Help me to select good tyres for my Mondeo

I recently managed to blow up one of my tyres and damage its alloy. The spare wheel is also in a bad shape. I have done about 27k kms on them. Since I need to buy at least two tires I feel it would be better to change all four of them.

I am thinking of up-sizing, stock size is 205-55-r16 and I want to go for 225-50-r16.

1) Is 225-50-r16 fine for Mondeo. Mondeo comes with 205-55-r16, 205-50-r17 and 225-40-r18 in europe.
2) Can I use 6.5j OE alloy wheel ? Michelin recommends 7j with 6j as min and 8j as max PS3.
3) Any specific suggestions on choice of tyre except Hankook and Yoko. I want performance tyre with stiff sidewall. I currently run Hankook Ventus v12 Evo. These tyres surprisingly hold up well when pushed into corners but don't inspire confidence in straight lines especially during fast lane changes due to soft side walls. There is always fear of oversteer. And I have some scary and near fatal experiences with S-Drives. So I want to stay well away from anything Yoko.

I would appreciate any suggestions in this regard. Thanks.

The options you have are Yoko Advan Sports and Michelin PS3s. I just got a set of PS3s on my vRS in 225/50 R16. All seems good as of now, though being Michelins I do have to be careful of potholes etc.

I think the 6.5j rim should be just fine. And 225/50 is the perfect upsize for 205/55.

Thanks Akshay. May I know how much you paid for PS3s. Is the sidewall soft on PS3? I am looking for something similar to Yoko S-Drives in terms of sidewall stiffness to improve the steering response.

Another (may be stupid) doubt - Can I still use the OE 205-55-r16 for the spare? Or should it also be up sized to 225.

11.6 per tyre. The sidewalls on Michelins in general are a bit soft. The steering response is great with these too, though the sidewall does flex a tad bit on the turn in.

Thanks once again akshay. I have used both Michelin PP and PP2s on my other car for almost 90k KMS and loved them although they are very prone to frequent punctures. But I would still blindly go with PS3s if they are as good as PP2s.

How about trying out Falkens? The Ziex ZE-912 would be a good upgrade as well.

Rated 4.4/5 on 1010tires.com. Here's the link for a review:

Thanks 9thsphinx. I read reviews on Falken, most users seem to complain about their performance on wet roads. I am bit hesitant. Looks like the only good option in 225-50-r16 is PS3.
