Re: Wheel Alignment & Balancing

I feel that my CBR is not aligned because the handle is slightly tilted towards right even when the bike is going on a straight line. Also there is slight wobble at speeds between 60-80 kmph.
The honda SVC in kandivali does not do wheel alignment and balancing. Can someone please suggest where can I get wheel alignment and balancing in mumbai.

I don't think bike wheels can be aligned and balanced from my research. The handlebars and fork needs to be adjusted instead

Hi, bike wheels can most definitely be balanced. Please check this thread where it's explained along with photos:

Re: Wheel Alignment & Balancing

Wow this is news to me indeed. I have asked a couple of alignment and balancing shops that I go to regularly for cars if they do it for bikes and they all said that bike wheels can't be balanced ! Maybe it's just very uncommon or some specialised tools are required that they don't have

Check the alignment of the rear wheel by the indications on the swing arm on either side. If this is correct then you will have to try out some other methods. The misaligned rear tyre might even be causing the wobble and it neednt be a balancing issue. Coming to the actual topic on who does balancing, in Bangalore we have Madhus who have a balancer for bikes. Apart from this there could be some other facilities who do static balancing only. But when it comes to dynamic balancing(weights based on sideway wobble) its only Madhus.

BMW X1 alignment issues

Hi,

I got the alignment done from outside and from BMW dealer but the problem of steering not being on centre remains. BMW guys tell me the front tyres needs to be replaced asap but I feel they have good amount of life left on them. Any suggestions?

Do you mean the car is pulling to the sides OR did you mean the steering is off-center? but car is tracking correctly?

If it is just pulling, the first thing to do is swap the tyres from another side, if they are not directional it is easy, if not you need to remove and refit. The assumption is alignment readings are correct.

Edit: From the looks of it, the tyre has maybe 2-3k kms life left.

Re: Wheel Alignment & Balancing

I mean the steering is off-center. I got the tyres rotated regularly. Front tyres tread depth is at 4-4.2mm my tyre guy says another 10-12k kms for them.

Re: Wheel Alignment & Balancing

If it is off-centre by a huge margin, then the only way is to remove the wheel and re-align it on the column. Minor ones can only be managed by alignment. Again assuming the rack is centred properly otherwise. You might want to show a picture of the steering wheel, as to how much it is off-centre to comment further.

Re: Wheel Alignment & Balancing

steering is off by 10 degree towards the left, meaning I have to keep the wheel tilted left for the car to keep straight. Another thing I noticed is all 4 tyres show camber wear, more worn towards the outside than inside.

Can you ask your dealer to show you the alignment report? Normally they will not give you with invoice but if you ask your Service Adviser,he/she may share it with you. In there you will get to see the specifications and how tolerant your vehicle is to the standards.

Re: Wheel Alignment & Balancing

Attached alignment report from BMW dealer. I think this was done on a Hunter machine. The steering still remains off-center

The Camber and Toe Data seem to be within tolerance if we compare to the 'Target' given in the specifications sheet. However, I have seen that alignment machines give a unusually high tolerance compared to the recommendation given by the manufacturer. For eg. In Camber, they have mentioned +/- 25 minutes in tolerance which I believe should note be more then 10 minutes.

Anyway, the best way is to adjust the steering wheel by removing and re-centering. Being a new generation car with smart steering, this job is best left to a professional.

Re: Wheel Alignment & Balancing

Could it be due to worn tires?
