Today I tested Alto with 145/80 R12 XM1+ with Plati Alloys and drive started from Mysore road Shell Bunk. Did Tank Full and then drove towards Kengeri then turn left to NICE expressway and reach till Bannergatta road end and take right U turn come back and proceed in NICE road untill Tumkur road end and then right U turn and back to Mysore road and fill in same Shell Petrol Bunk for really full tank.

80km consumed 4.17 ltr, we filled very slowly and shaked the car to make sure tank is full.
FE: 19.1kmpl , No use of AC.
Speeds: 60-70kmph and 10km real fast drive of 120+ upto 140kmph to test the tyres.
Speeds over 120kmph Car vibrates slightly, but still its much much better than stock tyres.
Excellant Braking ability with brilliant handling.

OT: Imagine Innova with Michellin MXV8 225/60 R15 tyre. Man I cant wait to buy Innova and upgrade the tyre to Michellin.

Possible -ve point about Michellin tyre: If not driven carefully I am sure tyre won't last long in indian condition. Its soft rubber make tyre mess (less life) for sure :( when we bump into sharp potholes with high speeds/full load.

Conclusion: If Michellin lasts around 30,000km its still very much worth Its Silent and gives real comfy ride.

Regards,

Ravi.

if you keep the two tyres 155/65 R13 and 155/70 R12 you will hardly find any difference at all.
I second that.. My alto Vxi is running on 155/65 R3 Michelins XM1 and its brilliant... and in the wet its super... lots of confidence!

i am enjoying every milimeter of drive with the michelins. i observed that on my office road when i used to accelerate till 70 and then pull off my leg from the accelerator my alto used to climb the slope and then come down to 40 before i used to brake at the signal.
now the same patch when i pull off my leg from the accelerator the car keeps moving at the same speed and i have to brake at speeds of 60. there is hardly any rolling resistance. ultra smooth , pin drop silence.

Ravi.

A lot of their tyres sold here come from China.

Ravi, your car was vibrating at higher speeds not because of tyre but because of faulty alignment.

I did 140kmph from Dobbspet - Tumkur and didnt realize that i am going that fast (I was following Vaseem's SX4). Mainly tyre noise was same and handling at corners were always great.

The best part of MIchelins are on wet roads. It is as if you are driving on a dry roads. This is the biggest difference I saw from my Stock tyres to the present set.

Now coming the soft tyres and all. That will not make much difference as you are not doing rally or skidding every now and then. My tyres are done 22K kms now and it looks new. I am sure it should last more than 30K km. I do 5 wheel rotation, balancing, alignment every 5K km.

OT: Great that you finally drove your car yourself. hope you are enjoying.

Exchanging tyres for Alto.

Hi All,

I am planning to buy an Alto. Was thinking of exchanging the stock tyres with tubeless tyres. The dealers quoted me 4000 for all the 5 tyres in exchange . After going through some of the threads, I saw that alloys can be purchased for 13k-15k with exchange of stock tyres.

So do you suggest to go for the change from stock to alloys right now. i.e at the time of delivery from some after market shop or stay with the stock tyres for a year and then change it to alloys?

Also if anyone can suggest me some good shops in Mumbai giving good options of Alles for Alto & WagonR(a friend of mine going for it)

Thanks.

My suggestion:

If you have budget get set of 5 Michellin XM1+ 145/80 R12(1900/- each tyre) and Alloys(2500/- each alloy). If you would like to buy Alloys later thats fine as well. Tyres can be fitted on alto steel RIMS.

You can find big differance in ride quality because stock tyres come on Alto are crap.

Ravi.

My dealer quoted me Rs. 4000 for Bridgestone tyres in exchange. Can you suggest me the tyre size and the sub brand.

What is the size of the tyres? Tyre price depends on the size of the tyre for a particular brand.
For Alto in 12inches, 145/80R12 (stock) or 155/70R12 go with 12 inches rim.
In 13 inches, preferred upsize is 155/65R13 and 165/60R13.

And none of the above sizes cost Rs4000 as you mentioned. Bridgestone Potenza GIII cost about 3K on the 165/65R13 profile. Other profiles costs lesser in any brands.

Pls do further research and post your exact requirement.

I think he means he is paying an extra of 4000 for tubeless on all 5 tyres. That would be Rs 800 a tyre.

I need suggestion whether to go for 13" or 12".
Would going just for tubeless tyres now and then after a year going for alloys make sense or taking both the tyres & the alloys at the time of delivery itself?

Would be advisable to get both together if there are no cash constraints.
