CRV2010 --- You definitely need A drives or XM1+s. Both are very good.

As for alloys, you can also look at SSW wheel. http://www.stamfordwheels.com/

The quality is definitely better than Plati, etc....

If you are going in for alloys, I would suggest 165/65 R13.

185/60

Good brands in alloys Lenso, Konig, HR, League (what I find in Delhi). CRV, head to Nikhil's shop.
thank you tsk13

175/60 R13 is a little too wide for Santro. I wont recommend it. You dont need that much. Also, with 175/60 R13, you dont have too many good options. Only A539. In 165/65 R13, you can go in for XM1+ also.

Thanks tsk i was looking for that or 165.

BTW there is a slight issue air is leaking very slowly from one tyre. I know its because of the steel rims,But is there any remedy,They said the rims were perfect without any bends or cracks,Still ??
Is there any way to fix it ??

Cheers W

You're welcome CRV and Winzee.

Regarding Winzee's query, please search the forum. There must be something relevant which can resolve your issue.

Hello Nikhil,

My friend is planning to changes tyres of his Santro. He will not upgrade to alloys and stay with stock rims. I was suggesting him to go for XM1+ 165/65/R13. But he was worried whether the stock rims would fit in. What do you say?

Also, what is the approximate price of XM1+ ??

165/65 does fit on stock rims of a Santro without an issue.

Guys,

I was wondering if i can install stock 13" steel rims of getz or i10 and put 175s on it? I do not plan to invest on the alloys right now, And also how does 165 perform over the stock 155s? how much would it cost?
I'm looking for better grip, smoother drive and a rubbery feel upon hitting the pot holes and cosmetic looks too

i10's stock rims are 4" and 175s will not fit on them. Try to get the Accent's rims. Accent comes with 175/70 R13 as OE and I guess the rims are 5J

Firstly iam no tyre guru, and my comments here are solely on basis of experience.

I have used 175/60/r13 on stock santro erlx 4” wide rims. 175/60/R13 is not too wide for 13” steel rims. I have used them for 2 yr this way and there is no sign of excessive wear on any 4 tyres. i have done 18k on steel rims. iam not always sedated driver and this setup has been pushed to 160, santro's max, with no abnormal tyre wear.

I have attached a picture of my car with 175 on 4 “ rims.

If you are on a very tight budget, you can use 175 on stock rims, later put alloys.

overall 175 is perfect for a santro. to see how these same tyres fit aftter putting alloys with 38 offset, take a look at my garage. stock rims are 44 or 46 offset so the wheel sit a bit inside the wheel arch and alloys are 38, so the tyres come out a bit, but still perfect with no contact to the metal body or plastic fitting in the wheel well.

I should have put it the other way, its not impossbile but not recommended.

I'm also no tyre guru but when I wanted to install 175s on my i10, my tyre dealer, who infact is a guru, told me that you at least need a 4.5J for a 175.

There has to be a reason for the minimum and recommended rim width. From what I know, the chance of excessive tyre pinch is very high on your setup.

rim width

Here is what rim-width calculator shows up for 175/60R13 size.

min: 5x13 ; max: 6.5x13

rim-width calculator available here, Car Bibles : The Wheel and Tyre Bible Page 3 of 4

Same page also talks about 'too wide or too narrow' rim widths, extract pasted below.

Quote:
A rim that is too narrow in relation to the tyre width will allow the tyre to distort excessively sideways under fast cornering. On the other hand, unduly wide rims on an ordinary car tend to give rather a harsh ride because the sidewalls have not got enough curvature to make them flex over bumps and potholes.
