175/70 r13 it is.
They fit perfectly, no scraping, and look good too.
Well, as much as they can.

Re: Upgrading wheels/tyres on Santro

The tyres on my Santro are due for change again.

I went to my regular dealer to inquire about Michelin XM2 in 165/65/R13 and he informed that he has not received stock for this size from Michelin for about 5 - 6 months.

Has Michelin stopped manufacturing this size? Any updates?

Also, the dealer offered Bridgestone B290 in same size. Any reviews/feedbacks on this?

This January i changed the tyres of my santro from 155/70 R13 to 165/65 R13 with the existing steel rims. I got them changed at Hercules Tyres at Seshadirpuram. The dealer also purchased the old tyres at Rs 100 each. I opted for Apollo tube tyres as budget was my constraint. May be you can try to contact him if he has your requirements (Assuming you are in bangalore)

The car is in Mangalore and is on alloys running michelin xm1+ 165/65/13.

I wanted to stick to Michelin but I guess will have to settle with Bridgestone B290. These are cheaper than Michelin at Rs. 3370 each.

Hope the Bridgestone is atleast close to the quality of Michelin if not same. Anyone here has any experience with Bridgestone?

Re: Upgrading wheels/tyres on Santro

Replaced 6 year old, 51k kms run Yoko A-drives on Santro with Goodyear DuraPlus. Single tyre cost Rs. 3100, total cost for 5 tyres Rs. 15,800 including wheel balancing & balancing weights.

Re: Upgrading wheels/tyres on Santro

Folks

I wish to go for black color wheel rims for my Santro Xing. Is there any shop in Bangalore that deals with new/second hand black wheel rims.
Also is there any shop in Bangalore that takes the current wheel rims for a negotiable price ?

Bridgestone are not too bad. At one time they were the only OE tyres on Hyundais. Did you check whether Michelin have one of their other tyres in the size available.

XM2 (replacement for the damage prone XM1) are popular but others are also there.

Could anyone elaborate as to why 175/70 would be a wrong upgrade? A profile of 60/65 would be compromising on the ground clearance (though marginally), right?
Am I missing something here?

Re: Upgrading wheels/tyres on Santro

If you consider the stock size (155/70 R13), the tyre OD comes to 547.2 mm. I opted for 165/65 R13 for which the tyre OD comes to 544.7 mm. As per guidelines, the difference in tyre diameter between the current and modified tyre should be less than +/- 3%.
If you consider 175/70 R13, the tyre OD comes to 575.2 mm. Perhaps this may foul with the car under body. I am no tyre expert but this could be the reason.

Re: Upgrading wheels/tyres on Santro

Hi
I have a question on goodyear tyres on my santro. They are stock 155/70 R13 sized. I have completed 28.5K in 3.5 years and recently during my trip to Mangalore the car started wobbling slightly. I checked and found with more people onboard wobbling is more at around 40kmph speed. When I showed to service person he said tyres are hardened. Now there can be only two possibilities since they are not that old tyres.

1. The service person has no clue about the issue.
2. The goodyear tyres are having a real genuine issue.

I feel point 1 above makes more sense since the tyre grooves are still very good. They are asking me to replace the tyres. Can somebody help here about goodyears? I have never used goodyear before. My older santro had tubed bridgestones and I used them till mindblowing 70K.

Regards

Hi,

I am facing the exact same issue of my santro zing which has MRF tyres. One SA and local mechanic have both told me that tyres are gone hard and that is the reason for the wobbling.

Do you have any updates on your problem, was that fixed

No Sir, Am living with same tyres. Only thing is I am not using my Santro for long distance drives anymore so no issues at lower speeds. Will change to Michelins after 40K or so since it is a matter of 15K to 20K rupees.
Also these stock Goodyears got punctured a multiple times as of now. One of them got chipped off on side walls and I had no choice but to replace it with another goodyear. Surprisingly the new goodyear is really good
My concern is why these stock goodyears are so pathetic? Well once I reach 40K will keep the newer goodyear as stepney and replace the remaining 4 with Michelins.
Coming to the wobbling issue, they simply rotated the tyres and I feel the wobble is kind of gone/reduced. Maybe you can give a similar try.

Re: Upgrading wheels/tyres on Santro

Upgraded my Santro Xing tyres last December from 155/70 R13 Apollo Aceleres to 165/65 R13 Michelin Energy XM 2's. The outgoing set had lasted more than 5 years and had gotten extremely noisy. Also, in the two months prior to the change, there were 2 punctures against the ZERO punctures in the preceding 5 years!

Got June 2016 manufactures tyres (2516) in December from my local dealer (Sri Krishna Tyres, Vellore) at Rs. 15,800/- for a set of 4 with WA/WB. I have covered ~2200 km since the tyre change and the following are my observations!
  • Road noise has reduced drastically
  • Grip levels are better - Able to corner at higher speeds more confidently
  • Comfortable cruising highway speeds have increased by 10-15 kmph! Maybe because of the lesser road noise.
  • Holding air much better than the old Aceleres
Outgoing Aceleres:

New Michelins!

What year model your Santro is? Did they fit perfectly on stock rims?
I too am looking for same tyres for my Santro, 2013 Model. What I understood from Tyre Empire shop in HSR that Santro's rims cannot take any size beyond 155/70 R13. Anything bigger needs the rims to be changed.
