re: Ford Figo : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Is the XM1+ 185/65 R14 not available in Chennai ? My Nephew wanted to fit them on his new Figo, which he is taking today !! Dealer says he needs to wait for 15 days for this size.

Yes. There is a supply problem with 185/65-14 XM1+s.

XM1+ makes the steering very light at slow speeds. I use 195/60-14 XM1+ and steering has become too light than I would like, at slow speeds. I strongly suggest Bridgestone Potenza GIIIs in 185/65-14 which has better ride quality than XM1+.

Prass,
But the Potenza G III is unidirectional, so tyre interchanging is gonna be difficult ! And yes he has managed to source XM1+ in 185/65 size and will be fitting them today. Also as he is going for a higher aspect ratio 65 i feel the ride will be better. I recently fitted the BS ER 60 205/65 R15 on my Octavia and am thrilled, but sadly ER 60's don't come in 185/65 R14

If the OEM spare tyre is retained, tyre rotation is not going to be an issue in Unidirectional tyres. The tyres can be swapped on the same side between front and rear. The spare tyre can be put on any side during emergencies.

Prass,
Correct, but he plans to change the spare too, as the original spare is 175/65 and he is getting a good deal swapping all five wheels to alloys too.

It seems to be rust. Nothing to worry about. Rust is quite common in those parts.

re: Ford Figo : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

I had to settle for 175/65 size since i found it quite hard to procure 185/65. Have done 14K km on the new xm1+. Love them for the comfort and road hugging nature. But they tend to screech much more often than my earlier accellere. Not that i loose grip but the screeching sound is heard more often.

I now have an option to get 15 inch alloys. Should i get them and go for 195/55's???

Also what price can i expect for a 14K done Xm1+

I would say go for it! Definitely worth it, if you get the right tyre ...

What tire pressure are you maintaining ?

You would hardly get anything for your 14k done XM1

Hi...i don't think 195/55 is a practical option for the Figo. You car will look good, but such a low aspect of 55 may not be Ok for Trivandrum narrow roads where you often have to drop the offside tyres off the tarred roads.
Pl. also check if you will be further lowering GClearance with 195/55.

Also refer to expert Nikhil's post 127 in this very thread.

re: Ford Figo : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Lets put some numbers on the table, and let them do the talking. You interpret these numbers according to your situation.

175/65R14 (stock)
Rolling Radius = 291.55mm
sidewall height = 113.75mm

195/55R15 (upsize)
Rolling Radius = 297.75mm (+6.2mm, +2.08% when compared to stock)
sidewall height = 107.25mm (-6.5mm when compared to stock)
