Upgrading wheels/tyres on Santro

Hey all Santro Folks, I have no clue how I missed out on this thread completely!!

I have a '07 Xing which came with Alloys and 175/60 Bridgestone rubber since it was a Limited Edtion launch, for which I got to choose the rubber!!

Just this year, on the ocassion of my Sunshine baby's 3rd B'day I did somthng that left many people gawping!!

I went ahead and broke all the rules, installed a 15" Veloche Alloys with 195/45/78V Nankang Rubber!!

Ride has Obviously become a bit rough but I can live with it since I dont transport any patients in my Car!!
Have not seen any decrease in FE or Performance, ironically the Car feels more stable at speeds of 150kmph+.
Best of all, People Just cant stop staring at my ride and guess they wonder "WHERE IN THE BLUE HELL DID HE GET THAT FROM" !!

Many of my fellow bhpians have seen these snaps but just to stay in the flow, here are some of them!!

Hope you had meant 165/65R13 on stock rim. 165/70R13 isn't correct upgrade for santro.
165/65R13 can be mounted on stock rim size 13x4J although alloys/steel wheel with 13x5J would be preferred.

I meant 165/70 so that the ride quality doesn't decrease. Rear suspension in santro is not that great and using a low profile tire would detoriate it all the more. Is it possible to install a 155/75or(80) like the i10's?

Santro's stock tyre offset is around 46 or 38, experts may correct me if I am mistaken.

What kind of alloy is this ? that too in 13" size ?

Avoid them.

The stock offset of Santro is 46.

dear tyre gurus

i been running on OE bridgestone S322 155/70R13 on my santro since 2004. my odo has clocked 30250kms. there is still some thread left. but hell with it. i'm gonna change to 165/65R13 tubeless. just confused which one to choose amongst the ones available. my running is absolutely low. no long rides. all within the city limits. not everyday use. sometimes the car isnt used for 2 - 3 months since i go for an occasional vacation to the gulf.

here are my choices

1) Bridgestone ER-60 Turanzas
2) Bridgestone B250 ( successor to S322 )
3) Michelin XM1 ( dont know if XM1+ has the size i'm looking for )
4) Apollo Acceleres
5) Yokohama A-drive

my requirements:

it should be slightly on the softer side ( not as much as the michelins ) i never had problems with the S322 or any road noise as such. maybe i've never driven anything with michelins before. also i want the tyres to last really really long. maybe 60000kms or more. Also if the tyre gurus can explain to me which amongst yoko or bridgestone is a bigger and better brand. also what is DONUTS? please kindly explain

Dont bother with the B250s.

Consider only the others.

All are decent tyres. They will all satisfy you. And none of them will last you 60,000 kms! But why should it matter? In all probability to finish the life of the tyres(around 50,000 kms), it will take you ten years! And it isnt recommended to keep a tyre for so long anyway!

The Michelin would give you fantastic ride comfort. And it isnt that soft that it will get damaged easily. It is quite rugged.

DOnut was a brand of Bridgestone earlier. Like how you have potenza, Energy, etc.... It is no more except in B250 and it isnt that great.

thanks a ton for your advice nikhil. i'll probably stick to the turanzas. i've heard that they have a reenforced sidewall which makes them look really wide compared to the other brands of the same spec. wat is your say? i've already bought 13 X 5J alloys. just waiting for the best set of rubber for the same. another query. apart from the steel rims getting bent, is there any possibility of the wheel disc getting bent? i'm referring to the part where the wheel is attached to the car. this part. if so how do i rectify this?

no. not the disc brakes. the part to which the wheel gets mounted onto. i dont know what is it called, wanted to know if these were likely to bend or is it that only the wheels which bend?

You mean the hub? The wheels are mounted on to the bolts on the hubs. No, have never heard of a hub getting bent, it can only happen if you have a severe accident.

yup. the hub to be precise

coz i remember during the last service when the car was lifted, i rolled the tires to see if they rolled perfectly. but the right rear tire was kind of misaligned

so i guess it must be the wheel bend?

One of the tyres on my Santro has got damaged. Other four tyres are good for another 5 - 6K km. Car has done approx 45000 km. The tyres are original and stock (with tube) running on original stock steel rims. I am planning to buy one Michelin 165/65R-13 XM1+, mounted on the stock steel rim (tubeless) to be used as spare tyre. I will be running the car on the four original tyres for 5000-6000 km and will change the other tyres too to Michelin 165/65R-13 XM1+ when the need arises.
Is the plan OK? Or is there a better way to go about solving the dillema I am in? Please help.
