Dear All,

I have booked a GP and awaiting delivery. In the meanwhile, I am finializing on the accessories. I have booked the active variant which does not come with factory fitted alloys. I plan to go for 14" alloys (dont want to sacrifice the mileage for the sake of performance by going for 15" : please correct me if i am wrong when i assume that 15" would mean mileage takes a beating).

My question to gurus is what is the best size of tyres if I plan to go for 14" alloys.
I was suggested 185/65 by a couple of tyre dealers. Is this ok, or should i stick to the 175/70 as is given by the fiat for emotion variant.

Thanks in advance.

However, expect things to improve after the upgrade to better quality rubber. Regarding increasing rim size and going in for lower profile tires- The ride quality will suffer. If your local road conditions and your requirements permit, upgrade to 16" rubber.

Personally i like the VFM, Grip, Comfort and Availability combination offered by Yokohama db V550 tires.

I completely agree with , +1 to you
Some how thats what happened with my ride
I had the 14inch stock JK tornados and i really hated it since day one of ownership. I then decided to either stick to better tyres on 14 inchers stock rims or trade it off and settle for 15 inchers alloys with better rubber as the stock Emotion pk and the 195 section (C drive ) is just doing that - no complaints! I think she still has -0.70 error on the odo.
I have set of 4 wheels in 15 inchers alloys with C drives
Use the 5 sparewheel(stock Tornado's) as a babytyre..just in case
if i do end up having a flat tyre scenario

I think 15 inchers with 195 sections better tyres remains an ideal
upgrade - In my opinion

Cheers
TND

I am having an 1.4 Emotion with 175/70 R14 Bridgestone. How is the quality of Bridge stone. Noise is very high inside the cabin. What will be the ideal upgrade
1. Without changing wheel
2. With the option of changing wheel.

Will handling and ride improve lot by changing to alloys?

Vidyasagar,
You can refer to the table i have put in the previous page.
The tyre diameter is noway linked to mileage.
It is the width of the tyre that affects mileage.

More width=More friction=Less Mileage.
More diameter=error on the ODO thats all.

But in the case of the GP standard tyres, 15 inch tyres are wider as well. so the 15" will give you less FE but very negligible though (1km-2kms max).
When you are buying a Diesel, why are you so much worried about a kilometre of less FE

I'm waiting for options in 98PCD 16" alloys which is what i'm targetting. Linea TJet+ alloys are 11k per alloy so thats out of my budget.

Try to get michelin xm 1+ . They offer good mileage and grip , lasting in my front even after doing 21 k , another 12 k is assured .

re: Fiat Punto : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

I have bought the 15" fiat alloys and might recieve it in the next 2 days.
I'm now deciding the tyres and I have 3 options in mind.
What do you people suggest?

195/60 R15
205/55 R15
205/60 R15

Also suggest me the brand and the best place for the deal.

Stick to 195/60 R15 since the car isnt powerful enough to warrant 205s. With those you will probably see a drop in acceleration.

I would suggest 205/60 R15. Go for Yoko S drives. They are a bit noisier but have good life.

Hey Hemanth, good on you mate! how much did u pay for the alloys ?

About the tyres, I'm sure the gurus will advise you appropriately. I would endorse akshay1234 as well. Beside not being very-powerful, the 195 size is standard on the EP variants and hence there will be no warranty issues incase there are any foreseen issues with the suspension and stuff...

BTW, you could ping Nikhilb for quick response. He is from bangalore too.

I will "probably" see a drop in acceleration. But how much is the key to my decision. My only worry is, will there be any problem if I put the 205/60R15 tyres onto the stock rims?

I sure like the wide fat look but my only worry is what I have stated above.

This is one of the many advantages of being a TBHP member.
I bought these alloys from another fellow BHPian Raj_5004 who had put this in the classifieds section. We completed the deal for 21k for the 4 alloys. I wanted the Fiat ones and for a 2day old fiat alloys, this was a fair enough deal.

BTW, I have sent a PM to Nikhil already...awaiting his response.

re: Fiat Punto : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

With 195s it wont be too much but with 205s im sure it will be very noticeable. 195/60 r15 is the correct upsize and I suggest you stick to it.

Thankyou very much akshay for your suggestion...I'm now awaiting Nikhil's reply to the price and other details.
I'll anyway go to his "family shop" and check the tyres this weekend. After seeing the tyres physically, I can decide easily I believe.
For me, this is a Mind-over-Heart matter

Is there any BHPian who has put 205s on his/her punto who can give me the best feedback on the drop in acceleration???

195/60 section tyre would be the best. I wouldnt recommend the 205s for Punto.

The contact area to the road surface increases with a 205/60 R15 tyre. This can be benefitial in increasing the grip levels. It also helps in improving the braking. However, with an increse in the rolling resistance, the power delivered by the road wheels and the FE will go down. By how much? well, it can range from 5%-10%.

Here are some calculations. May be this will be helpful in your selection.

re: Fiat Punto : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

I'm running my 90HP punto on 205/60/R15 Yokohama V550 Db Tyres. Didn't go into much of the intricacies of calculating drop in FE / Odo error as I wanted these tyres for increased grip and comfort levels.
