bangalore - BG Road, Hosur Road, HSR area? Tentative cost too if possible.

Hello, having driven under 2000km in one month, no complaints about the Goodyear 185/60R15 tyres that came stock (Rapid Rider Plus 2020 December made).



Have not even bothered to peel off the plastic from wheelcap. They are not going to be used anyway. because I happened to buy a set of momo alloys in 15"



Now researching to get new rubber as well. Popular opinion on the forum and some reading drove me toward Continental. I understand that 205/55R15 is the closest fit, given the alloys are 7.5J, is that correct?

Hi, thanks for the reference. Although I'm not in Bangalore, I visit often and thought I'll contact him to get new tyres for my Skoda Rapid. Purchased 15" momo alloys today from Hercules Tyres Bangalore (got it shipped to my place). Going by the discussions on forums, I'm considering:

1. Continental
2. Yokohama s drive

either in 205/55R15.

Thinking to keep the steel rims (maybe we will need it later, or in case of selling the car) and sell off the stock Goodyear 185/60R15 in near stock condition.

I swapped my 40k driven Michelin Primacy 3ST’s with Conti UC6 195/55 R16 as I was upgrading my alloys to 16” on my Vento. I feel braking distance is higher in these compared to the P3ST’s, and noise wise, they’re more or less the same, maybe 5% higher on the UC6. Paid about 7050 per tyre at Stunnerz Madhapur in Hyderabad inclusive of balancing and alignment.

This was the condition of my P3ST’s at the time of replacement. Tread wise, lot of life left, but there were cracks as shown.

How many kms have you covered with the new tires? Usually it takes atleast a 1-1.5k kms for the outer coating to wear out before we experience the true colours of the tire. If you've already crossed 1.5k, it's sad to hear.

A dealer in Pondicherry (Veera Tyres) said Continental UC6 is not available in this size since 8 months. Right now they only have 195/60R15 to offer me.

Another dealer in Bangalore (Govind, got his number from the forum) also only has that size. He was suggesting Yokohama S.drive and quoted Rs 6200 per tyre.

I want 205/55R15 because that is the dynamics I desire. Not fond of the difference in using a (considerably) bigger dia 195/60R15.

I have already purchased 7.5J alloys, so sticking to stock size is also not an option. We don't need unnecessary stretch on our only contact with the roads.

Have not discussed buyback of stock Goodyear tyres because I haven't decided what to do with them. Driven around 2000km already, and don't know how much more before I get new tyres. Some may feel I made a mistake by not planning this ahead. Theoretically, I could have made arrangements for alloys and tyres before taking delivery of the car, and traded in my fresh rubber for best value.

How old were the P3STs? Seems to be a good 20K km of tread left. The P3ST series are known to develop these cracks on the sidewall.

Not acceptable - we would have roasted Apollo or MRF for these same cracks.

Yeah, I’m waiting to cross that mark, so far it’s been about 4-500 kms. I’m eager to see how these fare out post that period.

I bought them in Jan 2018, on the second day of my ownership of the car. Yeah, tread wise, they were good. But since I was upgrading to 16” alloys, I let them go.

Also, these cracks were not exactly on the sidewall. Sidewall is perfect, more on the outer edge of the tread.

It does come in 14 inch. I got it for my Ford Figo

Since 205/55R15 is apparently out of stock everywhere I asked, decided to post a query on Continental Tyres India website. I expected an email reply at best. But to my surprise, got a call from someone in sales from Delhi. After asking for my location, she said someone from my region will get in touch. Later I received a call from Mr Ethiraj, who introduced himself as a senior person in sales from Chennai. He explained that only OEM stock sizes are in production right now, and less moving sizes like the 205/55R15 won't be available at least till April or May.

He seemed inclined to push 195/60R15, and proceeded to suggest that it is best to go only one size up (stock is 185/60R15), else it will affect dynamics and mileage.

Next topic is about RIM width. There is another number that comes with the alloy wheels for e.g. 17" 7j, 16" 6j etc. This is nothing but the width of the alloy wheels in inches. Alright my preferred dealer told me it's not advisable to wait for the Michelin P4ST (currently on P3ST) as there is absolutely no clarity about availability now or in the near future.

He advised me to opt for ContiMaxContact, or Continental UC6 if available in 195/65/15, and Yokohama Earth 1. I realise that my replacement tyres will have some pretty big (Michelin) shoes to step into but which one of these would be the closest to the current Michelins?

On an aside - serves prissy ol' Michelin right for not having set up car tyre manufacturing facilities here. Their loss is someone elses gain.
