How good are Apollo Acelere, I have seen a offer on snapdeal

Apollo - Acelere - 155/70 R13 (75 H) for Rs. 10299 (2 years Brand warranty) also, has doorstep installation for Rs. 199.

Goodyear - DuraPlus - 155/70R13 (75T) for Rs. 9311 (5 years Brand warranty)

If I was in your place I would go for the Apollo deal. The price is very reasonable and you are getting around 1500 worth of benefits with the wheel balancing/alingment and instalation. Also remember to use Nitrogen if available there for filling the tryes It does keep rust at bay and runs much cooler.

Other than the commercials there's nothing technically to stop you from going with either if your usage is standard, and you are not overly finicky.

By standard usage I mean, you couldn't care less if the tyre made a little more noise, or feels a little rough going over bumpy road, or don't plan to take your car over non-tarmac surface all the time.

9 times out of 10 , choice of specialized tyres by finicky buyers are more the product of their over-active imagination, high levels of disposable income, 'keeping up with the Joneses' rather than a rational assessment of need vs capability of the standard tyre.

Over useful life of the tyres (~4 to 5 years) , there's greater probability of tyre failure due to sidewall damage, than damage due to Quality issues (e.g. blowout/tread separation). So rest easy-as most all brands, have good QC in place.


I would recommend your getting the tyre from a Company authorised dealer and check the date of manufacture before putting money down. This is not possible with e-tailers. That's why it's better to buy the tyres from the retailer so that you can satisfy yourself that everything is in order.

Though it is an online offer, I reached out a local dealer with the same and she happily agreed to offer me the same.

I will check the year of manufacturing before getting them, thanks for the advise

Today replaced my Santro's OEM Bridgstone S322 tyres with same S322 , but only 4nos, Retained one old tyre as 5th backup.

OEM tyres ran for 39000 kms and 9 years plus :-) , it has become hard and minor cracks visible. So, change was long due.

Costed me : 3250/- each [with Balancing + Alignment]
Mfg : 2814 on tyre [ 28th week of 2014 ] .

The dealer did not budge on bridgestone even for a penny but was willing to give good deals in Apollo Accelere, Amazer and even on CEAT.

Hope I have got a fair deal ?

I observed most of the new cars with Apollo Accelere, Amazer, JK tyre, MRF, Ceat tyres, I believe even these are more or less give same performance and durability compared to Bridgestone and Yoko's.

I assume it all depends upon the size of car, may be we have to consider B's & Y's for bigger cars and brands especially for off-roaders as they are performance vehicles.

A quick Google search says the stock rims are 4" wide and therefore not suited for fitment of 175/70 tyres as these tyres are approved for fitment on 4.5" - 6" wide rims.
Still, you should check the rim yourself to confirm its width.

The current rim specifications are 13" 5J for 155/70 R13. First of all i am not sure if 175/70 R13 are available. AFAIK 175/60 tyres are available. In fact i am using 165/65 R13 for my santro xing with the current rim. If one wants to go for 175/60 R13, the rim/alloy wheel spec should be 5.5J or so.

5" is perfectly fine for a 175/70 tyre.

From what I understand, 175/70R13 is available in:

Apollo Acelere
Michelin Energy XM2
Yokohama A-Drive
Brisgestone Turanza ER60
Bridgestone B250

There are of-course more options, I've only listed what I feel are decent tyres (they are all in the range of 3,600 to 4,000 per tyre based on a preliminary enquiry I made).

Got the gt3 175/70 for the Santro finally.
They fit in the stock rim just fine.

175/70 is a wrong upsize. 175/60 would be the correct upsize for Santro. The stock tyres are 155/70. Could you confirm?

Yes you are spot on. The correct upgrades for Santro are 165/65 R13,175/60 R13 and 185/60 R13.
