My bad! I misread your post. From your ownership thread I understand that you are using ER60 185/70 14 on steel wheels. Am I right? Can you please tell me what is the pressure you set?

Out of curiosity, since you are in tire business -

How do you sell three tires? People buy tires in pairs, correct?
Also, how can it be reasonable better available in chennai and not in bangalore? Do the dealers have a city preference for availability? May be dealer margins? I thought it would be a pan India launch and availability.

Have a look at our mod, n_aditya's ownership review thread, there you have the recommended tire pressure setting for the zdi variant. I am currently running 33 on all four tires, I feel it is a tad too high.

re: Maruti Suzuki Ritz : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Hello All,

A query from a friend of mine -

He wishes to switch his Swift VXi tires (195/50/14r) to his Ritz VXi currently running on 165/60/14r tires. Anything we should be wary of prior to getting this done or is it safe/ sane?

Apologies for having missed out in mentioning that he has steel rims on both cars. So, it would just be the tires that need to be switched (if, possible and subject to responses!).

P.S. - Mods, kindly merge these 2 posts if, possible. Thank you.

re: Maruti Suzuki Ritz : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Gave my Ritz Vxi a new set of shoes last week. Switched from OEM rubbish 165/80/14R JK Tornado to 180/70/14R Michelin Energy XM2. Initial impression after changing the tires is excellent. My car is silent now- I can hear the music in my car without raising the volume when cruising on 90kmph
The tire well looks full and the look of the car is a little enhanced too.

Firstly, the stock Ritz tyre size is 165/80 R14 and not 165/60. Secondly, upgrading to 195/50 R14 will give you a 11.1% error. The correct upsize would be 195/65 R14 if your friend still insists on using 195 section tyres. Also if he is using the steel rims which are 5.0J (IIRC) then 185 is the maximum he may upgrade to. Ideal upgrade would be 185/70 R14.

Hope to get lucky by finding a customer with 1 blown tire and 2 bald tires.

Sometimes, people genuinely need only 1 tire (recently bought 4, 1 gets punctured).

People returning to their abandoned vehicles with sketchy tires will take whatever they can get from their trusted stores - even if it's not in pairs. They'd take the risk with the 4th tire by using one of the a spare.

As someone replied, sometimes we sell tyres in single pieces. Sometimes people pick up 5 instead of 4.

In this particular case there was an issue with supply. We guys got it a couple of days late.

re: Maruti Suzuki Ritz : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

I upgraded the tyres of my wife's Ritz to 185/70R14 from 165/80R14. Opted for Michelin XM2 over Continental Eco Contact3 since the Conti kind of had sloped sides, and narrower as a result than XM2.

XM2 was ~250Rs more expensive ...

BTW, what is the offset (ET) of Ritz VXI steel rims ? I couldn't find any stamping of this one one of the wheels I checked ?

re: Maruti Suzuki Ritz : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Did a 90km+ roundtrip to airport and back last evening. The ride is definitely better, the handling has improved on single lane curvy roads with lesser body roll, and tyre noise is low (though wind noise is more perceptible at higher speeds!).

When going through potholes, undulating surfaces, the car doesn't sway left/right/up/down as much, so a big improvement over stock 165/80R14 JK tyres.

re: Maruti Suzuki Ritz : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Got the Yoka A-drives in 185/70 R14 size for my 2010 Ritz Lxi, the Jks served me for good 65k Kms prior to retiring. I was keen on XM2 but got a decent deal on A-drives so opted for these.

There is a drastic change in the way car rides, the road noise has also gone down by a great margin.

Yes, Yoko has a softer rubber than the stock Tornado's. I have heard that there are side wall problems with Yoko's as well as on XM2. Just keep us updated about the tyres performance after driving about 10 K.

re: Maruti Suzuki Ritz : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Will be getting delivery of my Ritz Zxi sometime soon which I am sure will be coming with JKs. I will be changing them as soon as I get delivery of the car. Was wondering if I should upsize to 195/70/R14 XM2's or stick to the stock size.

re: Maruti Suzuki Ritz : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Since Zxi comes with 185/70 R14 as std (alloy size is 5J I guess), it won't take 195 X-section. Moreover, will the 195/70 R14 size fall under 2% error wrt overall wheel dia? Just a suggestion, 195 might be an overkill actually for the Zxi; the stock size is ideal for the power it makes. Change to Yokos or Michelin in the stock size.

Congrats on your new car.. ZXI comes with JK - 185/70/14 tyre size from factory. I suggest you exchange JK with either XM or Bridgestone(ER 60/ AR 20)/ Yoko's. The best upsize for Ritz is 185/70/R14.
I dont think that there are any tyre size of 195/70/R14. What you might be looking for is 195/65/R14 which may scrape your car's wheel well when its is fully loaded.
