re: Ford Figo : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Hi Guys,

I am a new entrant to the team-bhp family although I have been tracking posts for quite sometime now(you can say was part of extended family).

Just wanted to share an update that I upgraded the tyres and alloys on my 3.5 year old Ford Figo. Got rid of the stock goodyear which had done 30k kms, I would never ever go back to the goodyears in my life, horrible tyres.

I upgraded to Michelin XM2 185/65 R14 and Plati alloys. Wheel alignment is a bit off currently which I plan to get it fixed soon, but overall a whole lot satisfied and its like my Figo has got a whole new lease of life after the upgrade. The chassis still scrapes at speed breakers which I had hoped would be sorted out a bit after upgrading but unfortunately has not helped much as of now.

I can now drive the car with much more confidence with the increased grip and braking too has improved a bit although not much as I expected!

Pictures follow, looks a lot better in front than in photo, not sure why though

Congrats on the new alloys and tires. Looks excellent on the car.

Could you please share the alloy cost details?

I know these guys well, they will not rip you off, but then you would have to work hard to get the same for 12 - 13K. I am presuming you are talking about the alloys.

Yes its about the alloys. I had been to J.C. road on Nov 1st which happens to be Kannada Rajyotsava and unfortunately most of the shops were closed. This one too was not fully open but were just cleaning the shop when I enquired and managed to get the alloys. I got it fit in the shop where I purchased the tyres, he did not charge extra because of the understanding they have. 14k for alloys and 1k for nuts, is 1k for nuts justified?16+1 super nuts, was not sure on the price but did jot have much options too. He has assured me of 5yrs warranty on the alloys.

13K with nuts would have been good enough but then if he is giving you 5 years warranty on alloys which should include cracks and bends, it's fine.

Thanks! Also I paid 4850/- per tyre(Michelin XM2 R14 185/65).

I plan to keep this car for another 3-3.5 yrs considering it is already 3.5 yrs old!

re: Ford Figo : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Hi,

I was using Michelin XM1+ 185/65R14 in my Figo TDCi from the start. It is more than 40K now (and two and half years). For the last couple of weeks, i am seeing the tyre noise level increased. Even though there are sufficient thread left, i am thinking of replacing them. Looking forward your suggestions.

- I am planning to keep the same upsize 185/65R14.
- I am happy with XM1+ except for the recent tyre noise. Would like to know if any better alternate
- My priorities are: quite / comfort / Better road grip
- My usage is mostly on good roads with yearly two or three highway trips

Regards
Deva

I've got a Petrol Figo Titanium with stock alloys and 175/65 r14 mrfs (stock). I'm planning to replace these with Yoko A or C drives or the MRF ZLO - both 195/60 r14.
My question:
1. Will 195 sections fit into the stock alloys?
2. I'm really keen on directional tread type tyres - are they better than normal ones?

I realize that 195s will be overkill for the Figo but I'm ok with the that since they look great!

re: Ford Figo : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Planning to get new tires for our Figo TDCi Titanium. Looking for 185/65/R14 profile tires. I hope it won't be an overkill compared to the OEM size of 175/65/R14.

Can anyone please recommend good shops in Kochi?

Just a suggestion. 185/60 R14 will be a better upsize from 175/65 R14 considering the overall circumference won't be affected much.

Thanks predatorwheelz. I'm not worried about the overall circumference but will 185/65/R14 scrape the insides of wheel well?

I've been running 185/60 R14 and its a better upgrade from the stock size. 185/65 will not scrape the insides but the ride will become a little bouncy. I would suggest 60 profile to 65.

I run 185/70 considering the depth of potholes in and around cochin!

Underbelly remains unkissed! The tire in that big profile doesn't foul any other thing. However, it is a huge increase of GC. I drive sedately, so not a problem for me. Also the soft and big sidewalls make it a bit more plush!

Thanks Sedate. I will most likely go for 185/65/R14. Where did you get the tires in Kochi?

Saw your signature. Me too having an 800 5-speed and the Figo will be replacing it.
