Team-BHP - Chevy Beat : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

I am planning to buy Chevy beat LT option pack, the tyres are way too narrow. so I want to go for an upgrade. I need to know the best upgrade possible and what are the Tyre and brand options and the best possible prices in Delhi. the tyre size is 155/70 R14 and don't want to up size to 15" as the OEM alloys are pretty decent, So wan't to know all the possible options in 14" with prices. thanks

Are you aware of the Rim size ? I guess the alloys are 4.5J or 5J.

Your possible upsizes are 165/65 R14, 175/60 R14 and 185/60 R14.

I would recommend the 175/60 R14. Enough bling and handling will be better compared to OE tyres. The overall diameter difference is 1.25% which means your speedo will show 101.25 kmph when you're actually doing 100 kmph.

The correct size is 175/65-14 and not 175/60-14. 175/60-14 means the OD will reduce by 7mm. Although marginal smaller diameter will not fill the wheel arch up.

175/65-14 is 10mm up on overall diameter and will do just fine.

The alloys are 4.5J so 185/60-14 will not be advisable as rim is not wide enough to take these.

thanks guys, even i was planning to go for 175 width, so according to you 175/65 r14 would be perfect, right. I hope the OE alloy would fit just fine.

Now can you please tell me which tyre to go in for, i was inclined to buy the Yoko A drives as per lot of positive reviews. are there any other options to go in for and need to know the best prices and where to buy them from in south delhi or gurgaon. I drive a civic, so am used too good speeds and good grip levels. I am pretty new to tyre upgrades, so need alll the possible help. i require good grip level on higher speeds and comfortable and silent ride at low speeds. i don't like lot of Tyre noise so the performance oriented tyres are out of question as i believe they make a racket. What would i fetch for the OE tyres, i think they are apollo, though not sure.

3.7k is a good price for the Michelins. Yoko price is also decent.

Yoko C drive isnt available in that size. It's available in 185/60 R14 which is a perfect match for the Beat but it wont fit on the OE alloys(I've been told that the alloys are 4.5j). 175/65 R14 will fit comfortably on the OE alloys.

Buyback of 155/70 R14 is ridiculous.

This is the reason.

This 155/70 R14 size fits ONLY one car in the country. If a dealer buys it back, he simply cannot clear it from his stock. He will have to wait until some Beat owner comes to him and asks for a single tyre or two tyres if he has damaged a tyre or something like that.

Simply because of this reason, you will not get a good value at all for your OEM size tyre.

However, if the Beat proves to be a runaway success in the market, then obviously you can get a better rate for it. But it will take a year or more for that to happen.

I'm saying this from past experience. When the Swift was launched, it was the only car to have 165/80 R14 tyres. This resulted in the resale value being very very low. But as the sales of the Swift took off, the resale value also increased.

So, for guys buying the Beat in the near future, I would suggest you keep the tyres and then fit them on the car when you are selling it. But store it away from excessive heat, cold and moisture.

If you dont want to take the trouble, just take whatever the dealer offers you. Maybe 700-800/- bucks a tyre.

this sucks, 800 bucks for the stock tyres, i was relying on the buyback of stock tyres, i had a figure of atleast 1.5k for each tyre. Anyways do you think i can get a lower price in BK tyres. pls vote, yoko's or michelin for beat. is there a need to go for all 5 tyres or just four would be fine and keep the stepney stock and use it for short distances only incase of punctures.

Well, in that case, dont sell your tyres. Just keep them and hope the resale value goes up. In any case, dont expect 1.5k. That is just a pipe dream.

Yoko, Michelin both are good. It depends on your personal preference. I'm in favour of going for only 4 tyres mainly because you lose a lot of money by upgrading the fifth tyre as well.

I suggest going in for 4 tyres and doing a 4-wheel rotation.

the guy at R autozone at ambience mall was offering me 1800+175 for tyre+rims. After reading comments from Nikhil I'll check with the guy once again.

I just want to upgrade the tires in my Beat LT which tires would fit on the steel wheels? I have no idea about the size except they are 14 inches. The lady at the showroom couldn't tell me any details about the wheels as well.

Can anyone suggest me shops in gurgaon to find good alloys and tyres. I know there are scores of them around sector14 and bus adda but want to know few specific ones where I can find a good variety and a good bargain. Also do you guys agree that I can get a great deal in Karol Baug or I can manage here in gurgaon. I dont want to drive all the way down to Karol baug and just make my deal better by 1000 rs.
