I changed the stock tires(MRF ZV2K 175/65 R14) on my car to Yoko Earth 1 185/65 R14 after covering nearly 50000 kms. The Yokos costed about 4200 Rs a tire which included wheel alignment and nitrogen filling, I had to pay about 100 a tire for wheel balancing.

The ride quality has improved a lot and I can see an immediate change in handling which obviously you can see with any new tire but I have a feeling that the braking is not as good as it used to be. I take the highway everyday to work and I feel I need to brake earlier than what the MRFs demanded. If I brake at the same point like how I used to with my old set of tires the truck in front of me becomes bigger way too quick . Does any of the Yoko users feel the same? The comfort is top notch but I think the braking efficiency is not good.

I have them on my Fiesta and find them to be better than MRFs. How much has the car run on new tires? May be the top protective layer is still there?

I've done about 150 kms so far, Probably as you say I think I should give the tire sometime to scrub and set in. And its been wet in Madras over the past 3 days so not sure if that's not letting the tire to scrub and work properly.

Hi all,
I got my Classic tyres upgraded from the stock 175-65 R14 to 185-70 R14 Michelin Energy XM2

Car has got some good clearance now and the best is the cushion effect of XM2s, I just love that. Going over potholes and all with ultimate confidence and the effect of potholes inside car cabin is really negligible when compared to the previous Goodyear GT3. Yet to do my usual 600kms lap between Kottayam and Bangalore post which I can give more details. Have just done local running of around 300kms as of now with the new set of tyres

I changed from stock to Yoko Earth 1s at 54K km for my Figo TDCI. Currently clocking 75K and the last 21K km has been puncture free. I know thats sheer luck but coincidentally, the Yoko Geolandars on My Outlander have been puncture free as well for 17K Km

The ride has been smooth too.

I visited Ashoka Wheels at Minister Road today for a quote of Yokos and Michellins. The Earth 1 cost Rs 4000 a tyre, while the XM2s cost Rs 4700 each. There is an extra charge of Rs 600 for WA/WB and N2 filling.

The total cost for Yokos works out to Rs 16600 while the Michellins are Rs 2800 extra. I was told both are on par, with the Michellins having a slender edge on comfort and noise. I think I'll go for the Yokos sometime in July. They are available of May 2016 vintage, while the Michellins are of April 2016.

I took a picture of both, and found the Yokos good looking too (though both are of 15 inch diameter)

Last Sunday our Figo Petrol (entered into her 7th year of service recently) underwent the much needed tyre upgrade @ 40,550 KMs

PLATI Alloys (4 Nos) - Rs. 18000

Discount/buy-back of old Rims/Tyres - Rs. 800

Final damage to pocket (including Credit Card charges) - Rs. 33000/-

Looks super cool in new shoes with increased ground clearance close to 1.5 cms

If the cost delta is ignored, what would you recommend? My figo is at 40K km after 4.5 yrs and stock apollos are horribly hard now, plus one has a side wall cut. I am inclined towards Michelins since my prev Ikon had XM1+ which were just awesome. My dad's santro recently was upgraded to XM2 and that also have been impressive. Earth1 are supposed to be more entry level compared to XM2, so I am assuming some premium would be there.

Sure thing, will wait for your feedback. My urgency for the moment is reduced as the tire which has a small side wall cut, i have put a tube and placed it as stepney. Since the Figo is mainly a city car, I think its ok and I give it few months before taking the plunge.

With 49562 clicks on the odo, I decided to change my Figo's tyres last Sunday. The XM2s could have easily lasted another 2 to 3 thousand kms (at least 2 were good), but as I was driving the Bangalore and giving the car to my daughter, I thought it was prudent to change.

The Yokohama Earth 1's costed me 16600, but after I exchanged the stock Apollo stepney tyre, that was unused, I had to pay only Rs 15000. I have put the best tyre of the XM2s as the new stepney, as it is a 185/65, compared to the stock Apollo which was 175/65. The cost included WA/WB and N2 filling.

I drove to Bangalore the very next day, and here's my feedback based on the 600 kms drive: The Yoko's grip a bit better than the XM2s in corners and on wet roads, and have better braking grip. The XM2s on the other hand are about 5% more silent at high speeds and also a wee bit more comfy on potholes.

The only issue I found with the new tyres was that at speeds nearing the top end of the Figo, the rear left seemed to be stepping out a bit. I guess it has something to do with improper WA/WB and not with the tyres. In any case my daughter will never be driving at such speeds, so I think I'll get it checked up at Bangalore when i visit next.

Mine are 185/65, that cause a 2% error on the speedo. I have them on the Figo from day 1 and on the Fiesta for the past 3 years. I think 185/70 might cause scraping of tyres on full lock position. Most people on this forum have gone for 185/65.

I just realized that with the 2% error, the car had done 50553 kms on the XM2s, after adding 991 kms (2% of 49562)

Just wondering was the rear stepping out during hard braking at high speeds? that typically is a sign of unbalanced braking. I doubt the tires would have a role to play there since all 4 are the same with similar levels of grip.

It can be due the tyres being new , they are settling in. Rear would have felt light because of this as well as weight bias being more on the front tyres.
