Re: Fiat Punto : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Guys

Punto Dynamic Mjd. Running stock JK tyres tornado. Four tyres have worn off. One is reasonably fine. Total mileage has been 28k Kms.

I am surprised that JK tryes lasted only this long.

Now looking for change, I want suggestions on tyres that will improve the ride and have low noise. JK tyres were pretty bad on both counts and looking at their longevity, i hope to have a set that lasts atleast the next 40k Kms. The stock size is 165/80 R14. Should I Upgrade the size? I dont want to change the rims though.

Can this be done with a different brand of tyres or i need to change all four tyres at this stage?
Hey Saurabh, I would say change all 4 and keep a spare from your current set. Tyres are a very important aspect when it comes to safety and comfort. New set with timely rotation and balancing/alignment will last you for a good 40k kms and it will also enhance the ride quality. Lot of brands in the market, do your research on the forum and feel free to post here if you have any questions

I can suggest the below options:

1. On 14" steel rim - Go for 185/70 size tyres. Highly recommended.
2. Buy OE 15" steel rim, and Go for 195/60 size tyres.
3. Upgrade to 15" Alloys (OE or any 98 PCD aftermarket alloy) - Go for 195/60 size tyres.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Aston. I will retain the 6k kms old GY Duraplus and replace the the worn out tyres with new pair of GY Duraplus. Their grip along with ABS has never made me feel nervous or scary on road. Many other tyres might be way more better than this though. Apart from high noise is there any other issue with GY Duraplus. I can live with high noise because most of the time i have trance on my ICE.

Hi Ghodlur,

Thanks for the suggestions. I m not too keen towards Alloys.

Among your first two suggestions any significant advantages in upgrading the rims to 15 inchers?

Re: Fiat Punto : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

The 195/60/15 ZLOs on my Punto have done 37 K now. They've served well, and they'll last for another 5-6K. If tyre life is the primary consideration , what options are available ? Should I look at the Turanza AR 20 ? Don't want to buy Michelins.

Re: Fiat Punto : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Hi,

I was upgrading the tyres of my Punto Dynamic 1.3 to 185 70 R14. I'm confused between Apollo Acelere and Yoko A drive. I'm confused because my car will be parked in hot sun during the day as I do not have covered parking in office. So, I believe I need a tyre made of bit hard component to sustain the heat.

Kindly advice

A Drives are no longer available. you could consider the below tyres (185/70 R14) in the below order (prices ascending). The Continental and Michelin are better than Yokos.

1. Yokohama Earth 1
2. Continental Comfort Contact - CC5
3. Michelin - XM2

For 195 60 R 15, I was told only Apollo Alnacs are available. No more Aceleres. Not sure about 185 70 R14.

My take on Apollo Aceleres:
My Punto is currently running on Apollo Acelere (factory fit) with profile 195 60 R15 on factory alloys (mine is 90 HP emotion). The car is 1 year old and 38K kms run. The tyres will last for another 2K kms max.
I feel the tyres had worn out fast. I expected it to last atleast 50K kms considering my usage is mainly on highways and I do rotate the tyres every 10K Kms with alignment & balancing done every 5K kms.
Also, the tyre noise is on higher side beyond 20K kms.

@All -
I need your help to shortlist tyres for my Punto.
profile: 195/60/R15
usage pattern: 90% highways. 2-2.5K kms per month.
expectation: better ride comfort and should be silent.
budget: 6.5K per tyre (max)

I am planning to go for Michelin XM2 (safe bet as few of my friends are already having it on their cars) but would like to know:
  • how Yoko C drives, Pirelli, Continental fares compared to XM2?
  • is there any option better than XM2 available in market within my budget?

Re: Fiat Punto : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Mine is running on 185/70 R14 and I am planning to up-size to 195/70 R14. I will get 7mm more GC with much more softer ride. She has clocked ~1 lac and I don't throw her around the corners like I did in past! Anyone tried this? I don't think it will foul with the wheel well as I travel alone 99.999%

P.S. 195/70 R14 is the size recommended for Qualis!

Now my driving style is 50%city/highway and I have DieselTRONIC installed which I keep in P2 mode 80% of the times, I think this explains how the car is driven. But I drive safe.
OT: I am planning to put in either the RD or Pete in my Punto (Active, 2012 - 50K kms old). How is the RD? Would be great if you could provide a quick review / post a link to a review you might already have here. Apologies for going OT.

Hello guys,
My 2015 Punto Emotion is due for as tire change. Which tyres did you go with?
I am thinking of getting Earth 1 in stock size (195/60 R15).

Regards

I went for Michelin XM2. Happy with my decision so far (driven around 5000 kms).
